If you wanna watch a crazy series, you should take a look at this show. Most shocking it’s a pretty good show to watch.
This episode is based on Terri Schiavo, who was on life support for over 7 years, with family fighting over whether or not to pull the plug. It was a media fiasco.
It's funny how few people today will know that. And the republican crack was the then Bush administration had come out on the side of life and fought to keep her on life support and the democrats never saw a helpless soul they didn't want put to death so they were their usual selves.
I know it's always been this way but that was the first time I remember the media being THAT successful in dividing an issue straight down party lines that shouldn't have anything to do with politics.

In 1990 a woman by the name of Terri Schavo suffered a heart attack which left her in a vegetative state with little to no chance of ever recovering cognitive function. In the wake of it she was put on life support, but a war broke out between her husband, and Terri's parents over whether or not to allow her to live on life support or pass away in peace. Terri's husband argued that she would never have wanted to be kept alive by artificial means with no chance of recovering like that, but her parents disagreed and wanted to keep her alive in the hopes of a cure. The issue sparked a huge national debate about the right to die, and even wound up in court with the judge siding with Terri's husband and his wishes to remove her feeding tube to allow her to pass on. However, the state of Florida where she resided quickly passed legislation that allowed the governor to supersede the wishes of family on such matters known as "Terri's Law" It allowed then-governor Jeb Bush to replace the feeding tube keeping Terri alive indefinitely. The legal battle would continue on for years until in 2005 the federal courts finally ruled in favor of Terri's husband and removed the tube for the final time allowing Terri to finally pass away at the age of 41.
At the time this episode aired the issue was in the public space yet again with a lot of debate from the public, and this episode was absolutely Matt and Trey's way of weighing in on the issue. "Best Friends Forever" aired on March 30th 2005 on Comedy Central. Terri passed away on March 31st 2005 the very next day.

Matt and Trey actually won an Emmy in 2005 for this episode. It was in the category of outstanding animation (less than 60 minutes). So pretty much won in the category for TV cartoons. It was, at the time. their 5th nomination, and first of now five wins in that category. They beat out Spongebob Squarepants, Samurai Jack, The Simpsons, and Family Guy.
2:13 I’m pretty sure that it’s heavily implied that Kenny does take part time or odd jobs. My boy Kenny works hard to get what he wants in life, unlike Cartman who either whines to his mom or manipulates people into getting what he wants.
Usually, the Satan in South Park is a really nice guy, including in the movie too. This is a rare episode in which Satan is the villain. And he’s dating Emperor Palpatine in this episode. I didn’t know Palpatine’s first name was Kevin though. 🤔
The next Satan episode after this one, he throws the best Halloween party and acted like a rich spoiled teenage girl, even dressed up like one.
This episode is pure gold, and you're 100% right that that transition from the two sides arguing to the news with the lawyer finding the last page of the will is just awesome. It didn't matter which side was right at that point, because it got brought back around to what was best for Kenny, which was not to be used as a media poster child like they were.
And for some reason a decision that should’ve been left up to the parents and people involved, ended up becoming a national issue. Seems like this happens for almost every issue except ones that are important.

I love to believe that Trey and Matt not just teasing audience not only for the sake of parody of LOTR, but because they either runout of time or budget to actually animate battle.
The joke was they couldn't show something like that, but in reality they were upgrading their animation department to do stuff like that. By the next few seasons they really showed it off.

Great episode. I don't know if this comment has been made yet, but it's a good time to mention that everybody should have a will. Not necessarily because you might end up a vegetable on a feeding tube, but just to make things easier for your family and friends. I've seen first hand so many people turn into Cartman just to fight and get people's shit. Death changes people, especially when it comes to money. It's disgusting.
Also I think the best part of this episode is how they're describing the battle being so amazing and we don't even get to see shit 😂
Semi on topic, but Sony totally screwed themselves with the PSP just like they did 20 years earlier with Betamax.
They had the PSP set up with WiFi internet, a premium handheld gaming system and a port set up for a cell phone/video and streaming attachment that was to go live in Japan a few months after release. They had homebred programmers building free apps for the device, it could have taken over the world.
Internally they had a war over cross competing with their Sony Erickson Cell service, and fear of the homebred apps, and they crippled the device with limiting software updates and crushed the cell phone idea.
If they hadnt, apple and Samsung would be fighting Sony for market share when the Vita came out as handheld PS3, Cell Phone, 4k, video streaming casting device.
Shame on Sony execs for screwing themselves again.

I remember playing gta liberty city stories (I think it was called) and also Socom Fireteam Bravo 2, the glitchiest Cod-like game I have ever played in the entirety of my life, basically crouching into anything and slowly backing into it would allow you to go into any wall almost, like legitimately 80% of every single wall.

The unplugging situation is referring to the case of Terri Schiavo.... i remember that very good, poor woman... her husband wanted after years of coma to unplug her as it was her wish when alive, her parents wanted to keep her alive of lets say "vegetable" in the hope she will wake up one day. In the end courts did decide.
Eyy, I too had the PSP with GTA Vice City Stories, played the hell out of it, along with that one SOCOM game and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Crystal Defenders, and that weird tetris music video game. I used to like listening to the Demo Disc that had the songs on it, Coheed and Cambria and That "Looking back at me" song with the guy who looked like Paul Tuttle from Orange Country Choppers.
