I am surprised that there is no Arsenal Fan Mentioning how Wilshere destroyed this trio few years ago. As A Trio, this is the best midfield trio if you are looking to dominate possession. But, if you are looking to play on the counter then I am not sure.
This midfield was spectacular. But from another angle. The fact that the support cast for Barca's midfield trident had deadly forward players and great fullbacks, it just made it harder to stop them.
The same midfield had another great support cast in the national team when you collate the array of midfielders Spain had at the time. Had the national team have better forwards and fullbacks, they could have dominated national team football a whole lot longer than they did.
This was the midfield to have. They made all the right support cast blossom.
Or probably the other way round. Look how kcm made even Vazquez look good at rb or even Valverde. Do you think he is good at rb.

@@brrrrrtenjoyer I agree. But for Valverde, I think he's a player who can go into his own mode. When I watch him play for Uruguay, he impresses a lot. So for me I don't think I'd classify Valverde as an average player, maybe if he doesn't get into another gear in the nearest future.
Spain dominated the game with the same Trio as well, you know. They fell off after Xavi retired and Iniesta and Busquets were too old.
In terms of raw skill on the ball/intelligence, they were certainly the best midfield of any team I have ever seen.
However, what I found impressive about the classic Barca side was how they complemented these geniuses with a host of excellent team players to balance out the team: Alves, Mascherano, Pedro, etc... were all vital as well! It seemed to me that in later years, the quality of these 'secondary' players was often not quite up to the level of the 2010-2012 era.
Interesting point. I always found it interesting that Barcelona played better with f.e. David villa and Pedro than an imbrahimovic and Henry, the latter 2 obvious better attackers.

Madrid generally won those UCL thanks to clutch goals from Bale,Ramos,Ronaldo or Benzema. The midfield was indeed very good but they werent the whole reason of their sucess. For example, this season None of them were playing against City and Madrid still won,

Busqets rarely drops to defence. He usually stay back, but higher than defensive line. Abidal combined three at the back and he doesn't join to attack.

Kroos Modric and Casemiro are good but those 3 are on another level
They are really good and even one of the best midfield trio in the last 20 years, but some people seem to overhype them just because Real won the UCL. Real didnt dominated the midfield in those games but was clinical and solid defensively. Xavi-Iniesta-Busquest crushed their opponents every match by passing them to death and produce magical moments every match.

I have been all my life barca true fan and i witnessed them playing every games together was absolutely a joy but nightmare to others (manu fans know what I'm talking about, I mean none can beat manu twice in ulc final, only barca did because of them+messi ofc) , they literally don't give the ball to the opponents that's what makes them the greatest of all time by far away then others,.... barca will create same midfield soon with pedri, gavi, Pablo Torre they need just to find another busquest which is not easy because between the 3 busquests is the one who is difficult to find

Madrid has a different style that doesnât rely on the midfield. What makes Iniesta-Xavi-Busquets the GOAT midfield is that they dominated every team they played and won together 3 UCL (Xavi and Iniesta 4), 2 Euros and 1 WC.
