RoboCop Longplay (Arcade) [4K]

- Developed and published by Data East in 1988
One of the greatest 80s action movies of all time, RoboCop is an absolute classic. It received numerous video game adaptations, many developed by Ocean Software, who had acquired the license to do so. When it came to the coin-op, Data East had to secure a license from the British software developer, which is why Ocean is credited during the game's attract mode.
The arcade game is a fairly by-the-numbers side-scrolling shoot 'em up, but the best thing about this, for me at least, is the main Robo character sprite. The artists managed to convey a huge amount of detail in such a small sprite, creating an extremely convincing pixel-art replica of RoboCop. In fact, it was so good I used to think it must have been digitised!
Despite having longplayed the game several years ago, I thought it was time to do a new version with a higher upscale (4K).

I remember this was one of the loudest arcade games back in the day. You could hear Robocop's holster noise from 20 feet away.
Yeah I forgot about how loud it was.
Every RoboCop arcade I saw always seemed to have a horrible screen, you could badly see anything if not at just the right angle.

Yup the only thing I remember about this game is that voice saying ROBOCOP lol
@@coolbluelights "Drop It!"
I like how the arcade cuts to the chase and puts Robo up against ED209 in the first level.
That was super intimidating for 8 year old me and that was exactly the point, Data East knew how to craft an experience
I mastered this game at age 17. I used to do "no hit" runs. 100% every bonus stage, complete the entire game without taking a single hit. And I always perfectly managed my big gun so I always had enough shots to take out every boss in less than 2 seconds.
Really good game. One of the best arcade games ever.
Yes, according to experts it was one of the top arcade games of 1988, having to compete with Ninja Gaiden, Ghouls and Ghosts, Altered Beast, Cabal, Super Contra and that monster called Tetris.
Best game ever
I agree with you. In top 10. for sure.
@Tristian Gunnar we don't give a shit so fuck off
@Tristian Gunnar VIRUS ALERT!!!!!
Nostalgic!!! Remember my childhood days in the arcade… watching the “lobos” that’s how we call the guys that are masters at games. And few years later I got to be one of them.
This was in every Mexican Restaurant back in the day. So much memories.
My little brother would play this for hours while I sat at the arcade and watched. Then we would go have breakfast at the hotel. Such good times.
Playing 2d games as a kid actually made u a smarter faster reacting person in the real world, they were tough as hell to beat and required constant timing of jumps increasing our real world reaction times in certain situations,it has me.long live old school gaming👍
Fat kids think gaming is exercise lol
The music, the sound effects, brilliant. I have my doubts that even if they did, "drop it". They still would have met the same fate!
It's all about due process, right? 😅
Man nothing like the old days.😢😢😢😢
Thank you for your cooperation.
It's really good to see you again, Murphy!
"I'd buy that for a Dollar!"
if only they put that in the game somewhere...
It would have been cool if they could have. In the arcade game, "Smash TV", the commentator would randomly use that line when the player traveled between rooms.
Ive been saying that linr for yearssss hahah
I wouldn't
Thank you for your cooperation. Good night
I would always hear him say “Drop It” when my family went out on bowling night and the arcade was right behind us
Played this game at the skating rink back in the day, brings back so many memories!!!
I still love the sound effects.. really cool the metalic sound when he grabs the pistol
This one is classic. I love the background of downtown Detroit. It’s so well made
Used to play this at the swimming baths back in the day. Combat school and Trojan as well. Great days
I spent years thinking he kept saying “CALLING!”. It’s such a compressed sound file, realised now it’s “DROP IT!” 😆
Actually sounds like 'comming". LoL.
To me it sounded like goblin 😂
I thought he said "roger"
Data East had me loving everything from the side.
One of my favorite games from the 90s i use to finish the game with one quarter, and had a crowd of people behind. Brings back good memories when I was a teenager..
Should should be dlc or preorder rerelease bonus for the new game that comes out this year. what a gem
“Can you flllllllyyyyyy, Bobby?”
Used to always hear "Drop it" no matter where i was in the arcade 😂
I literally owned this Arcade machine when I was a kid and I played it all the time for years
The best RoboCop game! Great playthrough!
Amiga RoboCop 2 or RoboCop vs Terminator is the best RoboCop game
What's up RoboCop
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
awesome performance. It brings my childhood memories.
I will always love the robocop series
“Dead or alive....your coming with me”😁👍
Awesome. Great watch. Good picture and sound quality.
This is one of my favorite arcade games ever.
The first Arcade Game I got to play the first time I stepped into an actual arcade without any parents near.
I'll never forget the summer of '88.
I loved this....it was always one of my go-to cabinets :)
When I was a kid at the arcade it used to be very dark in the arcade for some reason RoboCop intro and altered beast used to scared the living shit out of me
Wow 👏, this took me back to the arcade after high school. I don't 🤔 remember how many quarters I dumped into this game to finish.
Q baita jogo lindo, a musiquinha original do filme + gameplay q lembra o sunset riders, as animações bacanas, show de jogo👏🏾✌️🏾
I love how they marketed an ultra violent, rated R movie towards kids.
Seams like dying enemies say “shit” ;)
It wouldn't surprise me, because in the film they said 'f...' a lot! 🤣
Uff la animacion de defenfundar el arma se ve bestial, me encantan estos juegos en 2D. Definitivamente una epoca dorada de graficos
One if my favorite arcades. coincidentally watching the movie at the same time as this video lol
This doesn't do justice to how good the graphics were, you need to see it in a CRT screen to appreciate it. Of course this is the case for all old games, but Robocop specially had amazing visuals.
