- So is the Nikon D50 still worth your money in 2023? I think so! In this video, we'll discuss all of the pros and cons of the Nikon D50 and let you decide for yourself whether it's the right camera for you.
Yes it is :-). Bought last year one with three lenses, because I wanted the lenses for my D3000. On the D3000 I can only focus manual with this lenses. Than I tried the D50 and she works great.

I bought my Nikon D-50 new in 2006 for $550 including kit 18-70 zoom so your $1000 original price is a bit high. It was my 1st digital camera after 25 years shooting film and I found I didn't like digital so the D-50 went into a drawer.
14 years later, I decided to try photography again and bought a new Sony A6000 set-up. After a few years, on a whim I dusted off the D-50. The battery was still good and it fired right-up. After a day of shooting I was shocked at how well it's 6.5 mp images stacked-up against the 24mp Sony's images. Colors just seem to "Pop" and exposure always seeming spot on. Now the Sony sits on the shelf far more than the old D-50
I 100% agree with your assessment. The D50 is a wonderful camera to start with. I played $35 for one to mess around with. Now I have it doing lots of stuff.👍
I've had mine since 2006. Love it. It's only been in the repair shop twice. Now that used ones are going for a song, I'm buying two more, so I don't have to switch lenses in the middle of busy shoots. Did two successful wedding shoots and bunch of others.

BTW, a useful D50 hack. The D50 only takes up to 1GB SD (Non-HC) memory cards which can be hard to find. I found that you can also use a 2GB SD card if you format the card in a windows computer (FAT-32) instead of in the camera. I even found a Panasonic 4GB SD memory card that works in the D50 formatted this way. Several other brands of 4GB cards would not work.
How do I format in the computer?
@@FoamyDragon You need either a memory card slot in your Windows computer or a USB card reader. Connect USB to computer--Click on "This PC" Right click the drive for the memory card and click "format", select FAT32, Change allocation size to "default"

I’m looking to shoot photos for the sports teams at my university, but the macro lens that my mom already have doesn’t zoom in as much as I want it to… do you have any recommendations for additional lenses I could buy for a fair price? Hi! Off the top of my head it could be worth looking for either the 70-300 with Vibration Reduction or the 55-200 with vibration reduction. I think those are fairly inexpensive. I’m fairly certain there are multipliers you can attach to the lenses to zoom in even more, but it cuts down on available light.

@@parisisabella1261 hmm I’d say probably keh. Maybe adorama is they’re selling it. I would say MPB but I’ve actually had some mixed results so I hesitate to recommend them. If you’re extra careful you could try eBay or Facebook or Craigslist but those are a bit risky.
My favorite place to buy used gear is local camera shops. They often have people working their inspect it beforehand.

If D50 was released in 2005 it would be 18 years old not 12 years!
