    ToneX is a freaking marvel! I'm amazed at what they did... IK Multimedia has just created a game-changer imo. Messing around with the captures is like being a kid in the music store all over again!! I can't possibly see how this product can not be used to record professionally. I'm continually AMAZED by how freaking good it sounds and how naturally reactive it is!

    I downloaded the free version to noodle with. Wasn’t sure what to expect since I don’t mess around with desktop stuff much. I loaded the Black Angus preset and was really impressed but the volume out of my little studio monitors wasn’t quite enough. I remedied that by hooking up the Line 6 power-cab and wow!!! I could swear there’s an actual 800 in the room. That tone is the best thing I’ve ever heard out of a modeler. It is better than anything I’ve ever coaxed out of my Helix, and I love the Helix. I guess I’m about to start messing with desktop stuff now.
    This sounds like an 800 in the room, just incredible.

      Its not entirely rubbish. Its just not literally the amp tone that people are speaking of. It is more about expression but those kind of things can colour your sound in a more generalised sense. Especially with cleaner tones.

    These Tonex presets sound great. I just spent some time trying to copy some of the best presets with my line 6 HX stomp. Frankly I got the same results… BUT I had to add some EQ and compression here and there, nothing special. I did those clones with my studio flat monitors and my studio flat headphones, they are really almost identical, just a very tiny EQ difference, but same quality, same greatness.

  • @bruhskifrfrnocapbussinmate

    The paid versions capture software does a very good job of capturing (I think it does a better job than the Kemper or Quad Cortex) though you need a pretty powerful PC to do the training.
    The only warning is the capture process works better on Windows with an NVIDIA gpu (as a lot of the AI modeling is done off a GPU) so it can take a looooong time on some systems. I have a 4090 so advanced training takes 20-25 minutes, but people with 3060s get about the same amount of time.
    It also has Amplitube 5 integration (might only be in paid), which gets you access to a ton of effects, overdrives, and rack units to use with your tonex models so I'd recommend that too.
    If IK releases a floor unit like Quad Cortex or Helix I can see this getting a ton of traction.

    Even the paid versions don't have delay, and to be honest, it doesn't matter. There are tons of good free delay plugins out there.
    The important thing is that it sounds freakin awesome and it feels good when playing.. Like many people here, I captured some of my gear and on few blind tests I couldn't tell which one is which. It's a perfect tool to create "your sound" and have it at your fingertips, no need to hook up all the gear again.

      Completely different tech. You can profile your own amps. Its a "picture' of an amp, where A5 is a model(and more tweakable) It DOES work with A5, so you can use those features, as well.

      @shalomshalom735 Před rokem

      @@65pancakes82 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. Forgive me, I must not be technically so savvy. What do you mean it's a "picture" of an amp? So, for example A5 has lots of amps and other stomps and effects and so what perhaps I don't understand is why these amps (in TONE X) aren't part of the amp collection in A5 which would mean all the stomps and effects will be available for them. I apologize that I don't understand what you said. If you at all can try to explain again I'll much appreciate it. Thanks again for even taking the time to reply.

    • @65pancakes82
      @65pancakes82 Před rokem +1

      @@shalomshalom735 It works inside of Amplitube. When I say picture, it profiles the amp AS SET. You can turn the knobs after, but they may not function just like the amp. Its goal is to sound identical to the "picture" its taken of the amp. Amplitube is trying to model the amp- and its controls- so its easier to tweak. But this sounds, and feels more like the actual amp(as profiled) Both are useful. You can use profiled pedals - instead of aoproximations(modeled), as well. All time effects still need to come from A5. This is a different tech, using the real gear, and artificial intelligence to get as close as possible.

    Nice demo, but frankly the conclusion doesn't make a whole lot of sense. "You don't get the same response as plugging into an amp" - well it is actually awfuly close compared to what it is actually doing the entire recorded chain - it does in fact feel and sound remarkably close to a mic'd up rig where the only thing you actually hear is the recorded tone (not the live in the room response). Null tests have shown just how close this thing can get to that. As for is it the same as a multi-effects unit AxeFx and similar? It isn't suposed to have all of those effects it is an amp simulator and it does a snap shot of an amp sound just as well as the AxeFX. Not once have I thought my real amp is missing a delay buit in. So that point is moot and more controls for Reverb, etc. Well the best amps ever built didn't have reverbs built in ala. Trainwrecks and Dumble. I have a paid version and did a number of captures. Built in models are ok, but if you are selective about which 20 user models you pick, the free version is truly insane. As long as people keep recording their gear, the SE version will be enough for basically anyone.

    Also the MAX version is extremely cheap considering you get like 400 models for it! What would it cost to buy all that hardware gear? Wow you'd have to be a freaking millionaire!

    Videos like this one are in my opinion what always give IK multimedia its bad reputation
    I'm not a guitarist and to my mortal ears, every sound was indistinguishable from a real amp. He may not feel it but 99% of humanity won't give two shits about where it came from. To say that it's only good cause is "FREE" I honestly don't think its fair game!

    Kemper is still the king.
    I have Amplitude 5 stuff, Native Helix, STL stuff and various plugins. Kemper as old as it is now is still the king.
    Your better off buying a combo and miking it yourself.

      You're right. My Gorilla combo was only $8 at a garage sale and I sold the Kemper and bought a pound of weed.

    Ball ache with all the IK product installation. Seriously, people complain about things like iLOK and this is far from easy installation and upgrade

      Because you’re selecting paid presets. Try using the free ones, they work fine.

    So basically, a bunch of free high gain and overdriven tones.... no real clean sounds?

    I downloaded Tonex CS but i don't have any amp models? Only my signal. I click on different amp models but there is no difference. I can only listen to audio demos but can't physically try out anything. Aren't there even a few that is free?

    maybe you need to load Amplitube CS or Paid after TONEX if you want Delay etc?
