Proud of Earl Scruggs, a son of Cleveland county North Carolina. Left that textile thread mill to pick with Bill Monroe. A legend that started with 3 finger roll "Rueben" tune.

I had the priveledge to meet him in 2011, shortly before his death. It was a sad occasion though because he was ravaged by Alzheimer's ....I pushed his wheelchair to the stage, where he would get up, walk to his place and take his seat. When the music started however, he came alive, and all was just like it had always been. It was the second time I'd ever seen him. Once with Doc and Merle, John Hartford, and his band in 1980,...THEN, this occasion. Full circle.

And yes, I remember them looking up to greats like George Jones, Conway Twitty, etc., and like George Jones (he wasn't a favorite of mine, but he did have a 'signature' voice. Looking up to Johnny Cash. And now I see the younger musicians with them and looking up to them! Every generation has this phenomenon., and I suppose it will always be that way!

I would love to see it again as an adult. There were many other greats performing but don't remember. I got to meet Porter Wagoner and Reba's back up singers. We watched Marty Stuart and Tanya Tucker on an Opryland stage. It was amazing. It was a hot summer and had gone on a water ride not realizing we were going to the Opry a little later. I was still soaking wet and wished I had a chance to clean up. It was amazing experience nonetheless!

Earl Eugene Scruggs (January 6, 1924 - March 28, 2012) was an American musician noted for popularizing a three-finger banjo picking style, now called "Scruggs style," which is a defining characteristic of bluegrass music. His three-finger style of playing was radically different from the traditional way the five-string banjo had previously been played. This new style of playing became popular and elevated the banjo from its previous role as a background rhythm instrument to featured solo status. He popularized the instrument across several genres of music.

It's rare for someone to look better in their late 30s than in their early 20s, but Alison Krauss really changed for the better over the next 15 years. Compare her appearance here to say her CMT Crossroads show with Robert Plant in 2008, in which she is truly stunning.

Never thought I'd see day where Marty Stewart did not have bigger hair than Alison Krause.

Don't know how I've missed seeing this episode of GOO TV until just now. I have been fortunate enough to see all these folks perform live on several occasions. Never all six together but do remember seeing Gill, Skaggs Stuart and I think Huskey Jr. on stage together at least twice. Have seen Gill and Stuart many many times. So entertaining! It's just a shame none of them ever learned how to play an instrument(s) very well.
