I spend more time taking gloves off to do something than putting them back on to protect my hands. Once your hands toughen up with calluses there is no need for gloves. I also would rather be wet from rain than wet from sweat wearing rain gear. Thanks for sharing another good one. Blessings!

Agree. I pray that nothing ever happens to these girls. Stuff happens fast, and when we least expect it. My uncle lost 2 fingers of his left hand. My brother lost a finger tip. My cousin lost half of his right arm. A school mate lost most of his left arm. These guys were doing things that they did every day when these accidents happened. Granted, my cousin had a motorcycle accident (he lost control while messing with his flapping rain gear in the rain), but he was an experienced rider who had a lapse in concentration, and paid the price.

I got another job and it sometimes involved grabbing rope and pulling and my finger would hurt soo damn bad every time I would grab a rope and pull. I finally got fed up and went digging in that lump on my finger and I eventually squeezed out a splinter about 1/8th of an inch. It was such a relief getting it out I couldn't believe it.

Glasses would be totally useless with shop tools. I've even worn a face sheild (with goggles) if it's a particularly nasty job like a table saw because goggles don't protect against a forhead shot. After a while you have so much gear on that you look like an explorer on an alien planet - wait... we pretty much are!

I've been a medic for over 10 years and have seen a ton of hand injuries. It's quite evident watching their videos that while they don't do anything reckless or overly dangerous, they definitely maintain an attitude of "it won't happen to them." Long hair, no gloves, rings on fingers, no eye protection, etc. It's only a matter of time until someone gets hurt. I've said it before in other videos and I'll say it again, safety is cheap. But you can't force compliance. I remember one call we went to that was at a mill. This was a much larger mill than they have and much larger equipment. Worker loaded the log onto the conveyor belt. As it was moving it somehow caught the workers hand. He had a ring on and the ring caused a degloving injury to his ring finger. I hope they have long, safe careers but they might end up paying a very heavy price.

I agree about the loose hair, the rings and the missing eye projection, but not about the gloves - powerful, fast moving machinery and gloves do not belong together, ask any machinist about that, it's a NO GO in that line of work, as the gloves can be caught in a lathe, or a milling machine and that can be fatal! There have been several videos about that here on CZcams, but I think YT has taken them down, at least the very graphic ones.

@@johndoesen1718 You are correct about the gloves, dangerous. If they got splinters they would wear them. Rings can be a problem anywhere anytime, as they can catch on anything. Eye wear may be mandatory, but the best glasses obstruct your view. The hair?! You try telling those girls what to do!!! Good luck! They do cover their ears, but when I run equipment I like to hear, so I would not wear muffs unless the boss said so. Band saws usually don’t spit saw dust at the operator.. Hey Team! An axe head or hatchet head that would be perfect would be from a Broad Axe. Only beveled on one side.

Ah, the LT-15. My favourite log
    working bandsaw!
About 4 years ago, my older brother
    was taking 2 adult-ed woodworking
classes. He dragged me off to one
of them. There was an LT-15 there,
and I volunteered to be the mechanic.
The teacher had a rule, that friends of
    students could visit once. Teacher
dragged my brother off to one side,
and said that that rule does NOT
    apply to me.
A year later, the teacher was at a local
(best in the state) woodworking tool
and lumber store. He heard they need
a mechanic. He tells my brother, brother
tells me. I get that teacher to put in a
good word for me, and he does. Next
day, I walk into the store, and the owner
tells me that I got the job, just on what
    the teacher said.
All because of me working on that
Woodmiser. (Oh, he now has 2 of
    them.)

A draw knife (2 handles with a blade between them) would be better and safer for removing wane instead of the axe head. The one moment Jade pushed the axe head towards her other hand made me wince a bit.

Exactly the comment I came here to make and the very tool we used when my dad and I cut ties long ago.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Seems like it would be easier to handle, and be easier on the hands than that axe head.

Draw knife is just a great tool too. I’ve used it to debark fence posts and seen cabin builders (Kyles Cabin, a good one) use it to debark their logs. Of course I think it was originally used in hand making shingles. Try one ladies so those hands don’t get too scared up.

Emerald, I rarely use gloves for anything unless it's really cold out. I had an accident while winding a garage door spring. If I had gloves on when it happened instead of just getting a couple of cuts I believe one of the gloves would have gotten caught on the spring and I would have had a broken wrist.

The tags on the logs were put on by a special hammer. They look like Signumat log tags.
Demonstrating the tool and the inventory system would make a great video imho.

Over 75,000 views in less than 24 hours !! Lumber Capital Log Yard is really on a roll !! Might get to 100,000 Subscribers by the 1st of January , 2023!! Don't know which Woodmizer mill you could put it on, but I think adding the Woodmizer Lathe Mizer could allow you to make more value added products.
