    I've 9 of them! I buy the worst of the bunch, all but 1 have come up to scratch after a good internal and external clean. My favorite though is the D70(s) - especially if shooting high iso and 'developing' in black/white - for real pocket money prices.

      @@robbellphoto Ha no - I know them all by name and their idiosyncrasies. One needs a few clicks to get going, one has dodgy thumbwheels, one has a duff button, one needs tape to keep battery in - you get the idea. I love them all the more for it. I match each to a lens and set it up accordingly.. As an aside, if someone were to ask me what to get used for a few hundred - I'd suggest getting all of D70. D700, D7000. You then have all the bases covered - CCD, full frame, low(ish) light, video, holiday snaps, serious shoots, all with the same lens collection

I have point-and-shoot Fuji F70exr with SuperCCD 5mp which is very good for a small sensor. Very little sharpening is done by the camera as the expectation was to do it better on the computer because of processor power and cost at the time.

      Great! it's a shame Fuji had to abandon SuperCCD development. Cost, specs, and slower development could not compete with the sales of cheaper rapid spec increases yearly of the CMOS and smartphones. It's not always the better tech that wins. Fuji did poor marketing and education to consumers who did not understand the tech. In a consumption society size, bigger numbers, and more megapixels yearly are all that matter. The small Fuji F70exr sensor was a newer tech version than Fuji S5 Pro and would have loved to have seen a DSLR sized version of that sensor.@@robbellphoto

    Good video. However, after owning the Nikon D200 for over 3 months, it is kind of over hyped by many CZcams creators. It is good for what it is, in the photography era it came out in. I also picked up the Canon 5D classic and the 5D does a better job overall for me.

    However, I still like CCD sensor cameras. However, for me I much prefer the look of the CCD sensor in the Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D over the Nikon D200. It looks more film like then the Nikon D200 in my opinion.

    Dude you gotta use flash on the D200. Nikon's aren't like other camera's, they do really good fill flash with just the pop up flash. Set your meter to Center Weighted and drop your flash synce speed to as low as possible, then set to P mode. The D200 is still imo one of the top smartest cameras ever made. It's metering accuracy is still one of the best even in 2024, and likely still will be in 2025.
    If you're gonna shoot manual you can switch to Rear curtain sync, set the flash sync speed to default. Dial in -1, -2, or -2.3 flash comp.
    This camera is literally only missing a second card slot and maybe better in camera iso processing.

    • @UniteAndAttack

      Does the metering matter that much when using a pop up flash? I'm genuinely curious bc I only shoot natural light but now your comment has me intrigued

    • @dct124
      @dct124 Před 4 měsíci

      @@UniteAndAttack Nikon uses TTL so the Flash is going to balance itself with the camera meter. Your reach is 39ft (Auto) to 42ft (Manual). Meaning you can get full body portraits and group shots with a perfectly exposed background and subjects. This melds light around your subject vs a straight on flash even though it's pointing straight. The lower power is a plus.
      A typical pop up flash will just fire off a burst of light, you then hope for the best. Similar to those high fashion bare flash snapshots. This thing though sets your ambient light, then fills in the shadows of your subject naturally by matching the ambient (available) light.
      The D200 commander mode, fires a preflash to slave strobes or speed lights. It can fire off two groups too. My old SB-600 professional flash can't do half of what my D200 tiny pop up flash can do.
      Nikon small flashes
      Z50 - 22ft
      D200 - 42ft
      SB300 - 59ft
      SB400 - 69ft
      The new Nikon Z50 is half as powerful and has none of the D200 flash features. It's still a good fill flash for portraits.
      Benefit of the D200 pop up flash, you don't need a speed light, flash trigger, or sync cable. You could just add a flash modifier to change diffusion or direction or bounce.
      It's probably the most advanced pop up flash ever made. What's the biggest benefit? You can shoot at very low ISO values in the dark. The AF illuminator, you can AF in blackness just like a Z9. (9ft limit, unless paired with a SU-800 or Speedlight).

