ToneX is a freaking marvel! I'm amazed at what they did... IK Multimedia has just created a game-changer imo. Messing around with the captures is like being a kid in the music store all over again!! I can't possibly see how this product can not be used to record professionally. I'm continually AMAZED by how freaking good it sounds and how naturally reactive it is!
I captured a spider in the back of my Fender Princeton. That's as close as I will ever come to capturing anything.
😂😂
I wish you luck on one day letting go of the resistance and capturing a good idea even though you don't want to!
Get with the times or get left behind
😂😂😂
I have a mouse nest in the back of my Marshall. Haven’t been able to capture any of them…
I downloaded the free version to noodle with. Wasn’t sure what to expect since I don’t mess around with desktop stuff much. I loaded the Black Angus preset and was really impressed but the volume out of my little studio monitors wasn’t quite enough. I remedied that by hooking up the Line 6 power-cab and wow!!! I could swear there’s an actual 800 in the room. That tone is the best thing I’ve ever heard out of a modeler. It is better than anything I’ve ever coaxed out of my Helix, and I love the Helix. I guess I’m about to start messing with desktop stuff now.
This sounds like an 800 in the room, just incredible.
Listening over a decent pair of AKG headphones, I too had that impression. The thick sound that just sounds so much like a real amp in room. Huge dynamic range and no digital harshness. Just great harmonic juicy sound.
Listening to you play almost makes me believe in that rubbish people spout about ‘tone is in the fingers’. You got SOME fingers dude! ❤
Its not entirely rubbish. Its just not literally the amp tone that people are speaking of. It is more about expression but those kind of things can colour your sound in a more generalised sense. Especially with cleaner tones.
Yes that was a good demo, lots of nice tones. Yes, IK Multimedia's download Manager can be somewhat confusing, but their account creation can be down right frustrating.
And I thought it was me..... I eventually just gave up. Why on earth would they make the doorway to their products so inhibiting ?
its really not that hard
@@M-15-72-4 fr, I had no issues at all
I've been having alot of fun with ToneX as well, it's impressive how many different models they have available.
I was persuaded that they bought your technology, or use the same AI…
@@notalkguitarampplug-insrev784 It's probably very similar, but no, I don't have any affiliation with IK. My code and the code it's based on has been open source for awhile and under a permissive license so it's possible they borrowed from it. I'll gladly accept any royalties! ;)
Dude you are an excellent guitar-player! Some really nice runs going on there, and your control is pretty flawless! Kudos bro! Subscribed!
That’s very kind Richard, you should see the outtakes, you might change your mind. 😉
I agree great runs I have nicked them for my own great player
These Tonex presets sound great. I just spent some time trying to copy some of the best presets with my line 6 HX stomp. Frankly I got the same results… BUT I had to add some EQ and compression here and there, nothing special. I did those clones with my studio flat monitors and my studio flat headphones, they are really almost identical, just a very tiny EQ difference, but same quality, same greatness.
The paid versions capture software does a very good job of capturing (I think it does a better job than the Kemper or Quad Cortex) though you need a pretty powerful PC to do the training.
The only warning is the capture process works better on Windows with an NVIDIA gpu (as a lot of the AI modeling is done off a GPU) so it can take a looooong time on some systems. I have a 4090 so advanced training takes 20-25 minutes, but people with 3060s get about the same amount of time.
It also has Amplitube 5 integration (might only be in paid), which gets you access to a ton of effects, overdrives, and rack units to use with your tonex models so I'd recommend that too.
If IK releases a floor unit like Quad Cortex or Helix I can see this getting a ton of traction.
I make most of my captures with m1 ultra :)
It’s faster to train than the capture.
Gadgets or no gadgets...he's pretty good this bloke.
You crazy train you... great demo. I really liked the Soldano. Tasty playing for sure.
I have the Max Version….. The Dumble capture is amazing
Agree. Those captures are worth the entire price of the Tone Max software alone! And when you buy the ToneMax it automatically unlocks the IOS iPad/iPhone app versions of Tonex Max!!! Huge savings! I'm using Tonex Max on Mt iPhone and on my Pedalboard to play live!!! Such an amazing time yo be a musician ❤
Excellent video and demo. Thanks heaps. Sounds really good.
