Astonishing. Seeming to recover his emotions after totally breaking down mid-game! Ronaldo scored his 2nd pen and immediately thanked and acknowledged the Portuguese fans. A humble Ronaldo is something I'd never thought I'd see.
Humble? The only thing Ronaldo cares about is how Portuguese results reflect on him. He cared more about how missing a penalty would tarnish his legacy than hurt his team or his country. His personality has always been a liability, it's just when he was the best player in the world teams put up with it.
He cares about himself hence playing in a dead rubber 3rd group stage game instead of resting, just because he wants to score. Taking every free kick whatever the position and shooting on sight. He is doing it for the team and fans 🤣
The emotions is because he knows his time is ending, there is a lot more going on with Ronaldo.
Ye it's pathetic isn't it.
The Portugal team are trying to win a tournament and Ronaldo is too busy worrying about himself.

@@NeilLewis77 Have you ever worked a job for a long period of your life and done something incredibly mundane and got emotional over the fact it's the last time you'll do that there? I have, and it was for jobs I ultimately didn't really like. He is literally living his dream and for a brief moment he was overwhelmed by the possibility of it ending. If I was playing by his side it would spur me on to make sure one of my countries biggest legends dream continues for just a bit longer. Fernandes clearly recognised the moment and if anything that display of weakness humanises Ronaldo and further signals the changing of the guard. Yes he is arrogant, but he wouldn't be one of the biggest legends of the sport if he wasn't. And no, I'm not a Ronaldo fanboy

When people hate someone, they criticise absolutely everything. It is pathetic, really.
I repeat: I do not like the guy either, but I am not going to criticise him for having emotions.
What's ridiculous is he'd probably be a lot more effective if they stuck him on when defenders are tired.
13:55 as much as I dislike Ronaldo - which is to say a lot - I can’t disagree with the opinion that his tears were “ridiculous” and “silly” more strongly.
He’s a selfish primadonna. But he’s also patriotic and proud and wants his country to win. He felt like he let his countrymen down in what could have possibly been his last match in a Portuguese uniform. Why would his teammates think that his reaction was “ridiculous”?
That might have been the most likable/relatable thing Ronaldo has ever done.

Ronaldo only cares about Portugal so far as their results reflect on his own personal legacy. If he really cared about Portugal he'd play a supporting role behind their other players that are still world class. He wouldn't be carrying in like a pork chop and making it all about himself

Can we take the time to acknowledge how appalling Martin Keown is as a commentator? Does he actually know the rules of the game? And does he think only former players understand football?
Gvardiol played with a mask too in another major tournament and he was brilliant. Not saying the mask cannot affect Mbappé, but I don't think it's the reason why he isn't delivering. All teams know how dangerous he is and they try to make it difficult for him.

@@artschool673 Out-of-play fragments of live broadcast are projected onto the huge screens around stadiums; that's when we see fans seizing their moment of fame, cheering and waving. At one point, after the missed penalty, a middle-aged sad woman appeared for a few seconds and judging by the material of the seat, she was in a section for privileged folks. So, it's quite possible that Cristiano Ronaldo might have caught his mother's face on the screen.
Otherwise, I've seen a documentary film on Bayern Munich's 1992-93 season yesterday and Manfred Schwabl's silent stare into the void in the dressing room carries a ton more emotion than Cristiano Ronaldo's glamourised tears. Just saying.

Surely you can't be serious? Why are so many journalists missing De Bruynes point? Cleary he means that the spanish, german, french national teams also have golden generations and they are all competing for the same tournaments together. Hence, its difficult for the belgian golden generation. The golden generation tag is really given to them because they havent had one before that, other teams seemingly constantly produce them.
