  • After a long drive and beautiful hike I was rewarded with hours of AMAZING fly fishing for WILD brook and brown trout on this remote wild trout stream in Lycoming County, PA. It was one of the most beautiful streams I have explored and full of eager and feisty wild trout. A day I won't forget!

    PA streams with old logging railroad lines in the valley are usually the biggest and best wild trout waters to explore. I see you found one. Thanks for sharing.

    Take a good look at the maps. The bottom half (you fished the upper half) of that “roadless” stretch is even better, and has legal access from the bottom end. It’s an odd stream. The exposed/farming headwaters actually make it so the stream cools as it enters the forest and goes downstream. You did well for the low/clear water. Those Browns are usually ghosts in those conditions. And if it makes you feel better, I’ve never caught a fish in that hole you started at. Probably means there’s a Pool Boss Brown in there at all times.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  Před rokem +1

      I was sure some would recognize this creek lol. I read that there was access on the lower half but it was a bit more of a drive so I took the sure bet and hiked in a bit. Yeah I was surprised I got blanked on that first hole but I bet you are right, a big boy prolly owns it.... What a cool place!

    Thanks for a great video! Total newbie to trout in streams ( fly fished saltwater in Fla. all my life ) thanks to a vacation trip in N.C.I did a guided trip on a small stream just like where you fished and totally fell in love with it! 18 native browns and rainbows that day, biggest rainbow at 14”. Such a blast! Love your videography and the shots and fish were awesome. Subscribed!

    You were just out of shouting distance from me when you fished there. I thought I recognized the stream but I haven't been on the upper walk-in stretch in quite a while since I fish it further downstream. It holds wild browns all the way down in the lower reaches. When I saw this I confirmed with my partner in The Ranting Angler, John Kolb. He knows that upper section very well. I always look forward to your videos; however, I prefer the larger fish.🙂

      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  Před rokem

      Thanks so much Dave! I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I figured some folks who have fished this stream would recognize especially with my description of the walk-in on the upper section. I considered checking out the lower stretch but it was a longer drive and I wasn't exactly sure of access. What a special creek this was, such a beautiful area and nice mix of browns and brookies. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    You really ought to try a fiberglass rod on those small brook trout streams especially. I think you’d enjoy it a lot.

      @@deaddriftoutdoors2940 biggest advantage is that it allows a wider range of casts and will still roll the leader out nice and soft. For instance, the bow n arrow cast-with a graphite rod, you pinch the fly in your fingers, draw back and cast. With a glass rod, you can pinch the leader about halfway up the leader between your fingers and cast from a little further back, and still get the leader to turn over nice and soft. Glass rods tend to better protect hook sets-I don’t miss as many fish with one.

      It seems to depend somewhat on if they were briefly hooked or felt the tug of the line, if they just miss they are often eager to hit again. Otherwise I will often wait like 5-10 minutes, changes flies and try again. Or they will eat the nymph...
