Two masters behind the wheel - Marc Lieb in the Porsche 919 #18, Benoît Tréluyer in the Audi R18 #7 - racing each other heavily during the 6 hours race in Spa-Francorchamps. Once more the Audi shows very impressive cornering abilities. Never forget these high tech hybrid cars consume half of the amount of fuel a LMP1 car used to consume some years ago, but they did not at all become slower. So much looking forward to this year's Le Mans 24h Race.
Audi's aero department are absolute hearos! I remember when they revamped the nose of the car to reduce drag and gain top speed to counteract Porsche's power, and it worked. Audi with the better car and Porsche with the better powerplant, was such a great show! 👌

Now that they have competition, it’s from a team that has almost no experience of the highest level of endurance racing, and Alpine does seem to be edging ahead here. When these German giants were here, Toyota didn’t stand a chance.
You are right about that Sam. One of his many highpoints was his driving at the 2011 Le mans for Audi. He, Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer went on to win that year.
And just to make matters even better, Audi used their low downforce setup whereas the Porsche was on the high downforce setup.(Only two setups were permitted throughout a year if I remember well)
@@Khan-ts2ji Car has very great heritage! Funny is that Dr. Ferdinand Porsche has made this foundations. Auto Union silver arrow 1938 429 km/h on autobahn. Engine designed by Ferdinand. Audi can built cars for road but they are obsessed with Quattro. BMW even didn’t stand a chance that time. Interesting what bugging their mind that they can’t build road car which on track beats BMW or Porsche
Audi is greatly missed in this highest class of endurance racing, imagine the full 2024 so far plus a new Audi hypercar. but probably unthinkable having spend all their money for their F1 future.

@@milesr4609 I can't really be happy with that erzats of a Porsche. It's just a Dallara standard chassis with a standard Bosch hybrid system in it. The only things Porsche in it are the main engine (a turbo V8 from the Cayenne series) and some styling on the front end.

No, they have very different strengths. The Audi rules the corners and the Porsche is unbeatable on the straights. It is evident at the start when the Audi can’t catch up to the Porsche in sector 3 despite having a slipstream.
@@Spyker8921 Smaller fuel tank and lower fuel flow rate for Audi (at each level of hybridization). As a result Audi has to save as much weight as possible, making it unworthy to introduce a 2nd ERS or larger batteries.
The grip on the LMP1 cars was just insane. I miss them.

These LMP1 cars looked so bulky and mean and the racing was outstanding, the hypercars are slick and trim but I miss these beautiful machines.
