      Another case of "they" just being more reduction of grammar in English, that already struggles to make anything clear. "They got tired of" doesn't mean anybody, it's just obfuscating "oh, SOMEBODY involved didn't bother with it".
      It's honestly funny how the "neutral" pronoun is literally "omg did you hear what they are saying now!" because some people ACTUALLY identify as gossip, rather than identify what their gender is. Social anxiety runs so deep they can't handle it, like calling you "she" or "he" is tantamount to being filmed or doxed.

    For anyone wondering, a port is a small receptacle that is connected to a catheter thats permanently installed to the patients vascular system.
    The port has a special membrane that can only be accessed through needles and it seals itself once the needle is taken out.
    This is done for patients that need recurrent IV medication as the vessles need time to recover and can retract if the same zone is used over and over. Eventually the patient might run out of available vessels to use, forcing those vessels might cause them to collapse and increases the risk of infection.
    The septum sits underneath the skin as a layer of protection.

    I have permanent genetic health issues that occasionally require me to get IV medication, especially IV potasium, on occasion. It's not often enough to require a port, but I have thought about it. Potassium IVs blow out the veins really quickly and hurt like hell, so I usually end up having to switch arms and/or legs for the IVs because the veins burn out and collapse. Potassium (k) is a caustic and highly reactive element, especially in its pure form, but it's necessary as an electrolyte, allowing your muscles to contract and relax. Thank god this only happens once every few years (going on a decade now, knock on wood).

    • @michaeld8980
      @michaeld8980 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Make sure the nurse taking care of you Y lines the potassium to an additional saline bag set up as a primary and dilutes it to a level that is not painful. I have seen nurses that do not know, and they just give the potassium straight and it literally eats up the veins as i'm sure you already know.

    • @Scudboy17
      @Scudboy17 Před 23 dny

      @bryanmartinez2515 it's genetic. Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis is the actual name. Diet has very little to do with it, but carb loading combined with strenuous exercise can trigger an episode. The doctors referred to it as "the bagel test." Eat a couple of bagels, then run in a treadmill and see if it triggers a paralytic episode. It has to do with the way the body processes carbs into fat and sugars while the demand for but goes up while exercising. It's a lot more technical than that as it has to do with permeability of the muscle cell membrane and how the cell recognizes electrolyte triggers when contracting and relaxing, but thats close enough.

    Modern implants made of titanium dont set off metal detectors now. Weird, because I have been on several international flights and my heart valve has never set off anything. But yeah, those titanium implants have serial numbers and the card lets surgeons and specialists know what parts to order should they need to be replaces. Those PICC lines are terrifying in that nurses need to be careful when giving meds and flushes. The ports are much safer because they're under the skin which is the first line of defense against infections. And yes, those ports can be tricky. Imagine a coin-sized bump that can shift around under your skin, and you have to hit it dead center to access it.

    Can't believe mouse has hdmi support, as expected from our metallic rodent 👏👏👏
    ...nah but seriously mad respect for mouse its really incredibly admirable, the amount of work she is blessing us with dispite having to go through really rough living conditions daily...like she experiences events that the average human can only think of as a really bad time in his life regularly, like just thinking about it having a port stuck to your heart all the time which occasionally can just wear out and cause an internal bleeding, like i'm already plenty uncomfortable just having a needle stuck in my arm vein when blodd is being drawn, and that must be pretty much the endboss of that fear... no matter how many times we are remembered of her circumstance still most of us will never be fully aware to the extent this goes to, and being able to consistantly get shit done in that constant condition...she told about her experiences of never being treated as a normal human being but honestly, i don't think she is...being able to have this kind of willpower of not giving up and getting yourself to do stuff everyday that isnt anything you cant take for granted, her being to do that in her condition...nah man she is definetly not normal she is MORE than that, probably more of a human than most of us, and i can't give her enough credit for that...mouse if you by any slight chance were to read this, you're amazing, we're proud of you! If you kept reading to this point i also want to encourage you to take that aspect of mouse as a role model, we all fight with our different kinds of problems in life some very different than others but in the end still being able to keep going when these problem hit the hardest, thats real strenght!

