I'm disabled due to chronic illness and this routine is vital for me. I dont always have it in me to finish my routine in a single day.
Absolutely, I’m glad this works for you ♥️
me too mell has helped my hair turn from a loofa so soft and silky I have never damage nd this helps so much thanks Mel!😘😘😘
Same! I hardly ever style my hair because just washing it is too much for me. I had never thought I could style it later! I'm excited to try this method.
I have chronic illness too. I always have to choose if I want to not style my hair, or take the entire day to only do my hair. This will save me so much time!
Idk if this would help you or be easier for you but my styling routine is way easier and less damaging and time consuming than this so I think you should give it a go. It's very simple, I wash and condition my hair, detangle before rinsing conditioner then I flip my hair upside down (I use a vinegar rinse here and idea don't rinse it out because I have hard water but you can skip that) and brush style in 3 horizontal sections, scrunch a couple of times (literally a couple) and plop my hair in a microfiber towel for about 30 mins and remove the towel and let it air dry. When it's completely dry, I smooth over a good thick cream to smooth out frizz and give shine and that's about it, sometimes I use oil instead of the cream if I want my hair to be lighter but the oil doesn't last as long. It's very easy to do for me and takes no time compared to other styling methods (doesn't take more than 10 mins of handling in total other than washing/conditioning). The reason I apply the cream after my hair dries is because it dries way faster and I didn't have a diffuser (got one yesterday and haven't tried it yet) and I don't want my hair to stay wet for too long (if I apply through cream on it damp/wet) because it's damaging and weights it down. Since the cream makes the hair slightly damp again, it's good for smoothing the frizz. You can experiment with your favorite products but I usually only use a cream or oil (or a lil bit of oil after the cream especially on the second day) because it's easier and works well for me. Might sound like a lot since I mentioned all the little details but actually doing it isn't much. Hope this helps!
As a mom of three (the only one in the house with curly hair) , I've been doing this for years without even knowing there was a name for it. I do slather my hair in leave-in if I know I'm not going to style it right away. Although, since watching you're videos, I've cut back and have made more of an effort to tell my family, "it's Mama's wash day. Don't bother me for a few hours." I've noticed a HUGE improvement in my hair's health, shine, and bounce.... I am exhausted though afterwards. I have arthritis and my hand cramps even in the shower when detangling.
I'm a teen, but i can imagine how exhausting it can be to be a mom and you have my full respect. But you also need some time for yourself once in awhile!
She's funny/fun, she's pretty, she's smart, she's got heart. What a role model. The world is lucky to have you, Mell xxx
Glad you mentioned who this could work for.. as someone with a chronic illness, I do this on occasion because the washing alone takes about an hour and styling will add another hour and I'm already exhausted from showering.. usually I'll wash during the day and style before bed but sometimes it get styled the next day - especially if I'm doing braids or something more than a basic style 😊

this is my preferred method tbh. i have incredibly short hair so styling after a wash day (which is almost always Sunday) ends up being a waste of a good hair day bc i end up having nice hair for 3 hours before bed and then all the volume and curl gets weighed down and squished out over night (even with bonnets and satin pillowcases) bc my hair is pretty much only roots. so styling the next day or whenever i leave the house next works better so my hair looks nice when people will actually see me lmao
Mine is shoulder length wavy and does the same thing. 😁
Same here! Exact same problem
Yesss I never had this issue when my hair was long (very long) and now that it's ALOT shorter (a bob) this happens to me
Makes total sense!
Mell, I seriously don't know what I would do without you. You have changed the curly hair game for me and so many other people who watch your informative, extremely helpful videos. I feel like with each video of yours that I watch, I gain new knowledge that helps bring my curly hair to the next level. I've remained a mostly silent subscriber for the past few years, but I seriously just want to thank you so much. My hair has never looked better and it's all thanks to you!
I may have to try this! As someone with chronic fatigue syndrome, showers can be exhausting, so I'll often put off my washday for longer than I should because I don't always have the energy to wash and style.
I love this technique!! As a loose wavy with fine and low density hair, this ends up saving me a lot of time. Breaking up the washing and styling is also helpful because I have toddlers so I don’t get big chunks of time to myself 😅
I always put a leave in conditioner to help protect my hair before air drying though and I don’t do it very often!
I've always been curious about this!! I personally have to style right away, even though it takes a few hours it's easier to schedule and avoid taking hours for my hair to dry (and rewet)!
