    • @gamingguy233
      @gamingguy233 Před měsícem +2

      It shows that even villains don't always do the villany things and have the other side to their lives.
      But with this villain it doesn't work. Kaschey has a lazy motif that is poorly delievered: he loves his country and due to his slightly distorted ideals he performs mass murders. Basically, he is just evil. He is made to be hated. Compared to other antagonists that have desire for power (slightly less lazy motif) or are confused or happen to be on the other side or is capitalism or have desire for revenge or wisdom etc., etc. that make the reader question the "goodness" of our side like a good villain should do.
      Kaschey is just evil and has nothing more to it than that. I think he had a lot of potential to be an understandable character, but alas, what HG did is done and he has almost no more appearances in the story

    • @OoyamaAina
      @OoyamaAina Před 17 dny +2

      @@gamingguy233 I disagree with you that it doesn't work.
      Kashchey doesn't really "perform mass murders", yes he has his own personal militaristic force but he's a manipulator first and foremost and nobility with an old guard mentality. He claims to love Ursus and everything on that land because he thinks of himself as Ursus, and uses conflict as a means to bring the country back to its highest point. He is evil but he's not evil for the sake of being evil. It's the ultra-nationalist pride of thinking himself as Ursus and disdain for how low it's fallen in his eyes.
      That scene of him laughing works because of everything that's around it. It's a juxtaposition of what we know of him in the story but also what actually is in the video, it makes it feel unnerving when you see it. Most of the PV is the horrors of Terra, Originium, Catastrophes, Infected just living horrible lives etc. Yet dotted in between them are small snippets of the banquet scene. Vibrant, golden, full of colour compared to the very desaturated scenes of the Infected. It shows how the nobles' are disconnected from the everyday Infected, the quick cuts right before we see him laughing juxtapose it even more.
      Alina, whose death was an early catalyst that led to Reunion's downfall. Outcast, the circumstances that led to her death was covered up by the Victorian government. FrostNova, whose entire family was forced into labour and were all executed and almost was herself. Then the Ursus soldiers ready their weapons, hard cut to Kashchey and the aristocrats having the time of their life while everywhere else, people are suffering. Then cut to the pouring wine. It doesn't flow like how pouring drinks is usually portrayed in video or animation, it's instead almost instant. Like blood splattering on a wall or the ground. The blood of common people spilled both by the aristocrats of Terra.
      Also, you mentioned "motif" but I think the word you meant to use was "motive".

    17:55 There's no good moment in there, those are people that cause the whole suffering

      It's pretty telling how that whole scene is filled with moments that - on the surface, appear innocuous or happy - but how every one of them has an underlying tragedy beneath it: how the true extent of the suffering is only apparent to those who went through it/know the details of what happened

    im surprised you didnt comment on the frame size! most of the video is confined by the black bars at the top and bottom, but at a few points amiya pops out of it and is outside of the rest of the animation entirely, which really adds to that reflective feel. the first time she leaves the border is in the shot with misha, where she literally falls out of the frame, as she is unable to protect misha (or some other reason!). it happens a few more times over that section, then kind of stops until she summons the sword against talulah and causes the border to completely crumble away. im not smart enough to analyze any deeper meaning to it. maybe its about amiyas increased potential and strength, maybe its about rhodes island itself. but yeah, really cool detail i havent seen talked about that much. wondering if you have any thoughts on it!

