You guys are adorable & fun to watch. Loved Rush since 1978.
I was 12 years old in January of 1980 when this song came out. It became my gateway to the greatest rock trio ever. 43 years later and I’m still obsessed.🤘🏻🔥
I love this song as a commentary on radio from the mid 1970s to the late 1980s
One of the best live performances, Xanadu 1981 Exit stage left tour. It's a must if you love Rush
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
Gary
Imagine that today, 3 guys on a stage with nothing but skill and talent putting on an epic show, no backing vocals, no auto tune, just skill and talent. It is becoming a rare thing. These guys have so much talent, as many bands back then, if you couldn't play and sing you didn't become famous. Sadly not the same standards today. Closest I have seen to this talent today has to be Greta Von Fleet, like Rush, a 3 piece, these guys are new and are bringing Rock back to the good times.
3 piece??
@@chunderbill sorry, my bad, Greta is a 4 piece band, i was thinking RUSH and Triumph at the time. still a talented bunch of guys regardless.
Please check out Crown Lands. They are a rock duo from Canada who are huge Rush fans. Refreshing new rock!
I do not comment on these reaction videos much. But I have to say you two are adorable together, so much love it makes me smile.
Thank you 😊
Great musically but the lyrics are well worth a read (see below). Spirit of Radio is the slogan of a radio station broadcasting from the top of the CN Tower and therefore reaching as far as across Lake Ontario to Buffalo, resulting in otherwise unknown Canadian bands, having some impact in parts of New York eg. The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, The Tea Party...
Begin the day with a friendly voice
A companion, unobtrusive
Plays that song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood
Off on your way, hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the spirits ever lingers
Undemanding contact in your happy solitude
Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennas bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question of your honesty
Yeah, your honesty
One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah
Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennas bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
For the words of the profits
Were written on the studio wall
Concert hall
Echoes with the sounds of salesmen
Of salesman, of salesmen, oh
Although the station, CNFY 102.1, was broadly alternative, playing a lot of subgenres, from punk, post-punk, new wave, Manchester, industrial, shoegaze, dream pop to indie rock, they also gave Rush a chance when no one else would, which was appreciated by Neil Peart as the songwriter.
Compared to the 98% of pop radio stations in North America that are owned by 2 companies and play almost exclusively the music they're paid to play by the big 5 record companies...
music written by commmittees to follow a formula with so many hooks per minute to instantly gratify and capture their audience ("all this machinery making modern music"... CFNY at the time and until around 1995, actually did embody the Spirit of Radio.
Sadly they succombed to, as Geddy Lee sings: "but glittering prizes, and endless compromises, shatter the illusion of integrity".
The world needs to see Andrei in a Miami Vice era sport jacket, hair at the back grown into a 'rat tail' style, and the pointed finger dance while singing your favourite songs :)
music no matter color or culture is now and always should be the common denominator that builds the bridges between us all. Respect is earned not borrowed. You have Kens DNA... Great work too you !! look forward to more,
Ahh...your precious pooch making a cameo at around the seven minute mark=priceless!
The interaction, love & fun between you two is wonderful to see.
Three things, one that’s the first song of the set, two it was Miami Vice lol, three all those different styles the part runs through is meant to represent a radio dial being turned and all the different types of music you’d hear.🖖🤘✌️🥁🎸🎹🎤
Neal Peart had the most incrediblee drum set I have EVER seen!
To even manage all that he must have some octopus blood in his veins ar something!
Yep, that all the 80's look and 80's stage moves going for them too.
Three genuine geniuses!!! Three masters of their art and the greatest rock trio ever......this when Geddy still had his voice!!
The Most Powerful Trio.
The song encapsulates the feeling of the joy of listening to music when radio was the main way to hear your music. Waiting for your favorite songs & thrill when they played. Great.
Then turns to the negatives of that the business side began to impose on mysic & radio around that time.
Rush are genuine rock gods!
Mandatory suggestion - 2112 (full video), it's a concept album, tells a great story and features some of the very best stuff Rush ever recorded.
You need to check out Rush best intro ever. It’s from 2013, you will see they are still awesome!