Like a lot of the other curly folks in the comments I really love/need this method because of chronic illness and just how much my wash days can take out of me. I didn’t know this was a whole method with a name! But when I do this I use a nice hydrating leave in conditioner right after my wash to coat and protect the strands. Then I put my hair into two braids, let it dry somewhat, and then put on my satin bonnet to further protect the delicate strands. My hair drys decently quickly so sleeping on a wet head isn’t a problem for me and I find the benefits of styling damp the next day amazing too. All in all a great method for me personally and if anyone else wants to try it out but avoid unnecessary damage these tips I mentioned could be really helpful!
I was doing this technique for years with meh hair days. It wasnt until I found your channel that my hair started looking amazing and got so much healthier. Constantly wetting my hair was the biggest issue my hair had. I wont be doing this, I'm good!
But I appreciate you breaking it down and making me realize your path is the only one for me
Perfect timing! I'm a new mom and baby doesn't nap long enough to do the full routine all at once! You have answered all my questions. 💜
Happy texture Tuesday 😘❤️
💜
Hi 'Manda! We luv you! 💕
Happy texture Tuesday Amanda ❣️🙌🏽
Yes , that’s amazing, because after prepoo, wash and deep conditioning is like you spend the whole day in the shower, thanks girl
Omg yes this. I often simply don't have the energy to finish the full routine.
Yay! Exactly what I needed. I never feel like styling immediately.
I love that I had to learn to care for my hair before youtube had a real curly hair community. So seeing videos like this just reinforce things I had to learn on my own. It makes me feel like I did a good job figuring things out on my own and glad to know someone else has access to the information without having to go through the awkward hair phases I had to go through.
It's been very interesting to see other perspectives in the comments. I'm incredibly low effort/lazy/what-have-you and have higher density, fine(ish) hair that's pretty healthy, and this is a nightmare for me. If I don't style immediately, I won't until the next wash day. All or nothing, bay-bee!
I'm with you. Both halves take quite a bit of time for me, and I wash twice a week. I wash at night because of how early I already get up in the morning & so I'm not being bothered by my youngest. I need to get all done & not worry about it for 4 days (sometimes a week in the winter)
I feel you there- I had to get up unreasonably early for an old job, and morning person I am not. My hair also takes 800 years to dry, so I cannot fathom getting it wet twice
Can we take a hot second to say how cute you look in pink! Wouldn't mind a microfiber towel in that colour 😊
Mell I just want to thank you I have been dealing with brain surgery and an auto immune syndrome and your advice on my hair ahas helped me so much for the first time I 30 years I actually now how to manage my hair your help as been invaluable 😘😘❤️❤️❤️
FACTS 👏🏼 FACTS 👏🏼 FACTS 👏🏼 Thank you Mel for giving us real knowledge to empower us to make truly informed decisions. Love you and Amanda! xx
I am chronically ill after Covid. I’m going to try this. Sometimes it’s hard to do it in one go. Thanks Mell.
Happy Texture Tuesday!! I've always been curious about this. I have fine low density hair and not alot of time with little ones running around lol. Def will be trying. Thanks so much for all you do!! Much love and happiness!! xoxo 😘
Thank you so much for validating us who have limited energy!
Hi Mel. Thanks for all the great info. What I find easiest for me is to wash and style the night before, then when I get up in the morning I’m pretty much good to go for several days. Saves me so much time in the morning. There may be a curl or two that I need to refresh each day but that’s it!
I like how you give options and curl types when trying things and saying who you think it’ll work for. Your new color looks amazing and I can’t wait for a review on those bars 👀👀
This is excellent! I used to do this daily until I learned from you. (I have apologized to my hair. I didn’t know better.) Both then & now, when I have to wait, my scalp gets oily. My hair is such a mess. I’ve tried both spray bottle & rinse. Rinse is way better. Spray bottle saves time overall, but makes it a bun day. For me, this gives me iffy results. Even when I rewet it, my curls go limp & lack definition. Desperate times sometimes call for it, but I like my hair much more when I style as soon as I can.
Thank you for remembering people with disabilities. 💜 Sometimes, by the time I’m done washing, my body says it’s done, so it’s a style later day. Very few people think of those with disabilities when describing pros & cons. It truly means more than I can say, and I can rival you when it comes to talking. 😂
Very helpful, especially about the hygral fatigue and color loss! Also super entertaining! ❤
Looking forward to the color care video. Just got my hair highlighted again after 8 months and would love to learn more about caring for the color as well as my hair.
