My guess is Tavares already has or is willing to waive his NTC and is being showcased at the Worlds to help raise his trade value providing he does good in a spot maybe (Playing along side Bedard) just my opinion

Robertson is the 2nd scoring threat with jets behind only Matthews. It's a mystery Keefe didn't put him on the top 6 and in fact needed scoring bench him on game 7. lol

I like Nick Robertson, he needs 2nd line minutes under a new coach & a good line mate to work with. He's got talent, just needs a chance.
His handling was the only complaint I had with Keefe.
The problem with the NMC is that the players will only give a short list of teams where they would accept to be traded to. Those teams are probably the usual cup contenders and don’t have cap space. So if they want to move on from JT. They will have to retain a significant portion and will not get much in return.
Robertson needs to be a 2nd line LW.

No one wants Tavares. Any offensively-challenged team that doesn't make the playoffs wants Marner to make the playoffs.
Marner is the 12th leading playoff point scorer in the close to 100 year history of the Leafs. He is going nowhere.

@@johnsummerhill8323 doesn't matter. You can't have 4 players making 8-digits. He's the only realistic one that can go - either this year or next. And Tavares next summer. Then you use that $22M in a bunch of different assets - at least 3, probably 4 of them.

Both have to go if possible keeping Marner & Tavares means running it back at what point does insanity work it doesn't.
I get the fact they both have a NMC but if they agree to waive you have to get all you can for both!
Keeping 1 doesn't help them come playoffs it will be rinse & repeat come April/May if 1 or both are still on the team.
This team needs a major overhaul too much soft players who aren't willing to do the dirty work.
Majority or half this roster needs to be turned over.
Keep the young players & Matthews & Nylander are signed longer-term so they are staying but the Leafs aren't going anywhere unless they get a proven #1 goalie & 2 top dman at least.

Regarding Robertson, I totally agree with you that he is a 30-goal player, if not next season, then the one after. I think he is a 20-25 goal player next season if we give him more ice-time per game.
At this point I don’t care who they move someone has to be moved or they will have the same result next season they need a goaltender they need better defensive
Keep Jonny T. He was one of the few forwards who competed physically. Plus his family is rooted here, he's made his fortune. If you try to move him you will have to take back salary and throw in a first rounder like they did with Marlow. Bad deal for the Leafs. As for the rest, you have to look at comparable's out there, their age and asking price. No use evaluating the current rosters in a bubble. Yes we need a first string goalie and a stud D-man but you have to look at what's available and interested in Toronto. You can say all you want what Dubas paid for the core4 but without asking what they could have signed for elsewhere is pointless. Leafs are in competition with low tax, sunny/warm American cities for talent. That's a huge factor. Nobody is dying to come play for the Leafs anymore. They have perfected the art of choking for 8 years straight. The logo hasn't been worth a bag of pucks since 1993. Who the heck would want to come here unless they are into self abuse or big money.
Try Marner to UTAH for 3 first rounders. They have the cap, need to put butts in the seats, provide high level entertainment and make the playoffs. Marner fits the bill perfectly and gets his baby face out of the harsh Toronto spotlight.
Try to resign Bert and Dom or similar UFA's out there with balls to long term deals.
Try to resign Lyubush and Edmonston or similar UFA big tough stay at home D-men.
Try to sign a #1 goalie and a top pairing puck moving D-man.
That's my to do list for Tribbles.

The Leafs have no idea of how to develop players. Robertson much like Lindgren needed more time with the Marlies but constant promotion and demotions have ruined his development.

I'm surprised you think you can Trade Tavares...even if he does waive his NMC, the leafs would have to pick up $6 million of his cap hit. Also we pay him $7 million on July 1 so his salary for the year is only $900K. Can you replace his mins for a guy $900K and a min of keeping $6 million of the cap. Marner is the guy that must go...period the end
I completely expect them to either run it back, or trade JT and sign MM for $14. Completely dysfunctional franchise. Shanny should have been fired when he gave Dubas the job. Disgusting!

Tavares performs in the playoffs. Plus Tavares has 1 year and he will sign again for 2 years at 5-6 million.. He is not the problem, the contract is the problem. Marner is a liability and afraid of the PWHL.

How can you feel bad for a player who made 10’s of millions already got injured which sucks but was still pad his contract what they made in one year sitting injured is more than we make in a career! John Tavares waiving his NMC to allow a trade is a pipe dream. There are two obvious problems with such an idea in why would he do it and who would take on an $11M cap hit for that declining player? Tavares will play out the final year of his contract as a Leaf.
All of Connor Dewar, Timothy Liljegren and Nick Robertson should get bridge deals and be used as potential trade chips. Max Domi will likely be signed but Tyler Bertuzzi will likely be too expensive for the Leafs current cap situation.
Like it or not, the core four all have total trade protection for next season and will likely all return.
As for the goaltenders, the Leafs are clearly looking for a tandem partner for Joseph Woll and they are also looking for a 3rd stringer with NHL experience. The have three in-house UFAs to choose from in Matt Murray, Martin Jones and Ilya Samsonov.
I agree that Jones is the preferable option for the 3rd goalie slot but he may have other ideas, while Samsonov is not suited for the job. This might be a role for Murray at the right price. Murray will have limited options and it may be his best shot at returning to the NHL.
I'm not 100% on board with saying goodbye to Samsonov. Regardless of his ugly stats, an NHL goalie with a winning record has some value and despite an upgrade in net being an obvious team need, the market may not comply. At the moment Sammy is sadly one of the best off-season UFA options, which suggests that the trade route is how the Leafs will find a goalie.
There are other things that need to be addressed as well. For example; will the Leafs carry a part time defender on the roster again in Conor Timmins? Is John Klingberg done?
Then there is the unknown of will any players in the pipeline earn jobs such as Fraser Minten or Dennis Hildeby, to name just two? I just hope that Brad Treliving is up to the task of rebuilding this roster.

Im not a fan of Robertson's game at all, hes a weak skater always falling which pisses me off seing that from a so called NHL player... However he can score so I do agree with you in not letting him walk

I agree with everything but Betrtuzzi. For his game and salary, I would rather find a bigger body.
Mathews traded to Rangers for Shiesterkin. Who is more valuable in playoffs? Rangers could afford Mathews. MATHEWS goes to U.S. where he will end up after his contract expires. Leafs get best goalie in league. They win all playoff games 1 - 0. Win the CUP.
You will need more than a goalie for Matthews but I do think Matthews could be persuaded to waive his NTC in order to play in the US.
Andrew, lastly you mentioned to keep Roberson...yes this guy will get 30 goals in the future but are we building a team for the regular season or the playoffs...he's too small and this GM wants to be bigger in every opportunity. If you want to get great players in a trade, Liligren and Roberson are the two that need to go. How do you feel about a Marner for Crosby deal...both teams would benefit.
Domi stays.. I say 3 years at 4 million per season. I would also sign Bertuzzi foe the same contract.. Keeping them both and saving 500K per season
