The government is threatening it's citizens. The 2 Amendment was written by our founding fathers. It's a right to keep and bear arms.
Those were different times. Its main purpose was to defend against foreign invasions, due to heavy price of a professional standing army. Britain, in especial was a threat to the US, and 1812 showed how well the militias can be recruited.
But large guns are no longer necessary. The US rules the world. Having an armed population is a threat to the same population.
When many people try to use arms to force the government what they want, then it’s no longer a democracy, it becomes a tyranny.

The slave states wanted to keep the slave as property but count them as people in the census that is used to determine the number of electoral collage votes for the president and number in people the sate gets in house of representatives. The free states argued that a man is not property no mater the color of his skin and property did not count. The 3/5 compromise of 1787 was made to kept the nation whole and stable without it we be two nations weak and taken back by England, France, or Spain. That 3/5 clause ended up ending allowing the end of slavery in the USA by putting the freedom for all loving Republicans in power starting the civil war killing 600,000 people and freeing saves.
The 3/5 clause did nothing to help or hurt slaves it sound racist and cruel by today standers but it was quite the blow to slave states and the owners. We have slaves much longer with out it.
