"Dream is a shadow of something real." Chris Lee (David Gulpilil) Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Peter Weir (Oscar® nominated director of Picnic at Hanging Rock, Gallipoli and Witness) explores a startling world on the brink of apocalypse in The Last Wave, a time and place where Mother Nature and human nature are destined to collide in catastrophic disaster.
When lawyer David Burton (Richard Chamberlain, The Thorn Birds) is assigned a case to defend a group of indigenous Australian men, he is unprepared for the nightmares and dreamscapes ahead. Accused of murdering one of their own, the men stand trial amidst suspicious circumstances and, as Burton becomes plagued by unsettling visions, he is drawn to the mysterious Chris Lee (AFI Award winner David Gulpilil, Storm Boy, The Tracker) for answers to his torment. As the erratic climate turns dangerous, Burton senses a greater power at play, where tribal customs and the ancient ideas of Dreamtime may be more than just an ominous warning.
Featuring atmospheric cinematography by Oscar® winner Russell Boyd (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), The Last Wave is a haunting journey into the depths of the unknown, where dreams and nightmares conspire as one. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Such an amazing movie. I saw it when it came out, and several times since. Time to see it again.
I have not seen it before. It is playing on Australian SBS TV this evening so I will watch it for the first time.
Just want to say to the guys at Umbrella. Thanks for being legends and thanks for keeping Australian film alive. If it weren't for guys like you and Madman I wouldn't be able to get ANY aussie classic films. Keep up the good work guys!
Love the Haunting Arp Solina string synthesizer soundtrack. Great Aussie film to.
At age 20. First Aussie film I saw on US cable TV circa 1980 on Cinemax. This was before movies at the cinema: Gallopolli and Mad Max: Road Warrior. This movie was difficult to understand. Then difficult to forget. Thank you for sharing.

My favourite film of all time
Met the screenwriter of this superb film quite by accident at the Katoomba railway station whilst waiting to board the 0757 city rail train to Sydney.
Still ranks as one of my favorite movies of all time .
We haven't had all time yet, but I get what you mean.
My Uncle knew Gulpilil as a friend, he always said he was a kind hearted man.

This is a truly remarkable film. Saw it in Montreal on it initial release. Amazon Prime now streams it for about $5.
out of curiosity, where did you watch it in Montreal?
Wow what a OG trailer
still gives me the creeps, even now
My favorite movie undoubtedly. Besides the remarkable performances, is the unbelievable weaving of the unconscious symbolism and metaphors of a disturbed and powerful natural world and the honest manifestations of the Aboriginal Culture which was invaded by the Western mind with all is logic and the devotion to a set of laws and economic practices which have nothing in common with with the Primal cultures within which the Aborigines lived and dreamed. Authentic.
Strange interesting film.
Beautiful character!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Great film. I especially like the ending. The parts in the caves were very hard to see on DVDs I've watched I rented it two times. I saw it when it originally came out.
