  • If you, or anyone you know, has chronic pain this is an eye opening episode. Dr. David Hanscom, known worldwide for his skills as a back surgeon, is now on a higher mission. After realizing that back surgery often caused more problems than it solved, he began to search for new answers. With his book, Back in Control, he gives us a surgeon's road-map out of chronic pain without surgery.

Train yourself to just witness and experience the discomfort...

So in your comparison to white bears where you say think about white bears in the third experiment the people thought less about white bears. So when you’re in pain at a high level are you supposed to think about the pain or think about something else other than the pain?

Dear Jon, I cannot speak for Dr. Hanscom but from my own experience what I've found works is to let the pain itself guide you to the possible emotional reasons why they are so persistent. Now, this again is for chronic pain, not acute pain. Acute pain from an injury needs to be dealt with immediately and by medical professionals, but for certain pains that are chronic, the injury that originally caused them may no longer be the main issue. The main issue can stem from how you now emotionally react to the original pain. Not sure this clears up your question, and even I find the concept difficult to explain, but it's the best I can do at this time. Barry

Dear Strategic Vision: I do not mind but you cannot do it for money. If you make any money on your channel I would need to charge you. I will trust your answer, Barry
