In this clip, Chuck D talked about being unaware of Flavor Flav's drug use and said Flav did a good job at disguising his addiction. Chuck D couldn't corroborate Flav's story told on VladTV that extras for the video of "Night of the Living Baseheads" were given drugs to make it look more authentic. He also refuted the idea that the song was written about Flav as he suggested. - Zábava

I truly believe that night of the living base heads saved my life. I knew nothing about crack. I was a wild kid and probably would've tried it if I didn't hear that and monster crack from Kool Moe Dee. They broke it down and showed the negative affects of it. The creator put them in a position to save lives.
I remember hearing about crack in the 80's in London. When crack hit London I was pre warned due to tracks like this and others
There is a such thing as a functioning addict. Whether it's a drug or it's alcohol, some people act more outta sorts when they're sober than when they're high/drunk. It's not hard for me to believe at all Chuck never noticed when Flav was high. I know several people that can't hardly function unless they smoke a blunt or drink a half pint when they wake up.
When I've dealt with opiate addiction i.e. pain pills, heroin and fentanyl. If I didnt use I would look and act like a typical junkie portrayed in movies and tv shows and I wouldn't be able to act and function normal until I used. The withdrawals and being dope sick will have you sweating, fidgeting, shaking and looking like a crackhead, fiendish junkie. Then I would get high and look and act normal and be able to function on a level that is normal peoples normal state of being. But when that's the case, that's when you're physically dependent on the drug and in active addiction. Opiates make you look like a crackhead when you're not high, crack has you looking like a crackhead when you are high and meth will have you looking like a crackhead when you're high and when you're not too lmao meth will turn you into a schizo, crazy, creep. I dont like being around tweakers at all

While Ed Lover is explaining this, the video cuts to footage of Chuck D picking up the crack vile. My only question for Chuck D is why he protected Flav back then when he was defiling what the group should for, but Chuck chose to cut Griff from the group when he expressed his voice on a subject matter that reflected the group's ideals.