    • @CatharsisYT
      @CatharsisYT  Před měsícem +14

      I actually did, but the video was also already 12x longer than the source lol
      It's a separation of context. Things with cinematic aspect ratios being removed tend to indicate growth, perspective, or time differences. In this case, likely all of them, since most of the stuff through Amiya's portion are flashbacks and world building. She breaks the borders a few times herself showcasing her disassociation from the narrative around her, only fully breaking it once she's found herself and is able to move forward in full confidence.
      But in the video that thought was like a 10 minute yapathon 💀

    I'm surprised I didn't see anyone else bring this up yet, and I did go looking to avoid being repetitive, but in the shot around 14:30 or so, I think you actually got things a bit in reverse there. That shot shows, first, young Amiya without her coat, then, the Doctor removing their own coat, and then, cuts to Amiya wearing her coat. The implication seems straightforward, the Doctor was with her for a short time, helped her when she was in dire straits, and, quite literally, passed their mantle on to her. After which she struggles to fill their place, ironically, the coat being far too big for her helps with this metaphor even more. So she has to grow and struggle until her efforts, and those of everyone she meets and who helps mould her along the way, finally let her catch up in the end. Not only that, but the shadow of what has been made ends up larger than they alone ever could have been, though that bit is far more iffy than the rest of what I've brought up.
    I don't know, just wanted to put my own opinion forth and couldn't bring myself to stop at just the mention of that shot having been the Doctor removing their coat and Amiya gaining hers.

    By the way every single character in Arknights is some kind of part human part animal. There is no racism in regard to most races, save for the Sarkaz who are very important to the main story. What race some characters belong to remain ambiguous for various unique reasons.
    However, prejudice is still an integral part as a theme of the story because of a key worldbuilding detail. Originium. It’s the mineral that basically powers society. Electricity is impossible to produce without Originium. On top of being a source of power, Originium is also the conduit in which you channel “Arts”, which is just the word Arknights uses to refer to magic. Arts are employed in all sorts of different ways. Multiple storylines revolve around how different factions and countries utilize Arts in unique ways. The aspect about Originium that drives the majority of conflicts within the story is the fact that Originium is the source of a disease called Oripathy, which people in the community simplifies by referring to it as “rock cancer”. It’s funny, and it’s also a good way to communicate what Oripathy is. Oripathy is 100% deadly, and the disease spreads easily if the corpse isn’t taken care of because the body turns into dust that travels in the air easily. Because of this, people who are “Infected” are overly ostracized because of their perception as essentially being walking time bombs.
    Essentially, the source of this world’s magic system and power is the main source of an infectious disease that breeds conflict across the world of Terra. It’s a fascinating way to build a magic system (which in Arknights is treated as a sort of half hard half soft magic system since there are technically rules and the system adheres to certain principles, but the affect that Arts can have varies widely depending on various factors)

    Alright, around a month ago, AK community was hit very hard by lore reveal in "Babel" side story. One of the lore bomb that a few years before main story, the Doctor betrayed and essentially murdered Theresa; Sarkaz king, the leader of Babel (predecessor of Rhodes Island), mother figure for Amiya, Kal'tsit's friend. Like, the players had always known that the Doctor had some roles behind Theresa's assassination, but everyone thought "nah, there must be some kind of 5D chess playing here that they plotted together" but then they hit us with "No, the Doctor did betray her. No 5D chess or something, just straight up letting assassins entered because Doctor had different goals and obligations".
    So, upper echelons of Rhodes Island which consisted of members from Babel's era was reluctant to pull out the Doctor from their cryosleep. No one's really willing to talk about it, including Amiya, that the only suspect was Doctor (and they were correct), and it brought doubts that, would the Doctor really be willing to help R.I., since whatever the reason behind it, Doctor did betray Theresa.
    In chapter 14, the Revenants, I think? They gave visions of what actually happened back then to Amiya, Kal'tsit, W, and Doctor. This confirmed their suspicions towards Doctor and Amiya confessed that she always had a pretty good idea of what happened back then, but Doctor was her father's figure. She said that there was a stark contrast between Doctor who saved her, took care of her, taught her about many things, to the Doctor who betrayed and killed Theresa. However, despite all doubts and hesistation, Amiya insisted and convinced everyone to pull out the sleeping Doctor from the shitfest Chernobog was.
    Maybe the unfocused shots of Doctor's back also highlighted how very little that young Amiya know about the Doctor. There was large dissonance between what she knew about Doctor and what happened at the end of civil war. However, she didn't have the chance to find out the truth because Doctor went into coma and had to recover in cryosleep chamber, hence there's only Doctor's back in Amiya's vision.

