    Welcome to my channel, I really appreciate the support!
    My Italian experience is properly under way, and my first feature on the channel is on the Ligurian Coast in sensational Genova!
    Genova (or Genoa in English) is a city with so much to offer to its visitors, and I am so eager to recommend it as it is so much more then just a gateway to more well-known nearby towns. Andiamo! Let's go!
    Please like and comment on the video, and stay tuned, as more episodes will be on the way!
    P.S. Did you know that I'm a travel advisor? Going to Italy or perhaps to another bucket-list destination? I'd love to work with you so feel free to contact me for more information!

    Nice video and it's always good to see someone who comes from abroad to review Genoa. Indeed, we are too often overlooked by the main tourist routes.
    The only criticism I feel is related to the fact that only the city center was visited.
    Genoa is 20 Km long (West-East) and almost every neighborhood has its own ancient churches, historic palaces and villas, parks, etc ... indeed the various Genoese neighborhoods were nineteen independent municipalities until 1926, when they were unified with the central one, the historical Genoa. Some suffered from strong building speculation in the 60s / 70s (a period of intense immigration from the central and southern Italy) which makes the town seem a continuous whole, but anyway they have maintained a strong identity.
    However, despite having passed almost a century, the vast majority of tourist guides / television documentaries / the same institutional tourist promotion, seem to be interested only in what is present in the area of the "historical" (central) Genoa, neglecting the more decentralized districts, so unfortunately it's a generalized problem.
    If you were to return, I would like to recommend the "Villa Duchessa di Galliera" in Voltri with its large historical park, the "Parco Villa Durazzo Pallavicini" in Pegli (unfortunately this isn't free), the "Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Monte Gazzo" above the neighborhood of Sestri Ponente, from which you can see a panorama that sweeps for a good part of the west ligurian coast, and the "Anita Garibaldi promenade" in the Nervi district (unfortunately in recent years a very lacking in maintenance), with its parks and art museums.
    Staying in the city center, there is also the Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto lift, near the Principe station, which is often the destination of groups of civil engineers and public transport fan, due to its particular conformation (a horizontal section, followed by a vertical one), which leads to the museum of cultures of the D'Albertis Castle (a 19th century palace built in the likeness of a little medieval castles).

      Compared to other cities such as Rome, Naples, Venice or Florence, the city of Genoa for tourists comes soo much later.
      - I find ridiculous to suggest tourists who come to Genoa to visit the suburbs of Genoa. Nostra Signora del Monte Gazzo, seriously ? Other cities, have much more glamorous and easier to go sanctuaries than that. There is no reason to invite someone to see a park in Sestri Ponente located about 30 minutes from the center when in 10 min one can go to the free park and promenade in Nervi ( you mentioned it. ).
      Maybe since he already was in the city center and "caruggi" he could have shown a few sex workers. Not only they have been there for hundred of years, but it would have certainly gotten more views to an already well done video.
      In his other videos he totally skipped Portofino ( if one does not own a mansion or a yacht there is little to nothing to do for regular folks ) and showed 5 terre which is much more interesting for the vast majority of visitors.
      In my modest opinion he is definitely on the right track.
      No need to come back to Genoa, he totally nailed it the first time.

    • @alexsbr7111
      @alexsbr7111 Před rokem

      @@singleman805 No, Genoa and its Riviera have always been a tourist destination, indeed they appear in "The Voyage of Italy" by Richard Lassels (1670), the text that first introduce the "Grand Tour" in Europe. Lassels himself at the time wrote in the book that he appreciated the landscape made up of suburbs, villas and little settlements from Savona to Genoa, more than the city itself.
      Over the decades, the type of tourism specialized in seaside tourism (but very different from today's mass seaside tourism). There were problems starting from the end of the nineteenth century, when heavy industry (shipyards, foundries, later petrochemical industry) expanded to the west of the city center, going to occupy the beaches: the result was that this type of tourism moved more to the Riviera di Levante (Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Sestri Levante, etc ...) and Riviera di Ponente (Cogoleto, Celle, Varazze, Albisola, Alassio , etc...), but it still remained nearby and Genoa (thanks to its port) was often the point of arrival and departure. But all the other tourist destinations, not linked to the sea, present in the various independent municipalities and then in the unified Genoa (palaces, churches, panoramic points, etc.), continue to exist and to be visited, in the last 30 years them was greatly re-evaluated, but they have always remained a point of attraction (just read the publications of the Italian Touring club published over the decades).
      Are you surprised that I suggest the panoramic view of the sanctuary of "Nostra Signora del Monte Gazzo"? Do you know what places Elisabeth of Austria visited when she visited the Riviera in 1893 for a 3 days holiday? Castelletto, the Nervi promenade, Villa Pallavicini in Pegli and the Sanctuary of Gazzo. And this is because the Sanctuary, thanks to its panoramic view, was considered one of the obligatory places to see on trips in the Riviera.
      Visiting the Genoese Riviera and seeing only the mainstream attractions of the old Genoa city center ignoring everything else (including the historic centers of the various districts), is like going on vacation to the antipodes and, once you arrive, spending all your time inside a McDonald's.

    • @singleman805
      @singleman805 Před rokem

      @@alexsbr7111 Elisabeth of Austria in 1893 and someone else from 1670 liked it, so what ?
      It does nor mean anything about now and how people decide to go somewhere and travel today. Rest assured that when someone goes to Genoa today " Nostra Signora del Monte Gazzo" is not on top of the list for places to visit. ( Scusa, ma chi se la incula la signora del monte gazzo ? ) Everywhere in Italy you have an unlimited number of sanctuaries and about every 750 meters there is a church or 2 or 3, soo it is totally irrelevant who visited what sanctuary 100 or 300 years ago. It's is ridiculous !!! We can agree to disagree. McDonald's old slogan used to be " You deserve a break today." Now it is " I am loving it." The people you mentioned have been dead for a long time. You might want to follow McDonald's and have a more updated point of view for visitors that also reflects what is important today.( Convenience, parking, restaurants, public transportation time/money budgets etc etc and certainly go somewhere and see something that is at hand and easy to do.)
      Last but not least: instead of criticizing the video he published ( it was awesome ) and suggest him to go to places that no one cares like the suburb of the city, you could always go there yourself and make your own video :- )

    unfortunately the "caruggi" in Genova are now to be avoided - what was once an amazing place to wander through, with extremely narrow streets designed like a maze so as to confuse invading pirates in the middle ages, filled with antique shops, fashion shops, small businesses, an absolute delight of a place (I'm talking about 20 years ago), is now filled with Indian and african migrants (sorry, this is not a racist comment, it simply is telling what it's like now), full of crime, dirty, smell of urine every, very unsafe place to be - avoid it if you're a tourist (and locals avoid it too), and the police do nothing about it,