Hi Paul, What a fantastic job you did on this demo. The tones and playing are tasty AF! What pickup is in your bridge position?
Cheers Dan, it’s a Suhr Thornbucker
gorgeous strat ...nice demo too ...
The Blink 182 preset on this is fantastic
Great review! Thank you.
Amazing tone. And for free. So crazy modeling has come this far.
Off topic, though, I love the color of your guitar. What's the name of it?(Sherwood green?)
I’m not sure what the colour is, possibly candy apple green
All I'm getting is a bunch of fizz why?
same here... did you fix it?
Even the paid versions don't have delay, and to be honest, it doesn't matter. There are tons of good free delay plugins out there.
The important thing is that it sounds freakin awesome and it feels good when playing.. Like many people here, I captured some of my gear and on few blind tests I couldn't tell which one is which. It's a perfect tool to create "your sound" and have it at your fingertips, no need to hook up all the gear again.
Hi Michael! Please, can you name some of that free delay plugins you mentioned? Thanx!
Yeah, plus Amplitube has all the delay you could ever want for guitar!
5:37 Oh my god, the Steve Vai Crossroads lick ahahah
Killer playing Paul! I might have to sell my QC NOW😢
This sounds REALLY good for an amp sim
Hahaha. Amp sims are real amps too now you know! That is real sound you are hearing. As real as anything else you can hear. Lol! Just something i say for a bit of fun to folk to ruffle some feathers and poke fun at the whole "for an amp sim" thing.
Killer Yngwie licks man!
Woooow... After hearing.. Tot i was Going To Try Amplitude now That I got Home . ... And I suddenly Watched this 😱😱those Sounds Are Enuff for Me 😱😱
Sir,can you tell us,signal chain from your guitar to your pc in this video?this sound amazing, and i want to learn....
Paul you always get such a crisp tone without fizz, do you use anything like a pre-amp? whenever I try something like this straight in, it sounds like sewage. any chance of showing your setup? Thanks for this demo, the Tonex does feel different, it has a more valvey response in a real way. LOve those arps!! I see a lot of people dissing this software, dont know why, cos it's amazing at its response, its a whole different ball game, really, what do people want!!!??? THis is a amazing.
"It's free so it's absolute bargain" 😂 Remember when I started playing electric guitar in 1997 on Marshall Valvestate hybrid amp, 1 ok-ish clean channel, 2 crappy muddy od/distorsion channels, one ok reverb, payed 550 euros for it..literally every sound you played here sounds amazingly better than that. Would been one happy kid if I had this back then 😮
Offfft that strat is gorgeous.
It’s on eBay if you want it.
I'm curious what interface you're using? I know with my RME it feels a lot better latency wise than an Apollo twin I just let go.
I hope you make some captures and make available for this. Your S-Gear patches are still my favorite!
I too have the RME babyface pro FS.
What's your computer specification ?
@@kalpitmomaya916 caution with RME baby face, they have not a good impedance input for guitars. You should use a direct input box with those. BTW RME are the best for sound quality and best latency performances on Mac
Great intro to ToneX it looks incredible, can you tell me how you record the guitar and video for YT? I have tried OBS studio but I always get a lag in the guitar
So I installed ToneX but the right side of the plugin (either VST or AU) is black and hides a part of the UI, and every preset I select says I need to upgrade. Using Ableton Live 11 on Mac os X Monterey 12.1 thank you
How do you connect your guitar to an amp ?
HOW do you hook these up and record with them? All these videos usually have peeps that know how to do this and I can’t find any good tutorial videos. I don’t even know how to use two notes.
Apologies for the ignorance but how would you describe those lovely descending licks you play? I love your style !
I probably describe them as sloppy. Cheers Matt no need to apologise at all. I’m not really sure how to describe them as there’s a bit of a mixture.
@@TheStudioRats Thanks for such a quick reply! I’m a classic intermediate guitarist and have been stuck there for many years! Are there any techniques or scales or artists you think shaped your playing?
