I was a victim of the first DMK gov ernment in 1966 when my name was deleted from MBBS selection list. I have seen all subsequent governments till 2005. Annamalai stands out as the best political leader I have seen in the last 75 years.

This senseless argument that one nation must have one language is from MK Gandhi, as explained in his autobiography My Experiments On Truth. MK Gandhitriede but failed to learn Tamil to help his mostly Tamil legal client base in South Africa. So he started an agenda to have all learn Hindi, which continued after moving to India.
Any psychologist and sociologist will tell you that coercion (even passive) will result in irritation, not inspiration. To inspire, role-modeling is the best, so you learn other desi languages out of your comfort zone. Those who know you will think of doing the same, building bonds with other state/language Indians.
For example, Shri. Annamalai never studied Hindi but picked it up. I never studied Tamil, but picked it up. My unschooled maid picks up new languages as we move states.

being an Indian (Marathi) I have no problem if Annamalai is spoken in Tamil or Hindi or any other Indian language, only need English subtitle, i wish one day he became india's prime minister.