That last part was hilarious 🤣 thank you for the information. Now I know why my hair has thinned out throughout the years of washing it so much. I used to wash my hair every single day when going to college.
Mel, you’re absolutely a sweetheart!! Always informative but down to earth delightful. I always look forward to you being you at the end. 👍
Thank you so much for watching ♥️♥️♥️
I'm so glad you have processed hair that starts from a dark color so I have someone to use as a guide to keep my hair healthy. I also have nearly black hair (got that thycc Italian black hair) but love my fashion colors, and I'm going grey which is super obvious cos my sparklies are straight up white, so now I'm slowly transitioning into steel grey and silver lowlights to make it look tidier. It's really pretty so I want to embrace it, but the random short scraggly white hairs look a little weird right now 😂 I'm just really glad you show that curlies can still experiment with their hair and not lose their pattern, and with pretty minimal effort at that.
I also realize I kinda do this sometimes. I might skip a step from my wash n go, and then do a slightly more involved refresh the next day. Depression, ADHD, and just not wanting to sleep with wet hair or having other things to do means not always getting my hair right the first time. I'm relieved to see it's not causing damage 😂 and I can attest to losing color with this method. My product rinses out rainbow whenever I do it, but I also tone my deep conditioning treatments so it never fades too badly.
Thank you always for your content! I love this when I just need to wash. Or check my hair balance. Styling is always my nemesis 😊
Your hair looks amazing without any product. I personally loved it.
This is great to know about in a pinch. I’m 5 weeks post op for my dominant shoulder and my wash days are taking me over 3 hours with drying. Breaking it up would really be so much easier for me for the time being. I’m trying this on my next wash day!!
I love the suggestion of a video to help color last longer, ways to protect and care for color treated hair. This video was extremely helpful and informative. I love your channel and depend on your expertise. Plus you are so cute, beautiful, inspiring and fun to watch.I would watch for the entertainment value alone...but I need and crave your advice. 4 years wearing my hair curly, and you have helped me every step of the way. You are the only one who has the facts and can be totally trusted. Thank you, and keep being awesome you.
Perhaps Danielle made it more known to the masses but I wouldn't say she truly coined this method as I have never seen any of her content / knew who she was until now, but myself and a few other curly haired women have been doing this for years (mixed in w/styling straight after washing too which I still personally prefer) ! & as always, love your amazing content! Love how you go into the science of it all 😍👌🏼
Mel always coming in with the videos I need!!
This is super helpful, thank you. I'm disabled. Sometimes I just can't do it all at once. Or sometimes I rely on a support worker (who I have to train how) to wash and then style my hair, and I might run out of time in the shift. Knowing that I can go back in and do it (rather than just chuck some leave in in and get the worker to braid my hair and call mu curls a loss for the week), it's really helpful. Also, I'm really grateful that you mentioned disability. Most abled people forget disability or chronic illness exists (see one very not well thought out joke at the Oscars for proof of that)
I was happy to see this video. I've just started doing this because I have RA and it's difficult to do everything at once. I wet my hair under the faucet, it takes too long with the spray bottle and it styles better when it's wetter.
Can't wait to see your review on the as I am shampoo and conditioner bar🤩🤩🤩
Love curlyfitmum and love Mel! Two in one ♥️♥️
I didn’t know this was a thing. But I’ve always done my hair this way. And it works for me.
Great vid! FYI Mell, I think your pink shirt's straps are supposed to cross over.
This is great timing for me! Tomorrow I needed my natural curls but can't wash my hair because I got my lashes done and can't risk my face getting wet, so I'm gonna try this tomorrow.
Never been so excited for Tuesday!!!!
Thank you so much, Mell! I've been curious about this and absolutely required your input
Happy I could share ♥️
DANG, MELL!! You’re hair looks amazing after this routine! I agree with you though: My curls can’t handle being dried without all of my products coating/moisturizing/protecting them as well. It feels SO dry and brittle, it literally pains me to feel it like that…it’s like the hair version of nails on a chalkboard 😂😂
I think that just means your hair isn't healthy? It shouldnt need products to not feel like that
Thank you so much for talking about this technique! I have fibromyalgia and sometimes I’m too tired to do it all at once. This is very helpful information
LOVED THIS ALL! I learned so much! You are amazing sharing the science: I need that serum!
thanks for all the great information as always!! I love watching your videos and absolutely love your personality!
