  • If the GI Joe Retro line wasn't quite what you were expecting, you can create your own vintage mint on card o-ring figures without having to permanently glue the bubble to the repro card.

I had literally just ordered some repro cards and bubbles from Beggars Canyon, after fighting with the idea of 'sealing' some old Joes on cards. This was just the right vid at just the right time!

As a Hotwheel collector in my youth i was taught the ancient collector secret of making a U-cut on blister bubbles for optional re-packing. It works on most blister packaging. Transformers, BeastWars, StarWars, Marvel, and Joes.

Very cool. I like using those mini, Joe-sized Star Cases and using a double sided-tape to stick it onto the repro cardback.

Great idea could also work on vehicle box flaps that don't stay shut. My plan for the retro line was to relive some childhood memories and open them.

    Mike,
Awesome technique brother! 👍. In the past I have owned many rare carded action figures and the thought of blisters falling off or having a Joe’s o-ring break frightened me!! I sold them all off and only have a few modern figures on card!👍 This is a great substitute for having nice figures on a beautiful card at a fraction of the price. Thanks for sharing😁

Pretty cool, I too have my original Snake-Eyes that I got in 1986 when the back file cards were colored gray, its complete with all accessories I've sinced replaced the o-ring but the only issue is that on the backpack one of the pegs that hold his sword broke many years ago.

I have to be honest with you Michael. Last week when you mentioned this video I didn’t think I was going to like your idea. However, I was still looking forward to your video. I guess you can say I was a little curious.
After watching your video..... All I’m going to say is your idea is freaking awesome! It’s simple and looks great! The magnets you picked were a perfect size. I’m looking forward to now doing the same to my collection. I have a couple of figures (Scarlett) to name one that I need to card ASAP! Thank you Michael for sharing!

I have to say those card backs look amazing. This is a very nice technique for recreating a mint on card styled packaging. I love how this could be used for other vintage toy lines. I may explore this concept myself for a feature project as my collection expands.

Wow great idea to display and still play with figures. You mention they are 1x5 magnets. I see they also sell 1x3 ... have you tried them and do you think that size would be too weak to handle the figure weight? Thx

    • @MichaelMercy
