    Super accurate cueing, but how do you get so much power into shot with the short back-swing?

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před rokem +1

      Hi, I've always had decent power plus that's a pretty heavy cue I'm using in that video. The loose grip also adds some speed.
      That was a slow table as well. I could really get the cue ball moving on a pro speed cloth.

    Where do you look while delivering your cue? On the cue ball or the object ball?

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před rokem

      I always looked at the object ball but I hear some top players look at the cue ball.
      I probably tried cue ball many years ago but came to the decision that object ball was better.
      Haven't played for a couple of years 👋

    Pure class, one thing that i learned is not to feather the cue too much. Less back swing

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před rokem

      A short backswing like mine can be a good thing but I would advise a longer swing on power shots.
      Without that longer swing it's difficult to apply power while avoiding body movement.

    This is amazing mate you actually make it look as if your playing on a 6ft table. Cue action works mint I've always preferred little to no feathering up to the white my game has probably suffered because of backswing. Did you have to practice most days a week to achieve this standard during the 30 odd years?

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před 6 lety

      Luke Davenport The amount I practiced varied a lot over the years. During the 5 years when I made these videos I was playing a lot, normally 2 or 3 hours a day, 3 or 4 days a week. It was only £1.50 an hour so I was able to play a lot. I wanted to see just how well I could play with loads of practice but wish I'd done it when I was a lot younger.

    • @lukepjd
      @lukepjd Před 6 lety

      The Snookerist thanks for the reply mate. Haha me too and we probably had much more time when younger too! 1.50 is a bargain, our club is £1 40 mins which is cheap too. That is an awesome standard you got to then, what would you say helped you the most practice routine wise that took you from 30-40 break player to more? My highest break 56.Cheers

      Luke Davenport Just practicing building breaks around the pink and black is where I spent the most time as that is where the most damage can be done. Saying that though I spent a lot of time in all departments. If I had problems with certain shots I would just keep setting them up over and over. Nothing more than hard graft really but at the same time loved the challenge. Also spent a lot of time working on cue action. Used to play a lot in leagues etc but that's all in the past. Really just made these videos to look back on in later years.

    Hi.. I love your videos.. just wondering, why do you use a wrist band on your cueing hand? Does it help with your cueing?

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před 7 lety

      In the summer it gets pretty hot and I play fairly quickly so a wrist band is helpful at times.

  • @qideren

    do you mind sharing your aiming method?

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před 7 lety +5

      In the early days I had a couple of methods. One of them was just to imagine a dot on the object ball where I thought the potting angle would be. The other was to imagine a line running from the Q ball to the object ball and through to the pocket. That was as technical as I got with aiming methods. Today I don't really have a method as I;ve played so much that I just seem to know where to aim. Some people use ghost ball, I never liked that one. Others use fractional aiming, full ball, half ball, quarter ball etc. I must say though that I think more pots are missed due to bad cueing than misreading the potting angles.

    7 Tons.....now that's just showing off lol. Excellent video. I wish I had the cue action to make a video like this......it would just be a blur of the lampshade on each shot :-)
    top job mate.

      thank you
      well after watching your this video i decided to shorten my backswing and i can see that i can make almost 100 break in line just taking pink/black, however it feels so jerky and lots of body movement ( the backswing lenght aprox 3-4 inches for all shots , i forced myself to do this, caz i cannot force my self to do different lenght of backswing for different shots, but i can do this with my own natural backswing, however i feel even my shortest backswing is way too long
      i have a long backswing and very huge follow through ( i can do a deep screw like jud and neil , however my break building is trash although i also play short and medium backswing based on the shot but dont know i felt that even my short backswings are long. by the way when i play with backswing it feels so smooth and i get no body movement at all.
      do you think i stick with my own long backswing ? ( i can screw back long blues and in off my white ball with long backswing but with very short one that i recently tried i cannot do that, however i made big breaks doing lineup, but with lots of pressure and lots of body movement
      been playing for 7 years and cannot make consistent 50 breaks, saw many many coaches, saw my last coach more than 6 times now but not huge improvement ( i practice solo hours , but losing hope )
      what do you recommend at this point? caz you are experienced player and might have already faced these problems
      thank you

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před 7 lety

      You cant use one length of swing for all shots. I use a very short swing for slow roll in pots. But for shots which require power I use a longer swing. The more power you need then the longer the backswing should be. A long swing is no good for slow shots as it normally leads to deceleration and pushing the cue ball offline.--- Certainly for screw shots you need a long backswing to keep the action smooth. --- My backswing isn't really long enough for power shots but its something I'm working on. The problem with a long swing is that it makes it harder to strike the cue ball with accuracy.--- It really just comes down to practice and trying shots which require different amounts of power and backswing length. After a while it should become natural with little thought required. Good luck.

    • @bottlecap57
      @bottlecap57  Před 7 lety

      Im not sure about coaching levels. I only ever saw one and after an hour he told me he couldn't teach me anything.-- Practice is what its all about, though if you have a fault in your cue action it only becomes worse unless you can sort it. -- I don't have the cue action I would like but ive managed to make it work a lot of the time. Ive tried cueing like the pros but its not for me. I wouldn't know enough to coach online sadly. Just keep watching and learning off good players if you can :)

    do you think that being a left-handed player has an advantage...there seem to be a lot of left-handed pros. And then, of course, there is Ronnie O'Sullivan

      @@bottlecap57 1) Judd Trump 2) Neil Robertson 3) Mark Williams 4) Mark Allen 7) Ronnie O'Sullivan (left or right) 15) Barry Hawkens all play left handed (the number is world ranking). Normally if it were the general population it would be 10 percent or 1 or 2. And there have been many good lefties in the past (e.g.Jimmy White) I too am left handed and
      I think I know why it is an advantage.
