Very true but the games biggest issue is being half arsed from the jump. If you want a tag game, make it an actual full tag game not this weird and restrictive kameo system. Now even if there was potential to get the MK community to enjoy a tag game, they've ruined it for a very long time by doing this. The single player content and customisation is also half arsed compared to 11, the issues on launch, lack of features, PC port as usual is awful and more. Also as much as people like to pretend they aren't, the animations are terrible in NRS games and the better the game looks graphically the more jarring it's becoming.
@@allbieskameos aren't really a help to the game. They are only useful for blocking, assist with combos and basically a distraction to stop being predictable to players.

I have been a fan of MK since I was a 90s toddler in pull ups. I've seen it all with this series. It pains me to say it, but MK1 is the only mainline entry I just straight up didn't play after like two monthes of it being out. Like you said in your last video, the passion is just gone with MK1. I can't even make myself pretend to enjoy it. Something is missing. You aren't the face of MK hate, you're the only MK player with a platform actually calling out the bullshit with this garbage game. I hope you keep calling it out because nobody else with a platform has the spine to do it. I'll be playing Street Fighter 6 or literally anything else until we get MK2 or Injustice 3.

IMO Tom unfortunately has something akin to resting whining/complaining voice. Unless you recognize it's just the way he talks and accept it, and it's the content of what he's saying that matters, it can feel like there is something about the way he describes things or talks about them that makes them seem negative/sarcastic or that he thinks he knows more than you. Some people get asked "why you mad" for similar reasons, where they just happen to speak loudly or use certain terms. Edit: Not to say he never complains.
He also got told by numerous top level pros that he was playing the game wrong and he wouldn’t listen.. No game is perfect, but most people refuse to look in the mirror.

A lot of people hate on SF6 and T8 but those get drowned out because the number of people that like those games outnumber those who hate them, so you don't get a lot of "stop being negative" sentiments there. If MK1 were truly as liked as the defenders claim it is, then these "hate" channels shouldn't even be getting any attention.

Quit trying to apply DEI to everything Mk has always been a diverse cast of characters. It’s low hanging criticism with very little actual critical thought put in. Trust me DEI only gave us artists good laughs while we were painfully building these meaningless products for endless hours overtime. Fighting games are boys games and boys like to idolize male heros. That's a fact. I loved watching those warriors fight (original mk on genesis) and inspired me as a kid, not these un-memorable roster of characters whom we didn't ask for while compromizing on our favourites characters. For me the fact that this game did not have Jax was enough not to even try it. And appearantly that's not the only problem this game suffers from. No amount of gameplay change can fix this game, this game lacks character and it's flatout boring.
Wanna know the real problem is the team started to view the cast as superheors and supervillians and it needs to get back to a darker sadistic tone, way too much influence from injustice games
I saw headline, "Sonicfox dominating at EVO" and I was like, hmmm, wait, let me guess... Homelander?" Boom. Homelander. The new pay to play DLC MK character who clearly has an incredible advantage over the entire cast and the best MK player in the world is using him and the best pay to play kameo and everyone's like, "Wowwwww... he's so goooooood!" And he is! But this isn't a game that was made by people (NRS) who know how to make a competitive fighting game. It's a game made by people who know how to SELL fighting games. Superheroes sell, but is this an engaging experience watching Sonicfox do this over and over again? I'm losing interest. So is everyone else. EVO numbers reflect that.