I’m still absolutely in love with the S Gear amp sims you recommended, I liked them so much I ended up selling my amps
Guys I cannot dial in that initial pick attack (high freq.) with which all of your notes start.
how is this video being recorded ? direct or mics in room from monitors ? It is insane good. also can you tell me how you like to hear your guitar as when I use AXE going to my DAW to my Yamaha HS8 monitors I am so use to hearing guitar through speakers in the room it sounds okay compared to hearing it louder through a cab
can you tell me what neck and middle pickups you have in that guitar ? they sound silent must be a good one if they are. Thornbucker is great but the singles sound great!
wait an min, are you just pluging your guitar into your audio interface? Is this all 100% free>. No Tonex hardware needed?
Not sure what the difference is between “tonex” and amplitube. Are they the same thing?
Damn mate ... you have a bucket load of tasty lick!!!! Awesome
Could you please make a review on The Fractal Audio Fm9 & Quad Cortex🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I wana make purchase between the two units but m not sure what does the unit offer or feels like playing it. I use Helix Lt but I am not happy with the unit at all It feels worse to play with it and I am scared to buy without knowing the unit. Many people talk about sounds but very few people talk about the Tone feel of the unit. It’s my huge request Sir🙌🏻🙌🏻 please make a video between Fm9 and Qc and tell us how you feel playing both units and what would be great for gigging musician
Hi Gaurav, sure if you want to send me an FM9 and a QC. In all seriousness I don’t get given free stuff so id have to buy the gear.
@@TheStudioRats If I could do that, I would not have written this comment 😅😅😅 haha.
I like the sound that you made with Fractal. I am thinking of Fm9 but I have no clue on QC. And here in India I can’t try any of these products unless I buy it.
I got Helix Lt 2 years ago thinking it’s good as fractal but it certainly isn’t. And the tone feel is worse than anything with Helix for me.
Do you have to have the pedal or can you just download the software. I don’t play out so the pedal doesn’t work for me
GREAT video and GREAT channel. Forgive my silly question but: I thought Amplitube was IKMultimedia's product for amp modelling etc.. Why is this product TONE X standalone and not part of Amplitube? (I'm just curious). Thank you!
Completely different tech. You can profile your own amps. Its a "picture' of an amp, where A5 is a model(and more tweakable) It DOES work with A5, so you can use those features, as well.
@@65pancakes82 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. Forgive me, I must not be technically so savvy. What do you mean it's a "picture" of an amp? So, for example A5 has lots of amps and other stomps and effects and so what perhaps I don't understand is why these amps (in TONE X) aren't part of the amp collection in A5 which would mean all the stomps and effects will be available for them. I apologize that I don't understand what you said. If you at all can try to explain again I'll much appreciate it. Thanks again for even taking the time to reply.
@@shalomshalom735 It works inside of Amplitube. When I say picture, it profiles the amp AS SET. You can turn the knobs after, but they may not function just like the amp. Its goal is to sound identical to the "picture" its taken of the amp. Amplitube is trying to model the amp- and its controls- so its easier to tweak. But this sounds, and feels more like the actual amp(as profiled) Both are useful. You can use profiled pedals - instead of aoproximations(modeled), as well. All time effects still need to come from A5. This is a different tech, using the real gear, and artificial intelligence to get as close as possible.
Its good.
@@65pancakes82 Thank you so much again!!
Any tips of how you avoided latency when playing the plug-in with the different amp simulations? I have tonex and like the sounds but can’t deal with the latency
did you ever find a fix
fender a little too bright, that's a single coil thing right?
Greetings from Russia. you have a very cool channel! what strings are you using on this guitar in the video?
Cheers Serge. There’s just regular 10-46 Diaddario
I hope musicians dont lose the fact that whatever you do with this type of tech (which sounds amazing for what it is) that you will HAVE TO recreate your sound when you play live. Thats a you problem if your not up to par.
Use the TONEX pedal and run it to the FOH. Done. $400.
are you using an overdrive pedal with this plugin!!
In your opinion, How it compares this against Crushman V3 from NALEX?... wich is free too. (A Friedman style amp sim)
I haven’t used it I’m afraid, but I’ll check it out.
What kind of speakers are you using with your interface? Thanks!!
I’m using KII three monitors
This is without the pedal yes? I just cant get any decent sounds out of it. Must be doing something really wrong
The factory presets aren’t great, you’ll need to either get some third part captures or create your own
nope. the crunch and gain stuff sounds pretty unrealistic to me...
