All Rhodesian soldiers and airmen are the bravest of the brave humans to walk this earth … RLI were pure killing machines hands down . Now Andre is a perfect example of a courageous brave soldier , humble yet capable of doing what was required for him to get the job done . So many good fighting men of Rhodesia from all walks of life and different backgrounds and countries , all fighting for one cause . May they all be remembered for their dedication to the green and white . Andre you are a pleasure to listen to , brave man . Much respect . Thanks again for telling your stories and explaining your experiences . God bless ! Salute

It wasn't the colour of the individual we were fighting. It was their ideology!

100% l am so sick & tired of people assuming that us murungus were fighting for "white supremacy" when nothing could be further from the truth. If any whitey thought that we could carry on with the status quo then they were living in lala land. I was fighting to give the government time to impliment change where there would be a genuine power sharing government with the betterment for all, irrespective of race

No disrespect intended,, but that's not entirely correct because some of us believed that the war was also being fought to prevent black majority rule. We did not want the blacks to take over the country we loved.

@@calummackenzie1797 Hi Callum. We both loved Rhodesia (your love for the country comes across very clearly in your comments and interviews) but we belonged to different strands of Rhodesian society. My mother and her parents were born and bred on the Witwatersrand and I grew up with a deep love for Rhodesia and South Africa and believed it was vital to maintain white rule in both countries. Best wishes to you.

@@glendodds3824 I think that in the beginning even our political leaders followed your train of thought regarding “no Black rule in my time “ but this mellowed as years went by. I am with Calum in believing that we were fighting Marxism and not colour. Surely a contact shared with our RAR brothers made you think this way.

Andre is absolutely correct about Training Troop. 3 things I will always remember and take to my grave 1) The gum trees 2) Drill with Moose Erasmus and 3) Change Parades!!! Our Cpl was Robbie Robertze. A great bloke but for 4 months a bastard 😂😂. Keep well gents and thanks for the great stories. Your memory for names is amazing 👍

I also grew up in a very religious house. Not crazy religious like some that goes over the top. My dads family was 1820 British Settlers that got farms free on the Eastern Province Borders from the British to form a border in the Xhosa Wars. The other side was from Namakwaland, farmers as well from Calvinistic Dutch descend. So yes, the blood in us flows strong as we fought in Africa to survive.

I'll never forget Andre's accounts of coming under fire and knowing from the sound of the incoming bullets how good a shot his opponent was. Also how he was wounded so many times and earned the name Scar Tissue for his troubles.

RLI were amazing , as TF I did a lot of OP's ,called in Fireforce and was used on Stop groups. On patrols we were instructed not to engage if we spotted any group larger than 4 or 5 , but to call it in.Thanks guys, Mike Orylski was like a son to me, and worked for me for a while.

Sadly, if one takes SOME Rhodesian commentary at face value, Rhodesia was also full of "woke" whites. Indeed, these days Rhodesia attracts a lot of support from people around the world who think the average Rhodesian despised apartheid and had no time for whites south of Beitbridge. They wrongly think that Rhodesia was full of whites like Garfield Todd and Pat Bashford.
