    There's a big point here that needs to be talked about for basketball players. LEARN HOW TO FALL! I was able to dunk by 15 and I was lucky that I had a young body with the ability to heal because I wasn't able to consistently do it in high school games and not get hurt until my senior year at 17. To put it simply. . . basketball players should seriously consider gymnastics tumbling and gymnastics strength training. That's what I did and I still have knees, ankles and a fully functioning body at 42.

    Watching Edwards come down from that leap, makes me feel like Alexander-Walker with his hands in the air. As someone who used to land on his hip a bunch in my teens, can't imagine, oof. The flailing mid-air after contact really doesn't allow you to readjust and the falling on an outstretched hand but rolling to the side is something that people learn from getting a FOOSH injury lol.
    Glad it's just a bruised hip and that sucks for mobility but nothing more serious.

  • @bluntbeats314
    @bluntbeats314 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Had a few plays similar to these when I used to play ball and be a high flyer. If I'm not mistaken AE is a natural 2 ft jumper. Meaning he plants both before taking flight. I was the opposite so I was used to making contact in the air with my off hand, without looking, or taking off in a way that was designed to transfer energy into the body of the contesting defender for stability. AE jumps "through" people when he jumps off 2 feet. Jumping over a person off 1 ft feels way different because the contact sometimes pushes you higher or even causes twisting.
    At the start of the clip, it looked like AE lost the ball just after takeoff. Whether the defender tipped it or not, that action immediately broke that adrenaline filled moment causing his eyes to lock on the defender then the ground. A natural 1 ft jumper instinctively lands on 2 feet after contact since they're typically using a hammer or axe swinging motion to dunk the ball. The foot on your non propulsion leg is naturally starting to move downward through space to balance your body and help absorb that inevitable, sudden, deceleration/change in direction if contact was made, along with, floor obstacles (feet, bodies, cameras, etc). I would almost bet AE doesn't remember what he thought before takeoff or anything prior to hitting the floor.

    In the 90s, I was taught that a charge was called only if the defensive player had been standing still for three seconds before being hit by the driving player. That needs to be brought back. These days, charges are called as long as the defensive player jumps in front of the driving player just before they jump. Of course players will be injured under the current version of the rule. (I suspect the change occurred when the foolish defensive three second tech was introduced to the game.)

    Never head of a foosh, but that is exactly how I broke my arm. I had been playing street hockey and was on my way home. I came across some neighborhood kids who had built a small ramp. They were taking their bmx bikes off it and had asked me to try or challenged me...i honestly dont remember since it didnt matter. The ramp wasnt pretty steep, instead of like a 45 degree incline, it curved up pretty abruptly. No idea how they got the wood to bend like that but it was only maybe 1 foot high so it looked pretty unassuming. I hit the ramp with my rollerblades and my legs immediately went out from under me and I was basically horizontal in the air. Instinctively I put my arms out behind me. My hands hit the ground first and then my outstretched hand. And the jolt up my arm from my hands hitting tbe ground with all my weight snapped both my radius and ulna like twigs. Everyone aside from me had a good laugh, as I slowly got up and skated home.

    Charges are actually a double edge sword. Some have soften the fall because the defender becomes their anchor (leaning your hand and using the opponent to propel you further - like in Vault) or as a cushion. In others, if the angle is more on one side, the risk of falling on the other side of the person jumping that high goes up.

    NBA should figure out a way to change the block/charge rule. I dont want to see anyone intentionally taking charges. The defender should be required to make a basketball play and also given more leeway to challenge shots w/o getting called for fouls on minimal contact.
    as it is now the defensive player typically gets penalized for playing actual defense & rewarded for causing a collision/not making a play on the ball. its bad for basketball.

They shouldn't ban the charge, (I've left a too long explanation on one of Morant's failed posterization attempts), but the players need to start being smarter understanding th@ trying to dunk on someone isn't always the best option...Also, Edwards drew the 3 defenders in as he drove, so the play to make wasn't a posterization dunk, but a pass to his teammate in the weak-side corner for 3. 🤔🕵🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

    I see a lot of fans on Twitter saying they should ban the charge, citing this as an example. And to me, the issue isn't the charge, but bad judgement by some of these gifted athletes and what they try to do in game. I love athletic dunks as much as the next guy, but when the lane is that clogged, it's just insanely risky to go for a dunk attempt. From a basketball perspective, if we were to ban charges, it's going to basically make it impossible for players to guard against drive attempts because it's near impossible to stop a tall athlete who's sprinting at full speed to the rim knowing they won't get called for any offensive fouls.

    Going for it too far away from the basket with a defender in front is as risky as it can get. I mean there are a lot of highlight dunks but this attempt is ridiculous.