Can you run it through the power amp in on a real amp , and I have read that it does not have time based effects can you create a preset with the software using time based effects and save it to the pedal
Only reverb on tonex
hi Mate, can you please explain your signal chain? what audio interface are you using? thanks, cheers
My guitar is plugged straight into a Universal Audio Apollo X6
@@TheStudioRats Great! I use RME Babyface pro FS.
What's your computer specification though?
@@TheStudioRats lovely thanks
@@TheStudioRats this is a year out, but what are you recording the signal in? I tried using QuickTime to record using my Scarlett 2i2, but all I get in the recording is the dry signal.
filter by owned and you can see the 20 amps you get for free
i just got the free version and it hisses every 7 seconds. Any ideas how to get rid of?? thx
It has a noise gate
Did you play it in stand alone and how was the latency, more so as a plug in.. thanks.
I played it in my DAW with 32 samples latency.
I'm using, same, 32 samples on standalone version, or inside DAW (Reaper) and there's no latency. It feels the same like any other guitar plugins out there.
I need a tutorial for all the dinosaurs that are clueless how to taste of this new delicious material.
How to run your guitar into it
How to record with live into record/video
How to use two notes torpedo
I love Amplitube and Amplitube 4 is still my main guitar plugin. I've tried Tone X and getting decent sound out of it is not easy. Not impressed at all.
Is it better than S-Gear?
came here to ask same thing lol
Has anyone found out where you can access a list of either downloaded or "liked" amps in either Tonex or Amplitube. I routinely download user uploads, head to amplitube to set up a signal chain with them, but when I click on the Tonex in the amp section, it seems like a crap-shoot as to whether the Tonex amps are there, and many times, after setting up a signal chain around one and saving a preset for gigging, I come back a few days later and it's gone and tells me "amp not owned" This product is great but if you can rely on being able to use what is created it is worthless
Still cannot connect to the tonenet, had to uninstall it
Nice demo, but frankly the conclusion doesn't make a whole lot of sense. "You don't get the same response as plugging into an amp" - well it is actually awfuly close compared to what it is actually doing the entire recorded chain - it does in fact feel and sound remarkably close to a mic'd up rig where the only thing you actually hear is the recorded tone (not the live in the room response). Null tests have shown just how close this thing can get to that. As for is it the same as a multi-effects unit AxeFx and similar? It isn't suposed to have all of those effects it is an amp simulator and it does a snap shot of an amp sound just as well as the AxeFX. Not once have I thought my real amp is missing a delay buit in. So that point is moot and more controls for Reverb, etc. Well the best amps ever built didn't have reverbs built in ala. Trainwrecks and Dumble. I have a paid version and did a number of captures. Built in models are ok, but if you are selective about which 20 user models you pick, the free version is truly insane. As long as people keep recording their gear, the SE version will be enough for basically anyone.
Also the MAX version is extremely cheap considering you get like 400 models for it! What would it cost to buy all that hardware gear? Wow you'd have to be a freaking millionaire!
Videos like this one are in my opinion what always give IK multimedia its bad reputation
I'm not a guitarist and to my mortal ears, every sound was indistinguishable from a real amp. He may not feel it but 99% of humanity won't give two shits about where it came from. To say that it's only good cause is "FREE" I honestly don't think its fair game!
Ik product manager is a major ordeal …but yeah free is good
I find every software company download manager to be a ball ache
Kemper is still the king.
I have Amplitude 5 stuff, Native Helix, STL stuff and various plugins. Kemper as old as it is now is still the king.
Your better off buying a combo and miking it yourself.
You're right. My Gorilla combo was only $8 at a garage sale and I sold the Kemper and bought a pound of weed.
Ball ache with all the IK product installation. Seriously, people complain about things like iLOK and this is far from easy installation and upgrade
I have a very annoying hiss ,about every six seconds
Me too. That's why I deleted the program. I never could figure out why.
Because you’re selecting paid presets. Try using the free ones, they work fine.
So basically, a bunch of free high gain and overdriven tones.... no real clean sounds?
I downloaded Tonex CS but i don't have any amp models? Only my signal. I click on different amp models but there is no difference. I can only listen to audio demos but can't physically try out anything. Aren't there even a few that is free?
maybe you need to load Amplitube CS or Paid after TONEX if you want Delay etc?
