    You can visit Stonehenge for free on any day. I know because I made a video about it. There’s a free footpath that runs right alongside the paid one.
    The only difference is it’s £21 cheaper, you’re a few metres further away from the rocks and any exhibition stuff isn’t included. And it doesn’t close so early.

    • @smokinrider
      @smokinrider Před 3 lety

      It’s a byway not a footpath and you can drive on it and park there. Only idiots pay to see something that was given to the public for free access. And £40. Shove that. Surprised they didn’t wild camp there on the byway with the hippies.

    • @havisiting
      @havisiting Před 3 lety

      @@smokinrider when Cecil Chubb gifted Stonehenge to the nation in 1918 he asked that visitors be charged no more than one shilling to enter. By today’s money that’s a little short of £3, so yes, £20 is daylight robbery.
      I don’t blame anyone for paying though if they want to get a littler closer. I just don’t think the extra metres are worth the extra money

    I've been to this area 2 years ago, with my sister. Like real proper tourists whe went to Stonehenge. If we only knew about all the stones around it, it would've saved us lot of money.... Just discovered your video's, I love them! My sister would've too. Sadly she passed away 2 months ago. She's the one I always went to England with. I promised her to take the rocks back that she 'stole' from the beaches at Whitby. She wanted to put them back herself on our planned holiday in 2020. Corona f*cked it up. Now it's my job, I'll bring them back, don't worry.
    I might go back to the New Forest area one day, just to trace our last holiday together. I will keep in mind the free stones.

    Also, just along from West Kennet Kings Barrow is Swallowhead Springs. An ancient spring emerging from a pair of intertwined trees, forming an arch over the water. People leave gift offerings and tie ribbons on the trees here. Wiltshire is the home of the ancient Druids!

    Little Beanstalks, love it!!! Never heard of Silbury Hill, had to look it up. I read where several tunnels were dug but they are collapsed now, nothing ever found. I was on an organized tour and never saw Woodhenge. They may be walking barefoot because they are "earthing" or grounding with the earth's surface. We had to do a slow drive-by of Stonehenge because that year there was a severe run of foot and mouth disease among the livestock and they were afraid of foot traffic spreading it. So gald you took us on this tour, thanks! Take care you two.

    Last time I visited Stonehenge it was free, except a charge for the car park, one could also walk amongst the stones, no heritage centre or café just a van in the car park selling tea, coffee and sandwiches, I think it was an ex wartime WVS/NAAFI van. ("Tea, no sugar and a cheese wad, please"). It was still noisy from the A303 running past just far less traffic. Roll on the tunnel, it might become a peaceful place again. It was over 60 years ago though.

    You can park up on the track that parses the entrance of Stonehenge and the Chinese takeaway in Larkhill will deliver there.

    Oh nice one. I've been but wasn't very impressed compared to skara brae and the ring of brodgar in orkney, orkney eagle's tomb. Many are Older then stonehenge and you can up to it. In my opinion so much better and well less know and less tourist. Done it as a de-tour when doing the nc500, best do your ever👍

    We're touring Wiltshire/Somerset at the beginning of August so thanks for the heads up it gave us a few good pointers.
    NB. If you join English Heritage stonehenge becomes free to visit including the parking.

    I remember in the 70's you could go in among the stones at stone henge and have a picnic or whatever, and you didn't have to pay.
    Did you have a walk around Avebury ?

    The hippies will be walking around barefoot, mainly grounding on the laylines, i’ve never heard of woodhenge, if someone ever said to me i would have thought it was a festival lol

    What a fab vlog, totally love it. I spend half my life in Wiltshire and I have never heard of Wood Henge. I will definitely be visiting it. Did Stonehenge at summer solstice once. Glad I did it, wouldn't do it again. They gorgeous morning walk back to the car was the best bit 😆

    When you eventually get to Scotland and do the North Coast 500 go to the Isle of Lewis and see the second biggest Henge in the UK, The Callanish Stones. Again, this is a complex of stone circles and in more spectacular surroundings. It will enhance your life!! You can also get closer to them and fewer tourists.
