- Assemble Corvette parking brakes with time saving tricks - using a strong magnet and a wire or fishing line to stabilize the shoe pins and a thin punch or ice pick to set the top shoe spring.
Those brakes are always troubling but you did a good job simplifying some of the frustrating issues. Thanks🤗😉
Dude, i absolutely can not say Thank You enough for the tip of tying the string to the retainer pins!!!! LIFE SAVER. The job is still a major PITA, but this trick atleast got me past the point of being convince the job was absolutely impossible without pulling the axles.
The "other tutorial" i watched before your's literally jumped past this process......which is literally the part that people need to see.

Thank you for many reasons 1 for taking the time to video this 2 for using a head mounted camera and great lighting so you can use both hands to show how it’s done 3 no music to distract or block from your clear verbal instructions. I learned French while installing these parts! my problem was the top spring had a small straight screwdriver with a v-notch ground in it what a pain good to go now good video

They installed them with the axle was removed but what a pain.
Buy him a dinner cause he really worked hard the first time figuring that one out, he made that spring look easy.
The only spring that's easy is the very first one.
I just did this on the right side of my Vette. Yes, I did invent some new cuss words along the way, but it worked. It's also a good idea to either make, or buy the screwdriver thing from Zip Corvette. But here's something I totally overlooked. Over the years, I had increased the tension on my brake cable, and didn't think to loosen it back out before this job. Glad I caught it before I got any further.

BTW, if you don't have strong magnet for the "easier" pin, you could still use the same fishline method as the "harder" pin (if this wasn't obvious).

And now the second one is done, just as easily as the first! Having done both sides, where I used the wire method for the captive pin and the no wire method for the loose pin, I’m wondering why there are two ways to do this? Based on my limited experience I would expect both to work for back and front… what am I missing? Either way this was a huge improvement over the usual ‘start at the top’ way of doing this!!

I've got my calipers and rotors off awaiting a caliper rebuild and rotor replacement. While I'm at it, can I just remove the parking brake shoe pads, clean and rebuild as you've highlighted in the video? The show pads and assemble are looking pretty rough so I figure I might as well clean while at it.
As you can see in the video, the calipers and rotor have yet to be replaced. Your timing is perfect

As long as the cleaner does not contain any lubricant. Don’t get any cleaner or brake fluid on your paint.

Everything was replaced, including all calipers and rotors