As a curly hair mom with a 3yr old and 1 yr old. This is my go too!! I get to wash in the evening around 830/9pm and then style the next day. I absolutely love Curly Fit Mom!!!
Convenience in the season is what does it for me!
it makes me so happy to know my fav CZcamsr is from my own city 🥺❤️❤️ much love x
This is great! I tried this. Few times on my high por coarse curls & it never worked… i had to soak my curls in the morning so it didnt really save much time… and it never came out well! Now i know why! Thanks Mell, your a treasure ❤️
I'd l love a color care video!
Edit: i come for the video and knowledge, and i stay for the bloopers! Mel is so funny!
Love that top and the copper tones on you , you look stunning also THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO i have used this technique a couple of times but tried to avoid it due to hygral fatigue which i concluded from a previous video and like you i apply a leave in and then style thx to your tips I don’t let my hair air dry without some sort of cream or hydrating product anyway I did wonder what your thought on this routine would be and im glad you shared , also PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS LIKE THESE I FIND THEM THE MOST HELPFUL
I love how you spit out all this knowledge but the bloopers is what I enjoy the most! Love ya!
Bloopers video coming soon 🤣🤣💖💖
I can’t wait!!!
Mom of 4 boys, working full time, definitely energy efficient lol this one is what I do 😉 thanks for your input Mell ☺️❤️
You are great at explaining, some day I hope to be able to come to you and have my hair done by you! Keep on keeping on! ❤️👍🏻
Love your videos and all the information but really, best part is always the bloopers 🤣🤣🤣 gotta love them!!
i love the coppery situation. your hair is fire!
Precious infos as always 🥰
😂 You are such a doll, taking one for team tight curls lol. I could never justify trying this method. For all the reasons you just explained. Dry and scarry 🤣💀. This video entertained and solidified things.
Same here! I'm actually surprised anyone wants to do this!
We don’t have the same texture but I trust you Mel! Thank you for your help! 💛😊
This doesn’t work for me unfortunately. Once it starts drying, even re-wetting again doesn’t really work for me. I wash and style at night. Or style and plop overnight.. I like a little extra cast, so sleeping on it after styling and drying gives me, personally, better results the next day and I count that as my “day one”
I also don’t have time to style in the morning. I have to do it while baby is asleep or my hair would NEVER be styled. Lol
same, if i don't style immediately there is no coming back from the mess that ensues until next wash day, lol. i actually tried it earlier this week by just wrapping it up with product in in a microfiber towel and it was...not good.
Agreed. This does not work for me. I've tried it and...no. Generally I am the same: wash and style at night and I also leave a little bit of the cast and put on my silky cap. Morning is pretty easy: scrunch and fluff and we're done lol
i recently transitioned to this style, and as someone with a lot of frustration over how long doing my hair takes, it's a godsend. I have wavy, coarse, medium porosity, medium to dense hair btw
I noticed your skin is getting better😍
Omg, i has used This without knowing!!!!!!! And the first time i used grapeseed oil before sleeping… just for listening and Watching you!!! But i do have mixed patterns, low porosity no my crown and high porosity no the base Of my scalp…. But i do have low energy….. grettings from Mexico!!!! I really appreciate you and your CZcams Channel content!!!
I see you using the leave-in conditioner bar. Can’t wait to hear your opinions 🥰 I actually went to check their site and it is sold out as well as their conditioner bar.
This was very interesting! I don’t do it very often but it’s good to know it’s an option for when I really cba 😂 I’d be interested to see you try Sophie Marie Curly’s flip section method - that has been amazing for my fine low density hair!
Hey girl! I love your videos, soo inviting and fun to watch, plus great tips
I just wanted to say I’m finally gonna dye my hair in may! I’m nervous but so excited!
Not just great video, your hair color looks fabulous! 🧡💛
Such a great video!!!! Lots of things to consider here! Every time I've tried this, I just put it in a ponytail and dare anyone to comment on how awful it looks. I never do the style later part. 🤣
This is the only way I can actually style my hair. I have a neuromuscular disease, so even showering is something that takes me out. There is no chance I can style it the same day. I can't even use a hair dryer because I can't hold one up.
