    When the water is high like that is some of the best trout conditions. The fish move into more predictable locations like the one you are fishing, and the increased flow gives them cover to feed and increases the presence of food sources in the water. Most of those fish are stocked rainbow trout. You can tell by their muted coloration, uneven fins, and pug noses. The fish at 14:50 looks more like a wild rainbow trout to me, due to its clean fins, brighter colors, and par marking along the body. Great catches!

      @@aronbennett1914 wild rainbow means a fish that was born in the river (not from a hatchery). Rainbow trout are not native to this region, but can be wild. Brook trout are another species and are native to the region. Brook trout can also be wild or hatchery stocked. Stocked trout tend to have a poor appearance as compared to wild trout, although they are still colorful and lively. This is true of all trout species. In rare cases, such as a natural pond hatchery without a concrete bottom or when hatchery trout are fed natural food sources (not pellets), hatchery trout can very closely resemble wild trout. I hope this helps!

    As someone new to fishing I love your channel. Was cool to see you get out of FL into a different fishing situation and have success. Very cool. I noticed your comment on how slippery the trout are. I’ve recently learned that it is a protective layer and if handled with dry hands or gloves it ruins that layer. I was told to always wet your hands before handling a trout.

      Thankfully though, we have a few places pretty close to where I live in TWRA's Region 3 for at least decent Trout fishing opportunities, including a few areas that get stocked all winter long that I plan to take full advantage of.

    Hi Brant, although I am not from TN and even not from the US i can fairly say that all but the 2 last fishes are stock fishes. You can see it from their tails and fins which did not develop as native ones would. Stock fish because of being stacked in massive quantity in very little space and having little to no need to swin any current will have limited tail and fins growth and in some instances weird developments.
    It is pretty noticeable on the penultimate fish the perfect tail and pectoral/dorsal fins as well as great dots and color making me think it is native. hope this helps!

    • @drkrm
      @drkrm Před 5 měsíci +5

      Fxotw8478 Is correct about the fins on stockers. The last two were probably “hold overs” stocked last year. The colors on native trout are going to be much more brilliant. Just about any trout you catch in a larger stream or river will be stocked. You have to get way up the little feeder creeks to find any natives.
      You did great. Much better than most people that fish downtown. They’re much harder to catch in clear water. If you can see them, they can see you.

    I’ll take those conditions over low and clear every day of the week. Those are almost ideal conditions for a small stream/creek. But what would I know? I’m just a steelhead guide of 25 years on the tributaries of Lake Erie

    A lot of times you can look at the front fins if one side is wore down it's stocked because they swim around in a circle I'm the concrete tanks and it wears one side front fin down depending on which way they swim circling left or right

    Brent, I was just in Gatlinburg 2 weeks ago. I saw that same stream you were fishing in. I saw how clean the water looked and wondered if there was any fish in there. I had no idea that you could catch trout in a city stream. Crazy.

      I was just going to suggest fishing Cherokee. I grew up fishing the Oconaluftee behind all the gift shops. Killer fishing and then there’s the area that’s guided trips only that has giant browns and rainbows.

    Rainbow trout are the most common hatchery fish as they are the most “hearty” and can more easily thrive in hatchery conditions. That’s not to say you can’t have a naturally reproducing rainbow population in a given place. Just guessing they are stocked. Great video!

    Brandt you need to try fishing for trout at Wolf Creek Dam on lake Cumberland in Kentucky That where the state hatchery is. They have some big rainbows,brown trout and brook trout. Located just outside of Jamestown . State park and lounge about 5 miles from dam.

      Jamestown that is close to Fentress County TN and is past Cumberland County TN?
      I was up that way several years ago on a day trip with a client for the company I worked for back then, and I would have seriously looked into that place you memtioned if I had known I was so close to such good fishing if where I am thinking you are talking about turns out to be the same place I went to.
