  • In this video we check the speeds at various rpm levels on a 20 hp, 4 stroke Mercury Outboard Motor. This motor is paired with a SunTracker 18' DLX Bass Buggy Pontoon Boat. This boat was funded by the PA Fish & Boat Commission R3 Grant Program, Alvernia University, Alvernia Fishing Club and the Alvernia RMA Club. It will be used to take inter city kids fishing on Blue Marsh Lake.

    That's set up is sweet. I was worried about a 25 on my 16 ft StarCraft. I'm now happy. Thanks for the schooling.

    Nice pontoon boat, Scott. So nice that it will be used to give inner city kids a chance to go fishing on Blue Marsh Lake. Nice job on testing it out.

    I get that a pontoon boat is built for comfort and not speed however, the fact that they slap a 20hp motor on the new bass buggies and call it “standard” is crazy to me.

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  Před 2 měsíci

      I think it's an option because many of the state lakes have a 20 hp limit. Lake Nockamixon near me is a good example. Thanks for watching.

      It’s crazy to me too, I just hope he didn’t pay the same price as if it had a 60hp motor! It will hurt its resale big time, cause most people would not want a pontoon boat that big with that tiny little 20hp on the back, I bet that 18ft pontoon boat could easily handle a 150 horse and do around 50mph,

    It wouldn’t work well in the high elevation lakes I fish in Colorado but I am surprised that the 20hp ran as well as it did. Nice of you to do what you do.

    Curious if you are using the recommended prop or a different size. I have a 19.6’ pontoon and I can’t get my brand new 25hp over 4200 rpm’s. Even though it’s supposed to run at 6000 rpm they dealer just chocks it up to my boat being too heavy.