I remember seeing this arcade game as a kid and being confused by RoboCop having such limited energy, given he took hundreds of bullets from badguys in the movie! 😂
I mean he also punched through 2 men and made them explode. Maybe he put all his power to his fists.
I did play this arcade back when I was a kid, awesome arcade!!!!!!
After more than 30 years I see the end of this friggin game
I remember being able to beat this game with one quarter back in the day. Good times.
I really like that they use the movie’s soundtrack on this game.
this arcade is amazing 🤘
"Drop it!".. No one has a weapon.
Yeah Robocop didn't age well or never has with its storyline making cops look like heroes compared to what's going on in the US.
I like that you can pretty much fit the entire development team inside a minivan.
Many ppl like these kind of old games coz they brought back childhood memories which cannot count in monetary terms
I remember playing this at 7 eleven when I was 8 years old I'm San jose CA...resembles Shinobi and sound effects similar to that game and strider which was right next to that machine back then
Great quality transfer!!
The zx spectrum conversion of this game was one of the best ports ever made. Put the likes of outrun and afterburner to shame.
If I remember these games that are hard to forget and pass their levels, I remember having passed all the levels ganswar, superman, golden axe arcade games. I love them for the memory
Boy all those quarters I had to save up playing this game in the arcade 😂😂😂😂😂 good memories
Nice! I also used to be able to finish this on one credit back in the day.. you do a few of the earlier stages slightly differently than me. Vital to get the 100% on the 2 firing ranges!!
These days I struggle from the OCP stage and can't usually finish it!
Loved this :) along with Rygar, one of the few arcade games I ever managed to beat
I have a longplay of Rygar recorded - stay tuned....
LUCKY! I COULD NOT BEAT THOSE GAMES!
Hah great playthrough, never saw anyone in the Arcade get past level 2.
I remember freaking out at the graphics when this came out on coin op. Still love neo geo games.
Love the arcade versions of my 2nd favorite Basil Poledouris film score.
This brings back memories 🥺
The late 80s...Dragging my Dad to the Chip Shop on Brixton Hill, just so I could play this game. I didn’t even want any chips 😄
Classic Vertical shooters!! I like
Robocop kills 30+ people leaving no survivors
> Robocop: "Thank you for your cooperation"
Sir you just killed everyone
Very good! 👍
That’s why I didn’t go school back in days to play this on amusement 🤣🤣
This was my first arcade cabinet that I bought and restored.
Where did you get the cabinet graphics?
@@bcast9978 From a company called Arcade Lords. It went out of business in late 2001.
Would be nice if the Nintendo Swich brought this gem to its console. Would be sweet. Since we are seeing a lot of retro arcade games coming to the Switch.
Orion Pictures will probably want to be paid a big (huge) license fee that Nintendo doesn’t want to pay 💰
Used to stop at the local corner store that had this and complete it before heading to school. Then they got Empire City 1931.....that was a tough game to master but a great challenge. Then a little later the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game came on the scene. Places for FOUR players on the one machine. *Mind....bloooown*
After a fair amount of practice (specifically learning how the game worked). I was able from then on to beat the game on a single quarter.
Same bro, and I got a fair degree of respect for it too as not many could do it.. it's damn hard on the last 3 stages.
It's beautiful i have 42 year's old and i was play it when i have 8... in pub of friend's parent it's very cool to see that again thx! and sorry for my bad english i m french ^^
2:01 Thank you for your Operation.
When I was 12 years old, I would help wash trucks at my friend's fathers job for $20. We would go to 7-11 right afterwards, and I would buy a slice of pizza and a Big Gulp and play this game.
Dead or alive, you're coming with me!
I remember as a kid the corner store that was below me had this and every quarter I got I would use to lay this game lol
That punching noise. Mega
35 years later, still the only good RoboCop game. Robo vs Terminator on Sega was a solid effort.
I watch this game, hear the sounds, and suddenly it's 1989 and I'm at a rest stop on the Ohio Turnpike waiting for my dad to get our Roy Rogers order....
I love this arcade 😢
I actually played this game on my laptop once to celebrate his guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 11. Fun! But it was hard as hell! 🔫🤖🚔
how can I play this? do I need an emulator? thx
@@samsungnote8365 I played it on Retrogames CC and Playretrogames.Com. It only works properly on Google Chrome. Any other web search engine it will not work properly.
В 1988 я жил в СССР и даже не подозревал о существании таких игр и тем более такой графике, а робокопе я даже и не слышал. Но в 90-е я всё настиг :)
Robocop "you are under arrest " .... Girl said " thank you " .... Robocop said again " your under are wet " Anyway ,it's one of my favourite arcade game 👍👍
"Drop it!" (at a sentry gun) xD @18:02
The best Robocop game of that time!
Al8 you're also the perfect player.
I remember as a kid i would play this arcade for hours in my local chip shop :D great memories :D
GOOOOOOOOOOOOD GAMEEE BROTHEERR
Robocop: *shoots a clip at the president, and kills the enemy with his fist.*
President: "Nice shooting son!"
1:44 - that voice always freaked me out as a little boy.
У робота демонический голос. 👹
ED209 - “PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON”.
Nostalgic
Straight classic
amazing game
Kills everyone “ thank you for your cooperation”
The soundtrack and atmosphere of the game were scary for me. I was a kid though! But still that opening soundtrack scared me now!
For 1988 this is spectacular sone people were still playing the c64 at that time
Robocop: Looking for me?!
Leon Nash: Don’t touch me, man!
Robocop: Clarence!!!
My first game in sega genesis 16 bit in 1994 😂 ,i really like this game 👍
Like the soundtrack.
Amo este juego!!! Lo amo!!!
I remember being about 12 and spending £2.60 feeding this 20 pence pieces in the Isle of Wight (UK). It felt like I had spent my life savings and been playing for hours, now watching it back I think I got to around the 7:20 mark D:
