    Funny enough you say Season 5 is the most loved, but for me it was the worst season. It lacked a central theme to me. Looking at it I just felt like it was leftovers for the Reach items and Halloween items. The flood stuff was a single armor at the end, everything else was in the shop. I joked and said it was Winter Update 2, but it forecasted what we'd get with operations with 20 tiers a month and only 1 armor set. The bandit EVO didn't feel like a significant addition and the big game mode was firefight and that came mid-season instead of at the start. For context, I completed every season, almost every event (I missed out on cyber-showdown 1 and Winter Contingency 1, former due to the challenges still being bad, and latter because of a trip) and every operation until Yappening 2 where I'll forever be on level 17.
    For me, it just became less reason for me to play the game consistently while theoretically we have the same amount of non-cosmetic content, seasons gave me a theme to be excited for, and something to always grind towards. Tenrai 4 was cool, but since then there hasn't been a good map-to-mode-to-theme ratio for me. It is like the maps, modes, and passes are all on different wavelengths. The maps have nothing to do with the pass theme, and the pass theme may SOMETIMES match up with the mode.
    Then on the cosmetic side, I just lost the urge to grind. As you said there is alot of value in seasons, but with seasons there was always something to grind for. You had the free events, too. Now its just "Do I like this armor, yes or no" and ever since Yappening the answer has been no. Operator piqued my interest, as did that commando model but I just can't shell out the $5 for it when I really don't want to play.
    And that leads me into what really made my motivation plummet. The quality of life updates while nice don't do anything for me. There hasn't been a substantial update to firefight and we got 1 major update to BTB, and a small update for Squad Battle. I never liked 343's BTB maps, they felt too restricted and the forge maps are much better, but few in number and they aren't adding more.
    All this adds up into a game that I do like at the core, but doesn't add anything new for me, doesn't reward me, and doesn't interest me. I'm glad the match composer was added, but it only helps in my non-main modes. And I'm not having fun in my main modes so I just stopped. I like Infinite, I want to play it, but its been the same game for me since this time last year. I've been playing since the public flights, if nothing substantially new is coming I'm ready to play the next halo or whatever else comes along!
    My frustration comes from this limbo-state where new things are still being added, yet I feel like I'm waiting for something to draw me back in. Before Halo Infinite Doom Eternal was my weekly-game from 2020 to 2021. It stopped putting anything new in so I moved on and that game was Infinite. And despite the game being slow to find its footing, we reached the highs of Season 4 and then never made it back. Helldivers 2 became my weekly game for a bit (now that is having its own issues) and I'm likely moving onto Space Marine 2. (I say likely, I played the first game a while back and liked it, and I've been waiting for SM2 since then) its not like I stopped playing because "ew I don't like it" its just that new stuff comes along and I'll pick them up unless something keeps me around. Doom Eternal added mod support and I've been keeping my eye on that too.

    the only thing I don't like about the seasons is the lack of lore drops and story progression. the way academy intro, setting and outro implies multiplayer would be closer related to the campaign story and show the prospective of the unsc looking for infinity. when we did get lore drops (lone wolves and the flood one) it was enjoyable.

  • @woodsgump
    @woodsgump Před 9 dny

    Yeah now that I think about it. Operations are a good way of proposing for a F2P game like Halo Infinite. Compared to other games like Warframe or Destiny 2, they heavily rely on Seasons or events which although it sounds good financial wise on the matter the content for them are mixed. For Destiny 2, the content has been certainly mixed and conflicted with the Bungie team and community manager organizing in-game activities & events.
    For Warframe, they seem to be doing well as far as I can recall. Not forte into Warframe but it’s still going. Back to the matter, yeah since November/December of 2023 we got like 7-8 or 9 Operations which accumulated a lot of content rather than big 50 to 100 item seasons. As far as the shop goes it’s for the financial matter of backing the game, which the community strongly feels heavily about, and the game modes & armors as you said have been consistent.
    Well thought out video!

    The graphics on these forge maps are so bad that from the thumbnail, I thought the video was about a pre-alpha build of Halo Infinite. It had a similar look to a very early pre-alpha build that showed off the early narrative direction for the campaign by Dan Chosich.

    My problem is with *which* content they're prioritizing. We don't need new dev maps or gamemodes anymore, we have forge and CGB for that. 343 is putting a focus on fanmade content and almost completely dropped their own support for the game.
    I don't want new forge maps and modes as content updates, I want new weapons, the falcon that's been leaked for over a year, etc.
    Back when season 5 started, it was going to be one big cross-core update every 4 months, but ever since operations they've dropped that entirely.

    As more content keeps being added and more changes occur, it becomes clear that content wasn't as big of an issue as people made it out to be. The baseline experience of playing Halo Infinite simply does not appeal to the vast majority of people who interact with it. It doesn't matter how much of something there is if most people do not like that 'something'.
    When player numbers fail to rise in spite of content and QOL updates, and instead significantly decrease, my sentiment is essentially confirmed. There are numerous examples of failed live service games clawing their way into widely appealing relevance within a shorter period of time.
    Microsoft and 343i recognize this.

  • @Makoima

    Honestly much prefer the operation updates as it allows 343 to fix bugs sooner than having to wait for the next season to drop everything and then if anything breaks from the update we don't have to wait for another season to fix those new bugs.

    I'm gonna keep it 100%, most people don't like seeing "pride" stuff in their games. I wouldn't really count shoehorning political ideology representation as "content updates". I think I could speak for a LOT of people when I say that.
    Good video though 👍I definitely think operations get dogged on too hard. I think it's something moreso born out of fatigue than anything else, and who can blame people? We know that both the Falcon and Gauss Hog are basically all but completely finished and ready-to-go, as well as many weapons that are mostly finished like the Mutilator, and there are multiple PvP maps as well as forge canvases that are halfway developed.
    I'm not joking when I say that a 1:1 remake of Forge World from Halo: Reach (Yes, you are not going insane & you actually just read that) is sitting in the files half-developed. You can look this up, it's real.
    What is happening with all of this unpublished content?

    In my opinion, 343 has been taking slow steps into the right direction with the multiplayer. With the game being free to play obviously there are gonna be micro transactions but 343 has significantly cut down on them, getting rid of battle passes and replacing them with operations makes the game more fun for the average player who probably wouldn’t want to spend $10 on cosmetics thus making cosmetics more available to a player who doesnt pay for cosmetics.

    • @SGTBlairTV
      @SGTBlairTV  Před 23 dny

    The largest disappointment for me is the end of the multiplayer story. There’s the fact it ended just as it got interesting but I have a larger issue with how they’ve continued the narrative.
    They’ve gotten the chance to continue storylines left in the dust (Anvil, SoF, Zeta Halo with the House of Reckoning “flashback” story, Mahkee from Halo 5 with Battle for the Blood Moon), but also have created other more annoying storylines left too open (UNSC Saturn and Flood, Banished Spartan imo, and a lack of Firewall despite the Chimera armor being the customization for Cyber Showdown III). I like the start of storylines, but it reeks of 343’s main storytelling issue with how they seem to only start threads that lay dormant until they need to pull them back out of cryo before promptly putting them back in cryo for another number of literal years.

      @@SGTBlairTV books are great imo. They always wrap up in some way or another. Half the waypoint blogs end on a fade to black where the actual ending is either very clear or leave it frustratingly up in the air (Saturn Devouring His Son has some terrible implications for the canon I’d rather be easily fixed by the fact the Forerunners just seem to sometimes have random Flood research facilities judging by Halo Wars and Saturn instead of just a random Flood infestation parading through unknown regions of the galaxy).