    Hiromatsu Shuu, since he released that OP ‘Da Wang Rao Ming’ is one of my favourite directors when it comes to intros and music videos, his colours, direction and artistic vision is hypnotic, it's interesting how he uses animation resources, how he recycles animation to present it in different ways, the effects, etc, then he appeared in the Ending 5 of Chainsaw Man which is great, but this is Arknights is the most I've liked about him for the moment, and I know nothing about the game, I don't like that style of games, besides, the downside of seeing how the game is after seeing this is funny.

    I have to talk about the image at 13:00.
    this shot is animated after a picture from a Woman who suffered in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Many people think this is disrespectful to that person and the ongoing conflict.
    Arknights has always been a game with references and viewpoints related to our world and its history. Question is, is it fine to take images and references from present conflicts and wars instead of the past?
    Its a very interesting topic in my eyes, as there has to be a line somewhere that dictates interpretations of conflicts. What and when is something allowed to be adapted, and then HOW is it done so?
    One thing that is also interesting is that Arknights is a chinese game, and yet despite that delves into topics and themes that similar games from that market would never dare to.
    Just some of my thoughts on this very interesting choice of visuals.

      I believe it depends on intent. Arknights has never shied away from painting war in a negative light, and this is one of the situations where it is used respectfully to show the horror of war. Whether it is appropriate or not to use an ongoing conflict as reference is up for debate, but at least there's no disrespect on HG's part.

      Never was into visual novels to begin with, honestly. Hell I haven't even read a full book since i was 12 (unless you count the 5 manga i keep up with) 💀. I also gave the anime a whirl but dropped it after 3 eps. It wasn't BAD, but definitely made and written for existing fans, which turned me off of it. We've discussed that in length on my discord actually.
      It's best to just be happy experiencing the media around the game in my case. Forcing myself into anything has always ended in resenting it and I really don't want to do that if i can avoid it

    There are a lot of details in this trailer that just cut deep into the feels when you know the story. I almost feel bad that you can’t appreciate the storytelling to its full potential since you haven’t play Arknights yet, WHICH YOU SHOULD, ONE OF THE BEST MOBILE GAMES ON THE MARKET PERIOD!
    The game isn’t without its flaws though. In terms of game mechanics it is one of the most enthralling and thought provoking in terms of how you approach stages with your own personal strategy. Modern Arknights storytelling is really captivating and all of the nuances regarding the incredibly varied world that Hypergryph made is objectively amazing. However, the game really doesn’t do a good job at showcasing its potential, at least in the early stages of building up your account. It makes sense because the first act is a part of the story that was released years ago, and over time Arknights has improved it’s quality of life both in terms of gameplay and story so you will see a quality disparity between different event and main campaign stories. It’ll definitely put off some people but if that doesn’t bother you you’ll be discovering one of the most rich and deep worlds ever written in human history.
    I am very passionate about this game since it’s become an important aspect of my life and the way I approach stories in other media, so I hope you’ll be able to find love for this game too besides just the music.

      He doesn't need to play to experience the story. There are web apps that allow you to read the story, which is sometimes preferred way of experiencing it. NGL VN storytelling with amount of text that could be as well a book could be tiresome.

      @@SzaraVytra in my personal opinion I think using external sites to read the story is redundant unless if you’re already playing and don’t have an event unlocked. I can understand going online for the event stories but the main story should be read in-game

      In recent side story I had to take a bit less than hour to carefully read story after and before just one stage. I don't have time in my personal life for that. There is even less time to do that when there is rerun. And every new story is getting longer and longer. In an hour I can read around 60-70
      page novel. I would seriously preferred AK story released as Light Novel instead of VN. It is not redundant, this is basically required if you don't wanna miss anything.