    idk if someone else had said it before, but the "heart port" she's talking about is called a Central Venous Catheter. it is (like she says) a line that makes possible the transfer of liquid medicine from the outside straight into the superior vena cavae that's just under the right collarbone. the "port" can actually be placed on different parts of your body along that vein, like on your wrist, on the inside of your elbow, on your chest like her, or on your neck. I'm not an expert, just did some googling, so i apologize if i got anything wrong.
    anyways, that being said, A thousand blessings toward the Omnisaiah for His unending grace and kindness to being the sustaining life force for our favorite idol.
    Edit: the artery thing she said i have no idea. i could only find stuffa about cancer and how through-the-artery medication (since it's not going into your heart) isn't really made to have/keep you healthy, moreso to attack the tumor (like i said), since that's what they leech off of for survival.

    Yeah, it's true about ports for chemo. My mom had one for a long time, right on her chest like Mouse describes. I also live w/my nephew who has a g-tube (feeding tube going directly to your stomach through a hole close to the belly button), and we have absolutely forgotten to close that little white clamp on a tube during a feed and ended up w/his feeds/belly liquids getting all over. He used to have an ng-tube (tube going through nose to stomach) but those are not meant for constant long-term use and were literally disintegrating on us. He has an undiagnosed medical condition and takes all food by tube. So the g-tube is way better. It's more comfortable, it's more convenient, and we switch out the little connection bit about once a month, which is decent. It's not as fancy as a port. No titanium. Just plastic I think. And his stuff's all covered by insurance. Even his fancy blended food packets. Only 4yo in our area eating pureed salmon and quinoa and all the healthy shit. His nutrition team is dead-set on like perfectly balancing his diet. Meanwhile my niece is refusing to eat anything except vanilla yogurt, chocolate cereal, pancakes, and candy. It's also way easier to just give him medicine through the tube when he gets sick. My sister has to trick my niece by mixing it into her food and she figures it out like 70% of the time and refuses it. Don't know if my nephew will ever be able to eat or talk, but he's a really happy kid and the g-tube can allow him to get all the nutrition he needs. It's still scary because they don't really know what he has, and what to expect. Right now all they can say is that his pituitary gland produces basically no insulin-like growth hormones (which is also why he's so itty bitty), so he needs growth hormone shots just to "support daily functions" aka live. His team had to fight insurance to get us the once-weekly over the daily shot. Giving a 4yo a shot is not easy, so only having to do it once a week is a lifesaver. It helps that we bribe him with hot-wheels every time since he loves cars. Hope Mouse has something to help her through the tough moments.

The bandage changes and the alcohol swab around the line hole sucked. And sometimes they couldn't get blood from the PICC line and would have to poke me repeatedly in the nurses office of my school (my nurse would come out to do that and bandage changes) because the antibiotics I was on made my blood clot easily. For the last stretch they put me on blood thinners though so it was less of an issue. I always feared it getting ripped out lol, but the more you wear it the less you worry. I can't imagine getting multiple put in or having them for extensive periods of time like that. I also can't imagine what them getting infected feels like- that has to be miserable

    I remember when I used to have a port for chemotherapy. I would go in for a full of a week in the hospital and then the following week I would go in for 3 days of outpatient chemo, I had to put on this cream about 2-3 ahead of time that would numb the chest area so it wouldn't hurt when they accessed it. Luckily after a total limb salvage knee replacement, some titanium rods, some plastic spacers and bumpers, and some concrete I've been cancer free for 5 years. After I got the all clear they went in and removed my Medi-port and I even got to keep it, and if you look closely you can see all the little puncture holes from the needles in the yellow membrane of the port.

    Exactly right on the chemo, my dad had one for that. If I remember right he also had to flush it with saline when he was betweem chemo runs and not using it regularily.
