- Video showing my installation of a straight hand rail section using TRX vinyl railing from a company called Polyrail. Hopefully my experience will help someone doing something similar. This is my first video attempt, so sorry if I left info out. Give me a like or subscribe if this is helpful and you want more videos!!
Good job young man. I am honored always by youth who can tackle constructive projects and not a life of video games.
Thank you, I appreciate the support!
Some good hints, thanks for the info.
Great video! Good tips too. I'm doing my railing tomorrow and found this video really helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! Good luck, let me know how you make out!
Great video and drawings! This just made my project easier having all the proper dimensions to meet code for a new vinyl railing install. I have a concrete porch and poured two 5 1/2 X 15 inch steps over the original single step. After sixty years the original steps sunk leaving the top step over 9 inches!
Thanks! Just seeing this now as I’m planning on getting back to CZcams and making videos! How’d your job come out?
Despite what some have commented, I like that you don't ASSume anything and you measure and level the top and bottom rails and clamp it off to be certain. While I'm installing AZEK railing, which is more pre-built, these are some good tips. I'd like to see how you measured and installed the stair railing, as that is a bit more challenging. Thanks!
Hey thank you very much! Unfortunately I didn’t record the install of the stair railing as I was still just testing out this whole idea of posting on CZcams (sorry). I’ve been working on some new stuff and hoping to post more. Again, I appreciate you!
To push the snow through solid advice rite there !!
Your not taking anything for granted and getting it right
See everyday i ln earn something been doing carpentry for 40 years ..and
There is always a better way
That is inspiring,
Appreciate it! There’s a lot more skilled people out there, just figuring out what works for me and hoping it can help others. I learn so much from CZcams, just trying to give back!
Thank you for the advice/ tips
No prob! Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support. More vids coming soon!
Like the was you did those treads. Nice work
Thanks, much appreciated!
The blueprint is great
Thanks again!
Nice great way to do it
Thank you! Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support. More vids coming soon!
This came out looking great. I’m almost done mine and it is identical. Similar size and same material as colors. Wish you would of showed how you did the trim as that looks great too and I might try that. Also wonder how much this cost you a year ago. With lumber prices I’m up to about $850 or so.
Yea I was up there too. I want to say I was still in that ball park said and done! I’m just starting to get into the CZcams thing, I wish I would have documented everything myself! Thanks for the support!
What kind of chooses blade do you recommend cutting the vinyl with ? I got a 10” Ryobi compound miter
The more teeth the better for cleaner cut. I was using a 12” blade with 60 teeth I believe.
Thanks for the tips. How did you get that finished look on the sides? Specifically the vertical lines.
The white boards (azek)?
@@coutes12 I was wondering the exact same thing. Is all the trim Azek? It looks like the structure is pressure treated and then the “stringer” on the side is also Azek and just cosmetic? Same with the risers? The look is pretty much exactly what I wanted and I also want to use Azek but I couldn’t picture it all in my mind until I saw yours.
Yes that’s exactly right, full structure is pt and then I just trimmed it out with all azek (stringer, skirt, vertical boards, etc). I used the little screw/plug combos to fill the holes.
Any pics of the build you could share? Like how you framed it all out with azak
There is some on my Instagram “dirtyhandsinitiative” if you scroll to the bottom and then click and scroll through the pics. Hopefully that helps.
Good work!! Where did you get those square skirts from?
Thanks! The brand and model was digger specialties inc., Polyrail TRX. A local supplier had all the components stocked.
Dirty Hands Initiative much appreciated!!
Nice do u have a video of u doing the stair railing
I did, but the phone I recorded it on got destroyed (sorry). I was going to remake a video doing the stair railing when I do my back porch. I’m still new to this whole CZcams thing so trying to figure it out. I appreciate the sub though. More vids to come for sure.
I am looking to build something very similar. Is there any way you have a copy of a more detailed drawing giving more dimensions?
Thanks.
I’ll take a look and see if I still have the draftsight file. The software was free at the time I made this video but is not any longer as far as I know. May be able to do a free trial though. If I can access it I’ll send it over.
So I was able to locate the file I had saved. The problem is I can’t edit or clean it up for you because draftsight is no longer free. I used autodesk trueview to open the file. It will let you take measurements off my drawings. Let me know if you’re still interested and I can send it to you.
Do you have a video on how you installed the skirting?
Unfortunately I don’t. Was one of my first videos, didn’t document the whole thing. My bad, trying to get better on future projects.
Hey, what is the software called that you used for the drawing?
Draftsight, used to be free, now I think it’s a free trial.
Can you please share the name of the software you mentioned, it was not clear to me. Thanks in advance.
Draftsight was a free software when I posted this video. I used it to do 2d drawings. It’s no longer free but you can download a trial for free. I’ll let you know if I find anything else comparable for free.
love your weirdo dog :)
Haha thanks. Me too!
@:27 homedude said DRARING (drawing) LOLOLOLOL
Lol I’m from Boston area. I don’t realize my accent until I see my own videos and comments like this! Thanks for the support!
What did you use to install the posts?
4x4 posts lagged into framing and Simpson brackets against concrete. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support. More vids coming soon!
Hey i just put trex composite on my porch floor. Can you give me a tip how to put the 4x4.
Hey, mine run through the framing of the porch but If your putting it on the deck itself they do make base post brackets.
@@coutes12 thanks for the advice brackets weren't stable enough. Had to connect the 4x4 to the porch frame
How do you install the 4 x 4 posts to the trex?
The posts run all the way to the ground. Framing is attached to it. Trex is cut to fit around the post and then the vinyl railing is just a sleeve that sits over the trex.
@@coutes12 thank you.
Hey no problem! Thanks for watching my vid, I appreciate it!
I'm hoping someone can answer this. Were going to replace the wood stair and porch railing with vinyl railing. Don't know what's better, the PVC or Composite? Please any info would be appreciated!
How did you secure the 4x4s to the deck
These run through the whole deck and are secured to concrete.
@@coutes12 another way would be to block them underneath, especially if the rise was higher.
What is the drawing software? You said it so fast I could not understand
Sorry, draftsight. It used to be free, not sure if it still is.
Just cut the top rail same size as the bottom rail. No need to clamp stuff and put balisters in
This assumes they are exactly plum which I have found you cannot assume - I've had some off as much as 1/2", but YMMV I personally never trust anything
Dog with glasses cracked me up
Awww why’d he call the dog a weirdo?
She’s the best weirdo!!
How much did that cost?
It’s been a little bit since I’ve done the project but I want to say like $2500-3000.
Less you, more dog!
I will talk to her
Cable rail
Gulfport
More dog plz
She’s the safety officer
And all of s sudden the posts were there you never showed how you fastened them !!
Lol sorry, first vid, I should have done the whole build. I promise I’ll get better as I release videos!! The posts are part of the framing they run all the way down to the cement and sit on top of footings. They are attached to the framing with lag bolts.
I agree. Plus it would be helpful to know the railing brand as fastening looked easy on this brand.
Too many details for stairs railing
Thanks for the feedback!
why are you hide to buid the post
above he noted he sunk the posts into concrete .. you could also block them underneath - see videos for "critical connections" for a good explaner
Sorry, I’m not great at making vids yet lol. I have them going down to concrete and attached them with Simpson strong tie brackets
She kinda a weirdo lol she loook cute
Lol
Hey, what is the software called that you used for the drawing?
draftsight. not sure if it's still free (maybe trial option)