Of the top of my head the most funny thing is not being able to tag your moves on practice which was in mk9 on release, no king of the hill or rooms aswell which both was in mk 9/X and 11 on release.
I don't really like Mortal Kombat. I played 2 and 3 a bit, waaaaaay back in the day, in the Arcade and on the SNES, mostly because my friend and his 2 older brothers really liked it. Haven't touched the series since. I'm more of a Street Fighter guy, someone who casually enjoys watching online Tournaments now and then. I don't have a horse in this race. I'm never going to buy a Mortal Kombat game. But even I can see that MK1 is getting *absolutely destroyed* by SF6 and Tekken 8 (and arguably a handful of anime fighters). As a filthy casual, I find MK1's gameplay to be stale and uninteresting and repetitive and not really any fun to watch. It still has a lot of the janky, stiff, awkward animation problems that MK9/X/11 and the Injustice games did. The Single Player modes are underwhelming at best. Tom isn't "hating". There's this thing called "constructive criticism" that the internet either doesn't understand or likes to conveniently forget about. He clearly wants to light a fire under Ed Boon's ass so that the NRS devs can fix the game's myriad issues before it's too late to salvage MK1 in any capacity - although it may very well be too late for that already. I'd much rather see an MK1 that excels in areas that other fighting games don't, because that puts pressure on all future games (and DLC for existing titles) to step up their game. Competition keeps the scene healthy and breeds competition, because if you don't keep up you're going to be left behind. A huge series like Mortal Kombat dying slowly helps no one, and no one who claims to be part of the FGC wants it to happen.
The people who ENJOY Mortal Kombat are the ones defending the game with their lives and calling people haters. But the people who LOVE Mortal Kombat are calling a spade a spade and being real about the game's flaws and NRS' incompetence. That's the difference here, do you enjoy the game or do you love it?

"Netherrealm then plans to balance custom abilities" Something that just NEVER happened due to them stopping support shortly after unlocking the variation system, which led to the absolutely stale meta that continued with the constant Fujin, Jacqui, and Kabal matchups in high level tournaments. When support for MK11 ended, I said multiple times, that "in the dark" lack of communication between NRS and their consumers would continue and it did. If you look across WB games, they all have a track record of this same stuff. This is why I never bought this game. It didn't look good and didn't turn out good either. Everything pointed to a potential bad product and everyone who is still defending this game are in flat out denial. NRS deserves some blame here, but again, WB has not had a great reputation in sustaining their games. Both in practice and in communication. I would love for NRS to get out underneath the WB umbrella, unfortunately if WB continues to be their publisher, the games are gonna continue to suffer this fate imo.
I actually appreciate all the complaints because you articulate them very well and you're not like the others who treat mk1 like there 1st born child. me and my friend paid 70$ for this game and i kid you not, we have play no more than 30 games together since its launch. whenever we suggest a game to play together mk1 never comes up unless we're trying to play a different game each time. i really thought id be investing hundreds of hrs in this game since i loved mk9 and X but man, i havent felt so duped since strive. i dont do day 1 purchases anymore.

MK1 seemed rushed to me because Street Fighter 6 was on schedule and testing was very positive for that game. So much hype was also surrounded by NRS trying to get a Marvel vs DC Crossover game to happen. If I remember correctly Street Fighter 6 released test version almost a year before official release, MK released test versions in a shorter time, around 4 months before official release.

Every NRS game gets a ton of hate, even the ones some claim were the “peak”.. Every game being wildly different means you’re always going to have a bunch of people who don’t like it, if every game had an “MK core” and didn’t deviate away from it you’d have a core player base who like it and play MK because they like MK..
I remember Tom being excited to play MK11 subzero with the ice puddle when they annouced custom variations, and then getting backstabbed by NRS at the last minute because the puddle was banned. Really it was a "roman empire" level of treason.

Custom variations is the biggest fraud in NRS history. Base characters stripped of all their power and the custom moves cant even complete them properly. I've been a fan of mk since the days when it first came out owned all of them I bought mortal kombat komplete edition on ps3 I held off of mortal kombat xl mortal kombat 11 ultimat and mortal kombat 1 to see how the games would turn out I just recently bought mortal kombat 1 premium when it was on sale for steam then I bought mortal kombat 11 ultimate and mortal kombat xl I like mkxl and mk11 ultimate better than mk1 but I'm sure mk1 will continue to get better I'd like to have stage fatalities animalistic friendships and babalities eventually mortal kombat 1 on steam is very laggy in story mode it crashes on the endless tower in towers mode it also crashes in the invasions mode when your in a certain spot in the tarkatan base camp ive even noticed that some combos dont connect still

