See the easy, step-by-step process to re-string the Kobalt 24V battery-powered string trimmer. Pre-wound replacement string: amzn.to/3PnDSzn (paid link)
I needed to use this trimmer for the first time. First time for any trimmer, in fact. It belongs to my son, who's not in town, but my yard was looking like the little shop of horrors so I had to figure it out. Of course it had no trimmer string in it :) With your instructions though, I was able to load the string and actually use it. The string I purchased was round, not triangular, and when I heard you recommend triangular I thought heck, I messed up. But it worked just fine. Thank you! Sincerely, 69-year-old Tool-Avoidant Female.
Thank you for this video, my husband works so much and I want to help around the yard and I had never been shown how to do this! You made it so simple and easy to follow and I successfully replaced the string!
Thank you for a very informative and simple fix! Was about to go back to Lowe's but decided to give CZcams a try. Your instructions were perfect, especially battery removal first! Very much appreciated!!!
Thanks again for sharing. Had to come back here to see how it's done. I think it's good that you take out the battery. Who would want their hands anywhere near that line should the trigger be pressed by accident. 🤕
Thank you this was very simple and easy to follow. I am recently divorced so I don’t have a man around the house to do these things for me and since my brothers and father have passed I have had to learn to do all the things they did around the house for myself, so thank you for this.
Thank you! I was ready to chunk mine in the trash and start over at this point 😂 i'm going to make a store run for some more line and give it another shot now, thanks to your video. Very easy to follow!
My main problem is taking off the cap. I thought I was doing it wrong, but after watching your tape I decided I may have smaller hands and less strength to press the two buttons, but after a struggle I manage. Thanks for the instructions.
is that true? I’ve had the 24v for a year and have yet to figure out how to replace the spool and have it advance. I just assumed it was my incompetence. It may still be. But I am ready to surrender.
wtf is wrong with u dolts? it's a 3 min video! ; sit your ass down and pay exclusive attention to the screen until the end. Congrats knuckleheads, now it's super easy. SMH.
If the string isn't wound very neatly or if one layer of string "pinches" a layer of string underneath, the pinching will cause the string to be stuck and not release. This isn't uncommon. Recommend redoing it.
I am unable to find the link you mentioned for the other style head that holds the spool. If you could reply or post it that would be great. My kobalt 24 volt electric string trimmer is about one year old and Lowes only stocks the unit you demonstrated. Lowes also doesn't stock any replacement parts for my unit nor could they recommend anything or stock a universal spool or bottom parts or a source to buy them. Also, thanks for the tip regarding the three sided string only. You probably saved myself and others hours of more wasted time changing string. My unit will not cut St. Augustine runners and only slaps them silly. Also, the bump feed never worked correctly. I knew I should have bought a new gas powered unit instead.
Here's the link to the other style Kobalt head that may be what you have: czcams.com/video/zsTJFlHRh9s/video.html But this is for a 40V Kobalt so maybe not...
@@FixEverythingYourself THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THE LINK. It's really hot and humid here in FL, the less time monkey-shining with a bad weed eater head the better!. I will give it a try!. Thanks again!..
So I’ve done it, and my twine keeps coming out in the middle of weed eating and cuts the motor off….is there a solution? I’m winding it in the direction of the arrow I just don’t know what’s going on.
Hmmm. That's odd. You're losing all of the string really early after restringing? Usually that's because the string is wound the wrong way on the spool. Are you 100% sure it's being wound as I show in the video and the inner plastic piece is in the same orientation as in the video when you wind it? If so, my only other thought is to ensure you're using the right thickness string, but i doubt thats the cause. Sorry I don't have a better solution.
Question: is this trimmer supposed to have a spring for the bump head to work properly? Mine didn’t seem to come with a spring, and my past gas powered trimmers had a spring-loaded bump-action line feeder. Is this bump head supposed to work without a spring? Because my trimmer line does not feed at all, and I’m using the correct line size… super frustrated, weed wacking takes forever since I have to manually pull out line every 5 minutes… thanks for any help you can give!
Well, I haven't physically seen the spring but I can feel the bump-head feature has a spring within it, so yeah. The center black piece that would bump the ground is springy on mine, so there must be a spring inside there. If yours isn't springy, that's likely the problem.
I’m having issues with the weed eater staying running. I’ve taken the spool out to troubleshoot buy running it without the spool and the bumper and spring will fly out, I’m not sure what this may be. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks
Is the battery dying? What happens when you run it with all the parts installed but no string? Another thing to look at is whether there's grass stuck around the spool head anywhere. This could cause a lot of resistance that the battery can't overcome. So clean out any grass if there is any.
@@FixEverythingYourself Hello thank you for your quick response, I apologize I’m just seeing this! But luckily for me it was still under warranty and I was able to just switch it out. Without the string in it it would run momentarily but then the bumper piece/knob that snaps down with a spring would just fly off. I’m not sure if something was broken but I just couldn’t figure it out. And if I remember correctly without that bumper piece it would continue running.
There is a better trimmer head available: EGO AH1530 Rapid Reload head. It is a bump feed head that you don't have to take apart to reload. It can use the .095 line. I installed one on mine: czcams.com/video/SB__HWrZxrQ/video.html FYI: I agree about removing the battery.
I haven't used mine for quite a while, and I ALWAYS forget how to reload the string by the time i use it again. Many thanks for this refresher course!
Great! Thank you!

