    Hi there! REALLY THOROUGH new pen video!! I love hearing how this one is different from the 823- a pen I recently purchased. I am no regretting my purchase, although at first I thought Maybe the vac filler wasn't something I really wanted. I have a Vac filling twsbi and hardly ever fill it with ink. Also I just want to say, I really really love your channel and watch consistently on my TV and get too lazy to comment since I have to log onto my computer to do so. Just know, I am here. :)

    That burgundy color is stunning. I was contemplating getting a custom 74 from japan in this colorway but my friend told me it reminded him of lawyers in a bad way and it made me think of getting the black instead 😅. I don't have a basic black pen really anyways, all of my cheaper pens are colorful or are demonstrators and all of my mote fancy expensive pens are also colorful, so I think it's not a bad idea to have a classic black and gold pen in yoir collection. I still love this color tho so maybe I'll grab that one again in another nib size someday in that color. I think it would look lovely with Wearingeul Metamorphosis, Diamine Writer's Blood, Diamine Oxblood, Colorverse Dirty Red or Robert Oster Blood Moon just off the top of my head. Lovely pen, lovely and informative review. I love watching your unboxings, my bank account however does not lol, I always end up with another pen on my wishlist somehow.

    Unboxing videos are always so much fun! The burgundy color of that pen looks so rich. If that was my pen I think I would have reached for my bottle of Diamine Writer's Blood ink right away. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the video, I have watched some videos about 823 and I was worried about it cracking and the maintenance so when I heard there is the exact same pen just different filling system I have been researching about this pen more. And I do like to change my pen just in case of flow issues so this would make my life way easier.

    Excellent review. I have not enjoyed pilot fine gold nibs out of the box for the upstroke issue. On the other hand their medium nibs are some of the finest in the business. Had the fines reground on now they are wow.

  • @michellek649

    Just got one and agree on the nib. I think I would choose the 823 over this one for those who can only get one.

  • @anitasamuel-george5788

    Thank you! I have been eyeing the 743 for a long time! Very few reviews! I’m deciding between the FA and M (or even FM). I’m not ready to splurge that much on one pen….but time will tell! 😅
    I have the Pilot CH 91 with a fine nib (#5) and it has the same issue with the stroke. I don’t really like it much. I love the VP nib like you do. So this is part of why I’m hesitant on getting the Pilot 743. Being available in N.A. now helps a lot though…and hopefully more reviews!

    Thanks for the video. I am thinking of getting a Pilot fountain pen so am grateful for your thoughts on this one. It's interesting that you were expecting the nib to be as 'bouncy' as the one on your Pilot Vanishing Point. The bounciest nib I have is on my Lamy dialog cc which is also a 'vanishing point/capless' pen. Maybe it has to do, as you suggest, with the construction of the thinner nibs for such pens.

    I have the 823 with a fine nib, also have the VP fine - they are two completely different animals. VP much softer feeling, but I LOVE the way the 823 writes. I prefer the larger #15 nib. I also have the 742, another stiff one, with a #10 nib…and am now thinking of getting the 743 in a medium. I’d get another 823, but that vac system is a pain in the butt. Thanks for a good review

      I ordered a medium fine 723, was sent a 743 with an FA nib by mistake. Was going to send it back, but I decided to keep it. It’s the same size 15 - but is considered a flex nib. Not too much flex, you really need to push it. It’s much softer than the standard 15 nibs. So, now I need to order again the medium fine…but I like the FA, and you probably would as well.

    Thanks for the review. I already have a few vac fillers, so I'm very tempted to get the 743 (instead of the 823). I just wish the nib was available, which would be perfect. I just got my first gold nib ever (Elite 95s ), also through amazon, the exchange rate makes these pens much more affordable. Atlas etc sell it for $144, I got it for $70, just too much of a difference to not go with amazon. Same applies to this pen too at the momenty.
    Any updates on the pen after 5 months?
    Also curious how much you spent for it.

    • @KarynaLovesToPlan

    • @levon9
      @levon9 Před 8 měsíci

      @@KarynaLovesToPlan Thanks, yes, if the pen just doesn't feel right, then there's little reason to hold on to it, esp at that price. I think I've seen them for around $160'ish now. The nib on the Elite is incredibly smooth and seems to have a bit of bounce, but with a big nib like on the 743 I'd worry about it laying down too much ink and limiting what paper I could write on.

    This pen is on my wish list but I’m waiting for it to be released in white/cream or olive green.

    I love Pilot nibs and am glad you came around to enjoying it. I agree that gold nibs are not necessarily superior to steel nibs, and I agree that one can have a great writing experience with a steel nib. That being said, I'd take a Pilot nib over a Jowo nib any day -- even a steel Pilot nib. Pilot converters leave a lot to be desired, but their nibs are marvelous, even on the budget models IMO. I got the US exclusive 743 in Verdigris and like it a lot. Yes, it comes with the inflated US prices, but for those who care about such things, it comes in a nice gift box with a huge bottle of Pilot Blue ink. And the FA nib option, of course.

    • @KarynaLovesToPlan
      @KarynaLovesToPlan  Před rokem +2

      Thank you! I am appreciating this pen for what it is and trying not to compare it to the VP. But I would love to try a soft fine!

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 Před rokem +1

      The Veridgris look very cool. I don't like the name though. If it is a reference to 'verde', I mean they could have called the pen green in whatever the word is in Japanese. or since it's a US exclusive, call it "Liberty' kinda matches the color of the statue.
      I would personally take any nib over Jowo now.

    • @marilyngardner4269
      @marilyngardner4269 Před rokem +3

      @@KarynaLovesToPlan You might want to try an FA nib sometime too. I have two and only rarely use them for actual flex writing. They're great for everyday writing and add a little bounce or give. Hard to describe, but it does soften the feel a little.

    • @marilyngardner4269
      @marilyngardner4269 Před rokem +2

      @@ironmic9244 I wouldn't call the color of the pen Verdigris either, but I'm struggling to name the color accurately. It's an unusual color that looks green in some lighting and teal in other lighting. I wouldn't say it's the color of the Statue of Liberty at all. I like the color, but can't pinpoint it.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 Před rokem +1

      @@marilyngardner4269 You wouldn't be the only one. Many have commented on how they figure out the color. I guess I would have to see it, because the photos don't seem to capture the pen accurately. I just figured because it's a US exclusive, and it looked green, I figured Liberty would work :)

      I have a SFM on the Custom 74. It is really nice from what I remember. Funny, I've been thinking about it for the past couple of days, and will be inking it up this week. I just haven't decided what ink to put in it, so that has been what has held me off. Oh the decisions, decisions. Who would have thought picking an ink for a pen would give this much grief?
      Anyways, it's smooth, is on the fine side with a feather touch, but with normal writing is closer to a fine than a medium, but still in between the two. But then again it is a Japanese nib, so it is as expected. It does open up to a broad, but again not a flex, but it sure does give a nice writing experience and allows for that added 'cushion' that I like with gold nibs.

    Lovely pen. I think that the finial cap is smaller on the 743. I like the finial cap on the 823 better, but I think I prefer a converter instead of the vacuum system!!! Undecissed.
