Welcome to my CZcams channel.
One of my main areas of interest is salvaging and preserving important moments in the history of bluegrass music. This rather large undertaking includes digitizing historic concert footage and audio recordings , collecting eyewitness accounts by interviewing various people in the industry - artists, promoters, fans, sound engineers, teachers, luthiers etc.
Over the last 30 years I’ve accumulated a substantial collection of VHS tapes of mostly bluegrass related content from countless different sources. These tapes are now deteriorating gradually and need to be salvaged. I share only footage/audio that is not available on the internet.
If you would like to support my efforts you can do so by going to the link below and check out my Patreon page.

It is a sign that you have hit the big bluegrass time when people refer to you by your first name only. Among the old timers we have Del, Earl, Doyle and Doc. Carlton is another name that could be added to the list. Lawrence Carlton Haney (September 19, 1928 - March 16, 2011) was an American booking agent, festival promoter, and songwriter primarily active in bluegrass music. Once dubbed “The P...

I miss his voice ....but here it is :-) ......I know he was a great great flat picker ...and even when he could no longer sing he pick ......but ,it was his voice I really loved .
Omg whats the name of the first song? My bluegrass era is taking off.
Gah man, stuff like this i just put my earbuds in, close my eyes and let the music take me away. Thank you for the incredible upload Jan.
I met the man after midnight in a truckstop in Waddy, KY. I'd just pulled in to this truckstop--43 mile east of Louisville, tired, need to eat before going to bed. Chairs were upside down on the tables. I came in and sat down. I got served food anyway. I looked up and saw this gentleman in a white hat. He nodded to me. Directly to my left by the narrow aisle, sat his bus driver. We all looked at each other. Nothing said. I ate, Ralph finished eating I was finished eating. We got up and met. I told eem I always listened to him and his brother, Carter, since I was 15 year old. We shook hands. I said, "Mr. Stanley, please sing as long as you can!" He said, "I will, ma'am." And he tipped his hat. We parted ways. I didn't ask for an autograph. I thought he gets enough of that. He was 74 year old then. He lived to be 89. I sing and Play their songs on my guitar today. In my house I don't want the attention.😊 e o ut &
hello handsome. Great video and toutor.
What a great sound. I’m embarrassed I don’t know this guy.
An important addition to the performance library of one of the very best bluegrass bands - ever, thanks Jan Johansson. John Duffey's arrangement of Darlin' Corey, especially as done on the album, is a masterpiece - gripping. Best heard with earphones, or over quality speakers in a very quiet space. So good it almost compels "repeat."
Lonnie Peerce is my grandfather. This is some of the most information I have been able to find about him and I appreciate that it is candid and honest. My father passed when I was young so I never really got to learn much about him
Anyone know which key his harmonia is in, during tom dooley?
Whenever there's a top guitar players list and Albert isn't on it I just call it a bullshit list.
Amen...brother...awesome...
Loved this guy!
Nobody does it like Tony.
Beautiful
This is so old, like 1990 or so, Albert is still touring but he gets tired
Injoying all of these Great Blue Grass players ❤
Love it, thank you all
Where was this filmed?
What a wonderful entertainer❤❤❤❤
Love hearing from the greats. Thanks Jan!
Tremendous, what a find!
Ráda poslouchám zpěv Keitha Whitley,je pro mě nejlepší zpěvák jakého znám ❤️
It’s close between him and Tony. Both belong on flat picking Mt Rushmore
Then came Bryan Sutton…..
@@user-nh3th5cx9n I’ve got Clarence, Tony, Doc and Norman. Those are my 4 founding fathers of flat picking. Of course you can make a case for anyone as this is my subjective list. That’s what makes it interesting. Everyone has their opinion which is cool.
Clarence rules the roost certainly for creativity and innovation… check out Nic jones for guitar virtuosity
@@user-nh3th5cx9n so many good ones now days. Billy, Bryan, Workman. Etc. when this started back in the 60’s- 70’s I’ll stand by my 4 earlier.
Kenny Baker was a young man once and a real fire baller.
Clarence
Dang son you go waaaay back. Your research is a heck of a lot of work and well done. Great post thanks…..I’m in sun. and liked.
nice to see a re strung guitar for a left and picker - It begs the question about Hendrix
Jan, brother you are the KING of amazing and historical bluegrass videos. I know I don't speak for myself when I say thank you so much for everything you do.
This is incredible!
This is absolutely Awesome!!!
And if what I have been told is right, J.D. is playing a banjo that belongs to Alan Munde.
I was lucky enough to see one of Johns earliest come back performances in early ‘92 at my first Bluegrass Festival ever because he hadn’t officially came back and wasn’t even scheduled or promoted to join them at the festival. Their other frontman (I think it might have been Lou Reid) was supposed to be performing with them. It was a magical moment for me at 18 and a young Canadian fan of bluegrass music. It was one of my first trip to the United States as well. Got a chance to talk to the entire band briefly over drinks. I was enthralled. They were such pro’s! Mr Starling even dedicated Through The Bottom Of The Glass to me for my birthday since it fell in the same weekend. A long time fan of his said they had never heard or seen Mr Starling do something like that for a fan. Warms my heart 😢
Thanks for the upload ❤🎻🪕🇺🇸
What a great crowd.
does anyone have the 2nd set?
not that I know of
@@JanJohanssonmusic thanks so much for the reply!!
@@dabneyoffermein595 please let me know if you get ahold of it...

Best picker ive seen live. My dad took me to see doc in davis California at Mondavi center in like 2009. He was old then amd still had it
Lou Reid was excellent addition!
Didn’t Nat Wilson write the banjo building chapter in Earl’s book?
Summer of 1977, not sure of the month.
thanks
Why does it Looks soooo easyyy... ? Cause you are looking at the best bassplayer in the galaxy ever lived😅
I'll remember what Oscar Peterson with whom NHOP had worked for 30 years, said of him: "Niels didn't just play bass, he wasn't just a great bass player, he was the bass".
Thanks for all your contributions Jan!
Thanks for uploading this, I was there in awe. Got to meet Tony and got an autograph and had a good look at his Martin. What a great day!!!
Today's country sounds like the B side of a record in the 59's
Slow just doesn't exist for this man.