Two nights ago I put my hair in a pineapple after showering and had a rough day the next day, so I didn't even take it down til evening. I'd put leave in conditioner in it after my shower, but nothing else. It looked amazing! I had ringlets, it was soft and tangle free, everything I want when I actually style it.
Sadly, it didn't have much hold in the problem areas, so I'll need to re-wet and style, but I was impressed. I'm 50 and my hair only started curling about 5 years ago, so every time I do anything to my hair, it's a learning experience!
Lol! I have always wondered what your hair looked like w/o any product! Thank you for another great video 😘
I say just wait till the next morning to wash. Every time water evaporates, it's drying out your hair. It's like licking chapped lips. They get more chapped.
I love all your videos! But I just wanted to say thank you because I’m learning so much about the actual hair strand in itself. Thank you sooooooo much! I was frizzy but now I’m freeeeeee hahaaa
Lmaooooooooo the turning heads part killed me. I’m so glad you stopped and took a moment to laugh about it 🙌🏼👏🏽❤️😂😂😭😭😭
Finally Tuesday is here❤
TUESDAY GANG💜
@@ManesByMell curly gang🤣
you always know what videos we need lmao!!
i try!!! 💜💜💜
Love your videos so much ❤️ will you consider doing a follow up review on k18? I'm seeing a lot of great reviews on it.
Love your tutorials 💜
Glad you like them!💜💜💜💜💜💜 thanks Lisa
That's so weird! I've been using those exact 3 stylers lately! I love them! Sometimes I use their volumizing foam with it too! I had no idea the plastique should go on BEFORE the re:coil though! I'll have to try that next time!
I occasionally use this method. One of my fondest memories is sleeping over at my Grandma’s. She required a bath and shampoo before tucking me into bed with clean sheets. So occasionally I repeat this process but add a very emollient rich leave in. My wavy hair is ok with it and my soul is renewed.
Hey mell! I've been following you for a while and I love your personality and advice!!
I've been using all your tips for volume but for some reason, my roots are always flat after a few hours. I have a loose curl with lots of fine hair, but Im running out of ideas😅
I love your videos. This was very helpful. Thank you
I'm telling u that Mell is doing some witchcraft. Me starting another semester with no time to style i started doing the wash now style later. Thanks cuz ONCE AGAIN i need this video
So interesting! I’m a Zumba instructor and most of my classes are at night; and I can’t stand going to bed with dirty hair…But I have fine, coloured, dry hair, so all the risks that you mention make sense. Probably I should just put a bonnet on and wash in the morning?
You seesters are doing such a great job, keep going!
Hahaha…yeah, no entanglements 😬. Great video as always! 🤍
Look forward to every Tuesday video!
I 💟 texture Tuesday! While I don’t think I will be doing this now, it could be a good option for summer when it’s pool time. It’s hard to style after
🌞+🍹🍹Thank you, Mell! 🕉
Happy Texture Tuesday ❤️❤️❤️
Happy Texture Tuesday Beautiful Lynzi!!💜
Your skin is looking amazing
I have fine low density 3b hair and have washed now styled later a few times. I had no problems with tangling or knotting by air drying. That's because I moisturise it well with my conditioner which I always riinse completely out. Over both days it takes more time but if you don't have time for full regime on evening, it's useful to leave styling to the next day.
Mel your outfit, I love it 🤩🔥
Thank you 💖💖
Thank you for another great video! I actually do this a lot. My low porosity curls and coils react better to me styling on damp curls!🥰🥰
Btw your hair is stunning per usual.
I love that for you ♥️♥️
@@ManesByMell Thank you! Do you have any videos on smoothing coarse curls? 😳
I wish I had known about this routine before I had my surgery. It was really hard to do everything after having my bicep tendon moved... 0_0 Thank you for the review of the method.
i literally discovered this method by accident when i showered at night recently & left my hair down & fell asleep, then refreshed & styled my hair the next day. it’s the nicest my hairs looked in so long 😭
I use the wash now, style later if I don't have time. I put my hair in braids, knoe idea if that's the right way, so this vifeo is perfect!!! Did found out my hair likes it better if I style right away after showering so I mostly wait till I can shower and style directly
Mell, I love your videos. I was wondering if you could please do one regarding ingredients that are damaging when used with warm water.
Hoping to see you review the new CURLSMITH MIRACLE SHIELD!!!
Before I cut my hair short, I did this all the time! my hair always looked better when I styled it in the morning but I never had enough time to fully wash and style in the morning so I used the wash now style later method.