Very true but the games biggest issue is being half arsed from the jump. If you want a tag game, make it an actual full tag game not this weird and restrictive kameo system. Now even if there was potential to get the MK community to enjoy a tag game, they've ruined it for a very long time by doing this.
The single player content and customisation is also half arsed compared to 11, the issues on launch, lack of features, PC port as usual is awful and more. Also as much as people like to pretend they aren't, the animations are terrible in NRS games and the better the game looks graphically the more jarring it's becoming.

People don't even know that you wrote the definitive guide for MK9. That app helped me tremendously. I also remember you doing love streams back then with another guy that covered different characters. It was before it's time. Many of these people weren't even around then. I have been a fan of MK since I was a 90s toddler in pull ups. I've seen it all with this series.
It pains me to say it, but MK1 is the only mainline entry I just straight up didn't play after like two monthes of it being out.

IMO Tom unfortunately has something akin to resting whining/complaining voice. Unless you recognize it's just the way he talks and accept it, and it's the content of what he's saying that matters, it can feel like there is something about the way he describes things or talks about them that makes them seem negative/sarcastic or that he thinks he knows more than you. Some people get asked "why you mad" for similar reasons, where they just happen to speak loudly or use certain terms.

I remember how excited and happy you were in the first few months in MK11. Then you went through the five stages of grief.
He also got told by numerous top level pros that he was playing the game wrong and he wouldn’t listen.. No game is perfect, but most people refuse to look in the mirror.

A lot of people hate on SF6 and T8 but those get drowned out because the number of people that like those games outnumber those who hate them, so you don't get a lot of "stop being negative" sentiments there. Fighting games are boys games and boys like to idolize male heros. That's a fact.
I loved watching those warriors fight (original mk on genesis) and inspired me as a kid, not these un-memorable roster of characters whom we didn't ask for while compromizing on our favourites characters.
For me the fact that this game did not have Jax was enough not to even try it. And appearantly that's not the only problem this game suffers from.
No amount of gameplay change can fix this game, this game lacks character and it's flatout boring.

The new pay to play DLC MK character who clearly has an incredible advantage over the entire cast and the best MK player in the world is using him and the best pay to play kameo and everyone's like, "Wowwwww... he's so goooooood!" And he is! But this isn't a game that was made by people (NRS) who know how to make a competitive fighting game. It's a game made by people who know how to SELL fighting games. Superheroes sell, but is this an engaging experience watching Sonicfox do this over and over again? I'm losing interest. So is everyone else. EVO numbers reflect that.

Of the top of my head the most funny thing is not being able to tag your moves on practice which was in mk9 on release, no king of the hill or rooms aswell which both was in mk 9/X and 11 on release.

I don't really like Mortal Kombat. I played 2 and 3 a bit, waaaaaay back in the day, in the Arcade and on the SNES, mostly because my friend and his 2 older brothers really liked it.
Haven't touched the series since. I'm more of a Street Fighter guy, someone who casually enjoys watching online Tournaments now and then. I don't have a horse in this race. I'm never going to buy a Mortal Kombat game.
But even I can see that MK1 is getting *absolutely destroyed* by SF6 and Tekken 8 (and arguably a handful of anime fighters). As a filthy casual, I find MK1's gameplay to be stale and uninteresting and repetitive and not really any fun to watch. It still has a lot of the janky, stiff, awkward animation problems that MK9/X/11 and the Injustice games did. The Single Player modes are underwhelming at best. Tom isn't "hating". There's this thing called "constructive criticism" that the internet either doesn't understand or likes to conveniently forget about. He clearly wants to light a fire under Ed Boon's ass so that the NRS devs can fix the game's myriad issues before it's too late to salvage MK1 in any capacity - although it may very well be too late for that already.
I'd much rather see an MK1 that excels in areas that other fighting games don't, because that puts pressure on all future games (and DLC for existing titles) to step up their game. Competition keeps the scene healthy and breeds competition, because if you don't keep up you're going to be left behind. A huge series like Mortal Kombat dying slowly helps no one, and no one who claims to be part of the FGC wants it to happen.