Good job figuring it out! And thanks for the comment!

That's great! Thanks for the nice note!
Thanks! The store said to just pop the replacement spool in and that doesn’t work at all! So I watched you do it manually! The thumb trick worked.
Excellent!

I think it's good that you take out the battery. Who would want their hands anywhere near that line should the trigger be pressed by accident. 🤕
Thanks. Believe it or not, some people leave comments criticizing how stupid it is to take the battery out.

Will, I'm sorry to hear you're by yourself but I'm glad this was helpful and you did it yourself. Good job!
Dude, you’re a lifesaver. Thanks so much. I was not looking forwards to doing this, but this video explained everything so simply. Thanks again!
Glad this helped! Thanks!

They can be hard sometimes. Glad this was helpful.
the cap is what gets me every time! :)
You can use a flat-head screwdriver to press in each tab and gently pry down to begin getting the cap off. From there you can pull it off by hand.
Thank youuuu!! Worked perfectly, and you let me know my husband had put on string that was too thick. Runnin' like a dream now! Thanks, again.
Awesome!
Thank you so much! I’ve been dreading to do this on my first weeder, but your instructions made it so simple to follow and restring!
Glad this was helpful!
It’s lot harder than he says. It’ll make you pull your hair out.
So how do you do it ..I have the spool. I'm so lost. ..
I upgraded to the 40v and it's night and day. Much easier for me

Very helpful information. Better than the manual. Have to replace my cord for the first time since purchasing years ago. Thanks for making this.
Thanks for the nice comment 👍
Found this video on Google, it helped me perfectly, came here to throw you a like and subscribe. Great video and thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for the nice comment and for making the effort to like and subscribe. I appreciate it!
Thanks just ran out of string and just bought another one strung already but now I know I can restring the one I took off…
Great!
Thank you so much!!! I did it! first time! I stopped and started the video and did it exactly hiw you said 🎉
Awesome! 👍👍
Outstanding, I always remove the battery too. Similar to unplugging electrical tools. Safety first ❤
Thanks! I agree!
I’m pulling my hair out now lol!! 😂
I’ve done that exactly what you’re doing I can’t get mine to release string as I’m using it. I’ve got to take it back out pull more string out

Where is the link for the "other style head" you mentioned? I don't see it "above".

That's the kind I have, wish I'd bought a DeWalt, they are easier to reload. I seen in the 40 volt Kobalt now has that easier loaded head
Yep, I agree with you

I just changed the line on mine and I took that centerpiece out. There is definitely a spring under there

Great fucking video man. Subbing now.
For some reason, I cannot press those two tabs in
Try using a large, flathead screwdriver to press them in. Aim the screwdriver slightly downward while pressing in.
And you can press them in one at a time with the screwdriver.

Doesnt even show how to takw cap off. Bain of my existence 😡
What do you mean? It's the first thing I do in the video?
Literally. Push in the two tabs and it pops right off. Or, you know, maybe read the owner's manual?😂
Most worthless piece of junk I ever bought.
These weed eaters are junk, buy a gas one and save yourself the trouble and money
My yard is tiny. Gas would be a waste but a bit to big to do by hand. This is a perfect light duty weed wacker for someone like me.
This is such a terrible design on this.