      @@UniteAndAttack In short. Yes, metering matters. You set ambient exposure first. Set the flash mode, then flash power output.
      TTL will do all of this automatically in any of the auto modes. So you just focus on composing and shooting instead of fighting with your camera.
      I literally just use P mode, Rear curtain sync. Flash Compensation set to 0 -1, -2, or -3 (sweet spot -1.3). It's as easy as literally pressing the flash comp button and rotating a knob once. You can get a perfect sunsets 🌇 and the flash will perfectly light your subject matching the ambient light, making you look like a 20yr Sports Illustrated veteran. Honestly this technology is old. Nikon has been doing this since the 80s on film.
      Nikon made being a professional easy. I used manual mode for almost 20yrs. I'm kicking myself for not using P mode sooner. The only reason I use Manual is for studio strobes and subjects that don't move. Otherwise P mode even for sports.

    For photo walks, I prefer the D80 'coz it's lighter and uses SD (easier to find and carry a USB card reader than one for CF).

      Totally agree ! I also picked up the CF to SD card adapter so all of the cameras now use the SD cards which really helps for this vintage obsession;-)

      Most cf card readers also have a SD card reader as well as other forms of memory, I don't really see the advantage considering that

    CCD is someting special , the "whites" in for instand a water droplet glance is far more realistic then a CMOS, that laks the "dirty colors" ( green/gray, blue/gray , pastels etc )
    I found out in time by testing ( hey bloke kan i make some pictures with your D?? EOS??? etc , not bought it all) that the D2X and the D800E can come close.
    CMOS has the basic colors RGB to dominant I know a lot photograpders that do like the D800E better then the D810 and D850.. you get plastic birds or grass very quickly ..
    The D800E , no degrading lowpass filter function as the most camera's in those days had.. I often thought, wat will happen if I rip out the D200 lowpass filter ( loosing the AF) wil it even be more crisp? D200 , 1/250 shutterspeed 500mm f4.0 no problem hand held 10Mp caputerd at once with every avalible pixel , D7100 I needed 1/640 , the CMOS scanningproces need more shutter speed ? CCD has something special , the D800E can come close , ( 500 Euro -> 26.000 clicks was a bargain) but the D200 will never go..

      Great question. And FANTASTIC CAMERA ! I’ve moved accords the country , literally had to pack up and ship everything across the world. The D700 is superb, the D800 is better. So the D200 had to go. Along with other beloved bodies :-( life and family come first

      Oh that is understandable, i can relate to this. I have had to downsize my belongings due to home moves as well. I did the complete reverse of you and moved to the UK from the US.....I recently scratched the collector itch and picked up a D200 on a whim after watching videos about vintage CCD sensors.

  • @GlenJDiamond
    @GlenJDiamond Před 8 měsíci

    to be even more of a CCD cheapskate - how abouts the D80 - has to be the same sensor as the D200 but with less weather proofing???? Another think I notice about CCD cameras is their ability to shoot better infrared conversions than CMOS sensors - not sure why that would be, just my opionion though... perhaps you could get a CCD converted to IR Nikon body and see how you get on with all those marvellous lenses?????

    • @robbellphoto

      @@robbellphoto oh! thanks!! BTW I've looked up another video about the D200 and it has some parameters in the menu where you can describe the focal length and minimum aperture for the early lenses - the D80 doesn't have that... so 'M' mode for the D80! but I do have an IR converted D80 that I like more than a D5300 CMOS IR conversion. CMOS does have the advantage of live view video modes that CCD in the early Nikon digitals couldn't do.

      @GlenJDiamond Před 8 měsíci

      @@robbellphoto If you're new to IR -- set the camera to jpeg output and set the B&W monochrome in camera conversion (on the D80)... that way you don't have to worry about the extra steps needed to fix an IR raw file.
