    A person who has a garage full of tools is not called a tool "hoarder". They are called handy, and talented at fixing & making things.

    I love how much John supports your crafting and builds/fixes your wheels and adds storage to really help you prosper! He truly wants you to be happy and have what you need to be happy. When my husband helped me fix my first (secondhand) wheel when it was having issues it made me feel so loved, because it really showed that he supports my crafting.

    Elvis is a sweetheart.
    So I think that the wooden one looks like a Venus, because it's beautiful. The last one, the small one Cupid or Eros, cause you can fall in love with it. And the other one is a Poseidon, for heavy duty...😊

    I have some bobbins that make more noise than others, and I take a little circle of felt and stab it onto the shaft of the flyer. It helps!

    My suggestion for the gossip wheel is Cathy, because you can be chatty while spinning with a friend. Or maybe name her after the miller's daughter/ queen from the Rumplelstiltskin fairytale, since she is designed to spin flax, which would be the "straw" in that story. A quich google didn't come up with her name, so maybe an old-fashioned German name like ??? (Ethel was my German grandma.) I may have my husband watch the part about the electric wheel John made. I was given A sewing machine in a table. There is a lot of rust on the machine. If the motor is in better shape, perhaps she will be wheel #3 in my herd.

    BTW, I have 5 wheels. One is a Betty Roberts wheel which I bought because it's beautiful and she's not making wheels anymore. It's a single treadle so it feels kinda awkward for me. It also had a very firm treadle that pivots in the middle not at the heel. I also have a Lendrum Original, Saxony and Espinner, and a Matchless. I feel like there may be a Minstrel in my future. And maybe a EEW. I may have a problem...

    Beautiful wheels! I have some catching up to do, haha. My nano 1 is Arachne, my eew 6 is Beatrice (my grandmother's name) and my Minstrel is Charlotte. If (when) I get a 4th wheel it will probably start with a "D". I can see the history oozing out of the gossip wheel and it makes me want to touch a wheel that has been spun on for decades to see if any inspiration transfers. The Daedalus deserves a cool name like Joan Jett especially if it's fast and you think it's a rockstar. Maybe i will go that route if I ever name my spindles. Hugs for the doggo situation!

    I recently read that using different battery packs can be risky for Daedalus motors unless you have a cable that's specifically a 15V limiter. Otherwise I think the batteries can overpower the motor? I'm not sure; just thought it might be worth mentioning since that's a serious powerhouse of a battery. (Going to get one for my car, so thanks!)

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  Před 7 měsíci

      Since I'm using the power supply it came with a a normal plug in cord, it should regulate the power going into the motor on its own just like it would with a wall plug, but you definitely can't just use a different voltage input on those motors.

    Question for your Q&A video : I am a new drop spindle spinner and struggle with getting loft into my yarns. Some are very ropey which I understand may be overtwisting. But how do I get air trapped in the fibers to make the yarn more fluffy and less dense? I just finished a new beanie which is great but very weighty rather than fluffy and weighs more than it probably should. Guess I will use it during very cold snaps.

  • @januarymoon1984
    @januarymoon1984 Před 7 měsíci +2

    I have a question, have you dabbled much with drop spindles and what are your thoughts on them for beginners?
    I tried a drop spindle first like a lot of people, but struggled with it, almost gave up the idea of learning to spin.
    Fast forward a few months and I bought my first wheel around September/October last year. I got the Ashford Traveller 3. For me, I found it was the one that was affordable (but not the cheapest), easy to get, and had features that I could grow into and experiment with as I developed this new skill, but simple enough to use for a beginner and I've been loving it. Learned a lot and come a long way in a few months. I feel like some creators push a narrative (whether intentional or not) that beginners should start with a drop spindle. I feel like if I didn't go through with getting a spinning wheel I would've dropped this hobby.
    I also want to say I love that you show the different options for the different equipment that people may have access to and don't say one's better than the other (thinking mostly of your blending videos). And when you give an opinion it's to say what you prefer and how you like to do something, and usually give examples on alternatives.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hi Sarah! I started with a wheel and got a spindle later. I truly didn't begin to like spindle spinning until the last year. I have talked about this before a few times.
      I think a lot of people push the drop spindle because the barriers to entry are just so much lower because of cost and space, etc., but I don't think it's the best route for a lot of us. There are different options for everything partly because we're all different. What's best for one person isn't best for everyone.
      Being completely honest, I also believe there are a whole lot of people currently giving advice and presenting themselves as experts without enough experience. It's so hard to know from social media, so I've learned that if I'm going to get advice and recommendations to question their experience first. There's room for everyone, but not enough transparency about experience level.

    Hi Trish! I am looking at that little electric wheel by Dreaming Robots, I can afford that one and it seems competent, esp if you have decided to own and use one. I am new to spinning wheels, previous experience is all on my tahkli drop spindle. Would you sell me on this one, and why? I hope to make the Q&A in person, thank you Trish!