It’s not the best game but people act as if they were forced to spend money on it.. Everyone willingly bought it and knew what they were getting.. There are some features that should have been in at launch and are still not in but other than that it’s fine really.

Something that just NEVER happened due to them stopping support shortly after unlocking the variation system, which led to the absolutely stale meta that continued with the constant Fujin, Jacqui, and Kabal matchups in high level tournaments.
When support for MK11 ended, I said multiple times, that "in the dark" lack of communication between NRS and their consumers would continue and it did. If you look across WB games, they all have a track record of this same stuff. This is why I never bought this game. It didn't look good and didn't turn out good either. Everything pointed to a potential bad product and everyone who is still defending this game are in flat out denial.
NRS deserves some blame here, but again, WB has not had a great reputation in sustaining their games. Both in practice and in communication. I would love for NRS to get out underneath the WB umbrella, unfortunately if WB continues to be their publisher, the games are gonna continue to suffer this fate imo.

I actually appreciate all the complaints because you articulate them very well and you're not like the others who treat mk1 like there 1st born child. me and my friend paid 70$ for this game and i kid you not, we have play no more than 30 games together since its launch. whenever we suggest a game to play together mk1 never comes up unless we're trying to play a different game each time. i really thought id be investing hundreds of hrs in this game since i loved mk9 and X but man, i havent felt so duped since strive. i dont do day 1 purchases anymore.

MK1 seemed rushed to me because Street Fighter 6 was on schedule and testing was very positive for that game. So much hype was also surrounded by NRS trying to get a Marvel vs DC Crossover game to happen. If I remember correctly Street Fighter 6 released test version almost a year before official release, MK released test versions in a shorter time, around 4 months before official release.

Custom variations is the biggest fraud in NRS history. Base characters stripped of all their power and the custom moves cant even complete them properly. Its like the plus size chips bag at the supermarket who simply hold more air in it.

The fact that people will just lable this as hate instead of usuing their god damn brain is beyond me. Hes been doing valid criticism on MK for years. But only now do people think hes being hateful. This isnt hate. Its valid warrented criticism.
Right before m k one dropped tom did a podcast saying he's hopeful for the future of mk and was positive about it. Nrs is not capable like the tekken devs

I've been a fan of mk since the days when it first came out owned all of them I bought mortal kombat komplete edition on ps3 I held off of mortal kombat xl mortal kombat 11 ultimat and mortal kombat 1 to see how the games would turn out I just recently bought mortal kombat 1 premium when it was on sale for steam then I bought mortal kombat 11 ultimate and mortal kombat xl I like mkxl and mk11 ultimate better than mk1 but I'm sure mk1 will continue to get better I'd like to have stage fatalities animalistic friendships and babalities eventually mortal kombat 1 on steam is very laggy in story mode it crashes on the endless tower in towers mode it also crashes in the invasions mode when your in a certain spot in the tarkatan base camp ive even noticed that some combos dont connect still
Imagine IF this new patch and the expansion make the game better and FUN again but we won’t know until it’s out cos NRS/WB still don’t communicate enough! It seems like they’re getting better at listening to us but we’ll have to wait and see.
I think people don’t want to see you complain no more. Like beating a dead horse. I’d rather watch you play a different game now and just move on form mk. If it’s not for you it is what it is play other games don’t waste time on game you don’t enjoy.

It’s a shallow version of variations which doesn’t work. Instead of there being 3 unique versions of every single character like in MKX, there are a handful of different total characters because they all rely on the same assists.
