This is a fantastic tutorial, not to mention your incredible skill and prowess, why have I never seen you until now!!
Thanks so much. that means a lot! I don't know, I guess I just haven't made many vids until now.
I'm just learning taekwondo, and this drastically helped me improve my side kicks. I was having a lot of hip pain previously, which I am finding out was due to improper form. This is helping strengthen those minor hip muscles and remove any pain from the motion. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you! Many instructors have a hard time breaking down the side kick, and many students have a hard time grasping all the elements. So it can be helpful to have them all laid out like this
You are the best trainer I found on You Tube❤️❤️
The cup full of water seems like something Master Roshi would have done haha
Lol, agreed. For hammer fist I recommend swimming across a lake being chased by a shark and tilling a field with your bare hands.
No turtle shell?
Justin Chao my bad, of course a heavy turtle shell. In my advanced side kick tutorial I will suggest ankle weights to help add resistance to the side kicks strength training. so many vid ideas and so little time to put them together. :)
Probably the best sidekick I have seen on CZcams.
Thanks so much! The importance of proper form before drilling other elements is too often overlooked
I own a Martial Arts school in NYC 20 years TKD based and this video is amazing! Great job
Simon's technique is as near to perfection as I have seen. Thank you for the inspiration to improve my own technique.
Best tutorial I have seen for side kick technique. It really gets to the meat of the matter. Side kicks take a lot of work and will make you a way better practitioner of any martial art. I typically judge a martial artist's level of training from their side kick. Awesome video. Thanks.
thanks for the feed back. much appreciated! I totally agree on the importance of the side kick and its use as a litmus test.
probably the most important kicking technique of the striking arts.
Remember when the sidekick was underutilized in MMA? Now MMA fighters are incorporating the sidekick in their striking game.
This is my signature kick in sparring. I've caught so many people in sparring with this powerful kick.
Thx for this. The best explanation and tutorial I've seen in a long time!
Wonderful video. Thanks Simon.
One of the best side Kick tutorials I've seen 👍🤝

Excellent tutorial, thank you.
Good training.
Thank you! This video is brilliant! I had some trouble seeing the difference between a side kick and a turning kick from videos. Thanks for breaking down the steps and the tip about bringing my knee to my sternum, so I know how to do it right now! 👍

Awesome!!!
3.75 years ago I started TKD and as an extreme newbie posted a comment below about this vid and its exercises...which were great but seemed so intimidating. Well....last month I passed part 2 of my Black Belt test and will be receiving it in March. I've never forgotten this vid starting me out...its been a great path to this point(!) Kamsa Hamnae Da.

Gostei da dica !!!
Fantastic ...loved every bit of it. Thanks a lot.
+Avik Bhattacharya Thanks so much :) I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Great video. One more thing:. Aim your kick as though you want to hit the back of your antagonist. This way all the kinetic energy will concentrate in the center of his chest in the area of the solar plexus. If done correctly, there is no need to fret over arn position as your opponent will endure atelectasis (collapsed lung) and immediately fall into a prostrate position on the ground. You will then enjoy from 2 to 7 minutes of strategic hegemony vis a vis his opponent. One should only avail himself of this approach in situations where he reasonably apprehends he or a third party is in imminent danger of the threat of serious bodily injury such as being maimed, disfigured, disabled, or killed. Control the power, don't let it control you.
AWESOME!!
You explain it so clear & easy to understand. Thanks!
a pleasure. it is my favorite kick! :)

Simon Scher , thanks a lot for this fantastic yop chagi tutorial ! Amazing to see your high level of mastery ! you are so at ease , with nary a contraction on your face while executing the tough stuff ! Loved it and motivates me to go back to training. I got my Tkd black belt in '87. Thanks for your effort in sharing with us ! Cheers !

Charlotte Henry thanks :)
I like this tute. It's surprising how much one's sidekick can be improved with the right practice technique, mine used to be very sloppy now it's not too bad. I'll keep practising every day to try to get it like yours, thank you Simon.
+Tony Cook I'm so happy that this has helped you. Let me know how your kick improves.
It's a great vedio that i have ever seen in youtube with this kind of teaching thank you
My pleasure. I am honored you found it helpful
I need to try this I never thought about this.
This is how I learned to Side Kick. Really great video. Thanks! btw, your stretch is awesome!
Thank you so much! Side kick is so great and difficult and nuanced. I feel like it self one gets the attention it deserves. I am so happy you liked the vid and learned a similar method. Thanks for watching 🤗
Awesome tutorial! Subscribed!
+Romana Abramovna Thank you very much. I am psyched you enjoyed it :)

Jeez, you are bloody amazing.
+Jay Broadwood thanks. I appreciate you saying that. ego much :)
just saw only ths video of urs nd subscribed...its awesome
Thanks for emphasising the supporting leg position.
Very nice...
thanks
This is brilliant. Thank you.
+Maria Brydon Thank you. I am honored.
Great tutorial. Thank you ;)
+Anita Broczek a pleasure. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
GREAT video, really takes you from A to Z. I come from Muay Thai, but I think side step could be a great leg 'punch'. If you want to take it even a step further, try to bounce around your balancing foot while firing off side kicks. If you're a psycho you can do these while on a balance board or yoga ball (but seriously only professionals)
your tutorials are on point, always enjoy and put into practice
Thanks, I am really glad that they help! Best of luck in your progress. :)
you are the best
+james carl Palmenco thanks! That is something I enjoy hearing. Good luck with your training. Let me know if I can help
Brilliant.
DrivewithDamon thanks
Nice one
thanks
Beautifull kick.
thank you
great video, subscribed
thanks so much! I am honored.
Brilliant! Mad but brilliant!
Thumbed up & subbed - there is no substitute for quality!!!
i would like to add that if you are a gym member you can put the ankle attachment on the pulley machine on the lower setting) and do leg raises with weights, they're pretty useful.
I also have 2x5kg ankle weights (velcro closure) and they really help with developing kicking prowess, you have to make sure you practice without them though or they might throw your timing out a little, but they don't half improve the speed of your kicks.
those are some good points. I was going to put that in my advanced sidekick tutorial but my Gym was closed the day I was shooting and planning for those shots :( So I had to go without. Perhaps I will add them in a side bar. I am really glad that you liked my tutorial. good luck with your training.
nice Form!
This is a great exercise - one that I needed!
I'm glad that you liked it :).
This is a good demonstration of the Korean side kick as opposed to a Japanese side kick. Notice how the kicking leg stays parallel with the floor. Good job!
Osu! Your side kicks are super awesome! Thank you for the lovely video
spiceleo no problem. I'm really glad that you liked it. Side Kick is my personal favorite.
It's amazing how many people do this kick incorrectly!!
Well done on the tutorial 👍
thanks so much. That always bothered me, that is why it is the first project I started. I appreciate your feedback :)
Exactly what i needed!!
awesome! I am really glad that you like it! Good luck with your training.
This is the best side kick tutorial so far.
Thanks so much!
