  • I am a new grad physical therapist treating and practicing for the first time... without supervision.
    This comes with a lot of freedom and benefits, but also the discipline to self-evaluate. Watch the video to see my experience with a patient that had a clean evaluation, treatment, and discharge.

      Diego Torres Hell yeah bro! Working as a PT now, was exactly what I envisioned for myself when I was going through school when I was in your shoes. Even when it almost seems unrelated like chemistry, I continue to tell myself that all of this is worth it because I will be impacting so many people as a physical therapist. And later when you do become a physical therapist, you want to be proud of the work and the journey that you’ve worked so hard for. I BELIEVE IN YOU

    for me one of the best ways to get inspired is through a collaboration with other people bouncing off ideas from one person to another, usually physios typically work by themselves in a room setting can you make a video talking about what are ways not only to keep on learning the stuff you need to know but to emotionally grow as a person as well?

    Hi I just got admitted into USC for Human Bio and hope to be a physical therapist is there any advice you have for soon to be undergraduate, and if my major is goo for a focus in PT and how the work was managed for such a tough major? Also did u do school in Hawaii for both under and grad bc I really wanna do school there as well, and how was your experience there

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  Před 2 lety

      Congrats Feben on your acceptance!! USC is not an easy school to get admitted into. You should be super proud of yourself. The major is good because a lot of the classes you will take in your major will also fulfill a lot of the prerequisites for PT school. I personally recommend students to major in some thing like exercise science or kinesiology, but your major is good as well! Since your major is going to be super heavily involved with sciences, it will be a much tougher major compared to exercise science. I went to school for undergrad and grad school in California. I believe Hawaii is going to start their first PT program next year. By the time you are ready to apply, Hawaii Pacific University should have a PT program available.
      Without writing a novel on this comment, I specifically created an online course for students like yourself to help them learn everything they need to know to get accepted into physical therapy school. Many students who have taken this course found it helpful and if you realized the secret tips and strategies that I share to get them admitted into a PT program. I think this course will absolutely help answer a lot of your questions and will set you up to be successful when you are ready to apply to grad school.

    hey man! i absolutely love your videos but ive been wondering, how were you able to handle a marriage while doing PT school at the same time? Most of the people i talk to have a negative outlook on being in a relationship or getting married before fully graduating :/

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  Před 2 lety +3

      Hey for sorry the late response… but as far as a marriage while PT…. DO IT! I think it really just depends on what your prioritize and what you can handle. Everyone is different, but getting married during PT was great! However…. I would get married right after PT school or at least when things settle down. That way you’re not stressing over it

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  Před 3 lety +2

      Typically if you pursue a PhD, you are primarily working in research and as a professor. However if you pursue a clinical doctorate in physical therapy, you are working in the clinic as a physical therapist. Hope that helps!!

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  Před 3 lety

      You would have to contact APTA to see what your degree is eligible for. Your masters degree might transfer and be equivalent to a doctorate degree but it really depends. The US is very particular about this

      You are lucky to have loving parents! It depends how much you have done. If you do not have any work done towards your application, it may take you several years. If you already have a bachelors, I would say about 4-5 years from there. If you do not have any degree, you’re probably looking at round 8-9 years

      @@SamBWinning I'm 27 soon to be 28 and just got accepted into a DPT program. I feel the same way as I am also living at home (which everyone I've ever told that too is jealous and has always wished they were still living at home, so don't feel bad about that!) I believe a majority of the programs are 3 years long. If you have your bachelor's in Kinesiology or some relevant degree then chances are a high majority of your courses are relevant to entering a DPT program. So that would require less time for you.
      If you haven't done much in the exercise science field, then I would strongly recommend asking yourself if you have a strong passion for working with patients and love communicating in an empathetic manner with patients. Also, if you don't mind biting the bullet on some super challenging courses... mine were exercise physiology and biomechanics as I struggled with physics. Also making sure that you have tons of experience within the field helps tremendously. There are lots of steps to get there, but in the long term, it is completely worth it as you'd now be an instrument doing God's work healing people. That's something a business degree could never buy. Hope any of this information has helped or influenced you in a certain direction! :)
