Interestingly enough...the company that made this (Toaplan), went out of business in the early 90's. But a bunch of former Toaplan employees formed CAVE which is still around today (they make infamously hard danmaku shooters like Mushihimesama).
Agreed the real went all out for the cut scenes it's like 16 bit anime if only modern companies would be so creative rather then making the tech do the heavy lifting all the time.
It's no Thunderforce 3 in terms of excitement and action, but the love and care that obviously went into the game almost makes up for its (hilarious and brilliant, in a way) intro.
I was stuck forever on the damn bosses on the "Legrous" stage - I eventually ended up pausing the game a lot during those battles, just to create a kind of fake slow-motion. But then again, I did play the game for the first time back then, and also played on Hard, lol.
The YM2612 FM chip in the Genesis/Mega Drive is much more capable than the YM3812 used on the original Toaplan System 1. And as with a lot of other Genesis/Mega Drive games they actually used FM for some of the sound effects.

Да, последние раунды тут жестокие, особенно момент когда сзади вылетают три крупных врага (39:00). Я его немного по-другому прохожу, но все-равно не так уж часто удается там выжить. Еще минибосс на 6-м этапе меня периодически выносит.
О, сам подумывал о том, чтобы записать прохождение.))) Классно получилось. На последнем боссе не страшно было? Там ракеты очень легко зацепить могут. *По-моему, самая безопасная тактика против него - зависнуть почти вплотную и использовать лазер вместо самонаводящихся пуль.

Что значит "не очень хорошо играю"?))) Суметь пройти Toaplan'овский шутер в одну жизнь, притом не на дефолтной сложности - это уже очень высокий уровень. Скромность - дело, конечно, полезное, но и перебарщивать не надо.))) А вот если прохождения еще будешь писать - посмотрю с удовольствием.)

There is something really visually pleasing about the artstyle. I can't point out what exactly, but it's just really well done.
Reminds me of R-Type on the Master System.
