  • Today's famous Grave visit, I pay tribute and visit the final resting place of legendary motor cycle racers William & Robert Dunlop.
Stephen Robert Dunlop (25 November 1960 - 15 May 2008) was a Northern Irish motorcycle racer, the younger brother of fellow road racer, the late Joey Dunlop, and the father of William Dunlop and Michael Dunlop. Like Joey, Robert died after a crash. His son William died in a crash during practice at the Skerries 100 in Dublin on 7 July 2018
William Dunlop (23 July 1985 - 7 July 2018) was a professional motorcycle racer from Northern Ireland who died as a result of a racing incident. Part of a motorcycle racing dynasty, William was the elder brother of Michael; both were sons of the late Robert Dunlop, and nephews of the late Joey Dunlop. He died as a result of a crash at a racing event in the Republic of Ireland.

Hands down the best video you have done as far as I am concerned, being a road racing fan and a Joey Dunlop fan. The Dunlop’s are racing gods from Joey, Robert , William , they will always be missed not a year goes by without thinking of the Dunlop’s in the Isle of Man TT, we are lucky we still have Michael Dunlop carrying on the great name. Thank you for such a great video keep up the good work you do! P.s. Joey, Robert, William, gone but will never be forgotten Dunlop’s were and are with Michael Dunlop road racing gods in my eyes.

Everytime you throw your leg over that frame you say a little prayer. My husband had ridden for 55 years he finally gave it up. Once he had his last rights and I am ever grateful our lord did not take him. We are retired living in a cottage in northern Michigan. His 1967 BMW and his 2008 street glide are wrapped up in garage with battery tenders going 24/7. Bless them both for waking up every day and doing it!

    Hi Paul.
One feels as though one should be sad that a father and son both died in motorcycle race accidents but they both died doing what they loved, despite previous injuries. I’m not a motorcyclist but watching Henry Cole and friends it becomes clear just how addictive riding these machines is and motorcycle racing just takes it to another level. Both Robert and William pushed themselves and their bikes to the limit. At that level one tiny mistake of a minor mechanical breakdown can lead to ultimate disaster but they, like every other motorcycle rider, would have been well aware of the risks involved and were willing to take them as they competed to be the best of the best. They fought their way to the top and died doing what they loved and became legends in the process. R.I.P.

I'll never forget seeing Robert, William & Michael racing at my local Road racing circuit at Walderstown, Athlone, Ireland. They were swapping places in the top 3 all out going for it, absolutely brilliant stuff. The Dunlop family are some family there will be anything like them ever. Michael had some year this year & not far off his uncle Joeys record of TT wins

I am show my age here, I watched Robert and Joey on the fore circuit. The dunlop name was always on the tannoy. It was a great circuit and these guys knew how to get the best out of it. Great guys to watch. I have seen Robert , william and Michael at the NW 200 and the ulster GP. These guys have to be respected for their commitment dedication to a hard sport. The world would be a very dull place without this sport and the people who love to do it. I hope road racing continues for generations yet, and others respect peoples choices in life!

Enjoyed that Paul, thanks. Brilliant tribute. The Dunlop family have faced so much tragedy, here's hoping Michael lives to a ripe old age and manages to extend his Uncle Joey's 26 TT wins. After everything they've put into the sport, the record being held by the Dunlop family seems only right 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Looking forward to the Joey one now too. Cheers!

I got into Superbike racing years ago for a while. I don’t think I appreciated that it was any more than jumping on a bike and going hell for leather. I always think of Barry Sheen and how horribly he was injured and that kind of brought it home how courageous the riders are and that they don’t stand a chance in a really bad crash. It’s fast and exciting and takes nerves of steel. I hadn’t heard of these men so found their story really interesting and I have to say how pristine the cemetery where they are buried is. I used to date a guy whose passion was motorbikes and we often went for a run. I didn’t mind around town but up in the hills along the winding roads it scared me, I didn’t like leaning into the corners, always thinking the bike was going to go over, he would be pointing out great views and I would be scrunching my eyes up not daring to look!! Glad I had the experience but I’m afraid two wheels are not for me

I don’t know if your still out there, Joeys grave was in front of Robert and Williams, there is a lovely memorial garden to them all in Ballymoney as well as Joeys bar where his race bikes hang from ceiling, top video of legends of racing, love to see a vid from you about joey.

I was in the paddocks with all the Dunlops years ago. I was in with a road racing team and went to all our road racing events north and south. I was visiting the Dunlops graves every 2 weeks until i had a serious motorcycle accident losing many bones and brain bleeds plus crushed my left hand and fingers. Not racing related just on normal roads.
I will be back on the bikes again. The new hip and knee with wait. Over on this island road racing is our dna. I fully support and love road racing even tho ive lost so many good friends from it.
Best sport in the world. All our fallen bikers had a real passion for racing and the show must go on in their names and in tribute. I will always support irish road racing
We still have Michael Dunlop who's a legend and doing the Dunlop name so proud. One behind his uncle Joey in the TT wins. ❤🏍🏍🙏

But its a free choice that they make and they are fully aware of the risks. We must keep these races alive, as long as people want yo compete. Obviously make it as safe as they can. But life is always a risk.

Tv/video clips of motorcycle racing don't convey just how fast the bikes are travelling. The Dunlop family took part in races that were held on public roads such as the Isle of Man TT, rather than on circuits like Silverstone or Brands Hatch. Road racing is very exciting but very dangerous too, and the riders know the risks involved. There are fatalities at the Isle of Man TT every year. The affection and respect for the members of the Dunlop family who died doing what they loved can be judged by the size of the funeral corteges.

Had a 650 Triumph Bonneville back in the 60's. Could just about edge it up to 110mph. 125’s can do that these days, scary or what🤔😱?!
    Great video, Paul🤟✌️🙏

That's an amazing sky above you as you filmed this!
Motorcycle racing has got to be even more dangerous than Formula 1. At least in F1 you have some degree of protection within the cockpit but in motorbikes you have nothing but the skill of the rider. These guys must have had nerves of steel to be hitting those kinds of speeds.
Incidentally I once heard that the ex Linfield and Northern Ireland international goalkeeper George Dunlop was from the same family. George only got 4 caps, such was the consistency of the great Pat Jennings, but even so, if its true then it would show a lot of talent within that family. Can anyone confirm if they were related?

Great tribute to one of the greatest family dynasties. I'm guessing you have done a separate video about Joey and hopefully you got a chance to visit the Joey Dunlop memorial garden also.
Coleraine is pronounced Coal-rain btw, but our place names always get mispronounced.

In my 70-odd years, I've known a number of people who have owned motorcycles, but I don't know anyone who hasn't, at some point, fallen off the darn things!
