    David Lee Roth was the original front man for Van Halen. When the band split there was a time where a lot of people who did and didn't like Sammy joining them were calling the band Van Hagar. Dave also released a solo album at the time with a young Steve Vai on guitar. It was an interesting moment in rock and roll history because the band was already as established as it was when there was a very dramatic split between Dave and the rest of the band.

I once heard him say in an interview that he really wanted to play the drums so bad that he took on a newspaper route and saved his money to buy a set of drums. He continued his paper route so he had money , and while doing so his brother Alex got so good on the drums , that he gave them to Alex, bought a guitar , and created his own playing style ( tap harmonics ) . One of the very best rock songs of the '80s by one of the very best rock bands of the '80s. "Can't Drive 55" was made after David Lee Roth, the lead singer of Van Halen on "Jump," left the band and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. As far as I'm concerned, Van Halen became just another loud rock band once Sammy Hagar joined them. Most of their best songs were all done before David Lee Roth left the band. Eddie Van Halen, the dark-haired dude in the yellow top who played the guitar solo in this song, is considered one of the great rock guitarists of all time. Sadly, he died recently.

    @muzikman4399 Před 3 lety +7

    As has been said, this is David Lee Roth the original frontman for Van Halen,after about a little over 10 years of success a rift developed between David and Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Not really sure of the circumstances but IMO David started believing the hype and got too big for his britches thinking VH couldn’t get along without him and the band disagreed and they split apart. VH took on Sammy Hagar(Hay-gar) and kept right on rocking, the flavor of the music changed but was still good, David had a short lived semi successful solo career and basically dropped from the music landscape, eventually Sammy and VH had their own musical differences and Sammy left and David rejoined the band. Eddie Van Halen can be touted as the G.O.A.T but again the title is subjective, “ to each his own” so there will never be a complete consensus as to who the GOAT is but Eddie ranks right up there with Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Prince, hell the list goes on and on with too many great guitarists to name them all and why worry? Just be thankful we’ve had all those greats to listen to through the decades! 🤘👍😎✌️

    Great reaction. Van Halen is up there with my all time favorite bands so I really feel like I dropped the ball on you for this one. I was one of the ones spouting off about listening to VH before Sammy but it didn't even occur to me that you didn't know about them having another vocalist. My bad, let me make it up to you with some VH essentials..
    1. Eddie the guitarist and Alex the drummer are brothers. The band is named after them.
    2. David Lee Roth is the original vocalist. He was trained in martial arts and used a lot of that in his performances.
    3. VH were massive through the 70s and 80s and pretty much changed the face of rock with Eddie's innovative guitar playing. He is easily on the list of top 3-5 at most guitarists of all time, and has been voted #1on a list of top 100.
    3. You don't really get to appreciate his abilities in this song because it more synth oriented, being released in the 80s.(Eddie is a classically trained pianist and self-taught guitarist, which is pretty mind boggling when you see what he can do) It is probably their most mainstream song of the Roth era and it has been in movies, commercials, games..I'd be surprised if you never heard it.
    4. DLR is known for his dramatic flair and being one of the best front men in rock. Sammy is no slacker in that dept. Also very high energy and the better vocalist IMO, but...Dave is Dave. He brought a certain something to VH for sure. Sammy joined in 86, this song is from 84.
    5. Watching Eruption solo, live without a net performance is absolutely mandatory for you to understand why EVH is considered a rock/guitar God! I see a few people have dropped links already.
    6. Great VH video choices- Hot For Teacher, Panama, Running with the Devil with DLR. With Sammy on vocals (also known as Van Hagar) Poundcake, Dreams, Right Now, Finish What You Started. There are so many songs of theirs that are before the video era so there is a ton of audio I recommend. Mean Streets, Intruder/Little Guitars, Ice Cream Man, Ain't Talking Bout Love are a few.
    7. Sammy's name is pronounced with a long A. 😊
    PS, I've been singing Radar Love for 40 some years. Get used to it. 😂