A must-watch Rush-Live in Cleveland-Time Machine Tour-Working Man
Your comment about listening to their music more often is spot on, I have been a fan since 1979 , still finding new little buried touches in their songs.
Radio DJs used to have a lot more say about what they played on air. A DJ in Cleveland really helped introduce Rush to the US! The more corporate radio became, the less control DJs had, making it harder for new or lesser known artists to get any air time.
If you watch the documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage you will see the guys discussing their fashion failures. They came from a era when you didn't wear jeans and a t-shirt on stage, or at least they that would be odd. However, what they really wanted to wear was jeans and a t-shirt. As a result they always struggled with what to wear on-stage. As they got older they stopped caring about that so much and just wore what they wanted. In 1985, however, they were still looking for the right stage attire. Plus they were influenced by the times. They look very 80's in this video.
It is so remarkable and is very much in keeping with a band that is as remarkable as rush that they have gone on to have this huge impact in the current world of reaction videos period it's like they were this sleeping giant waiting for people to actually crave real musicianship and talent and for people even younger than you guys who've never ever heard music played with this integrity and this degree of skill data rush is a unique phenomenon and their music lives on and we'll obviously move into the future where can continue to inspire another generation of fans and musicians. Rest in peace NeilPeart.
Thanks for this one. I'd suggest reacting to the official video of 'My Music at Work' by Canadian band 'The Tragically Hip'. Similar to how Rush explains the importance of radio in their (our) lives, The Hip song is about how listening to music at work can help to get through the day. Well worth a reaction!
That song was about a real morning DJ who was on AM690 in the Toronto area when theey wrote it
Unfortunately by the time the song charted he was no longer there
Grace under pressure tour👍
Yes, more Rush please. This was the first tour I saw Rush on. And made sure to see every one after that.
I was at this concert as a teenager. I think I was 16 at the time…my first Rush concert very close floor seats. An experience that is etched in my mind still to this day. Great reaction guys.
Marillion steal the guitar intro for his "Alone again in the lap of luxury".
In those days all famous people heither had the Mimi Vice look or wanted to!
Trees
Don't miss this Rush masterpiece!
You must see “ NEIL PEART DRUM SOLO IN FRANKFORT “!
Miami Vice lol Brilliant ✌️🇨🇦
THE 70S IN THE USA WERE THE BEST!!!!!!OOOPS LOL FORGOT THIS WAS LATER. IVE BEEN WATCHING YOU BOTH UNTIL I GOT A NEW EMAIL TY FOR UR REACTION!!!!
I've only seen them 5 times live, and I'm sad that I can never see them again. It warms my heart to see reactions of people that are discovering them late.
3 masters of their craft. They influenced so many artists in their 40 years. Never a dull moment at a rush concert. Sadly Neil no longer with us the other two boys now 70 years old
Happy to see you! RUSH blessed our town with many tours🎉!
Seen them a few times, wish it had been more (the dog looks comfy) 👍
Love your reactions as you awaken to the fabulous music of rock. I have seen your Pink Floyd reactions and your amazement at their incredible music. I am surprised that you have not reacted to their final song on Wish You were Here, which is their final tribute to their band mate, the late Syd Barret Shine on you crazy diamond Pts 6 - 9. So emotional. What an ending!!!
Great song and I love your reaction. You two are so adorable and I loved seeing your puppy in the background.
Cheers
At 6:43 the dogs ears were in sync with the band!
Off the charts ❤
I actually saw this tour when they were in Chicago. But I wasn't wearing padded shoulders. (I think.)
Hey guys enjoy your reactions!! Check out the band Kansas from the 70s Carry on Wayward son live... Good stuff
🤗 1 of my favorite songs by them! 🥰🐰
Watch. “ Neil Peart’s Drum Solo in Frankfurt “
What I love about RUSH is that you can hear the bass guitar as clearly as you hear the guitars and drums. No other band adds as much musicality from the bass guitar as RUSH does.
🏆🏆🏆🏆!
I adore you two! Love from Texas! Keep rocking 😎
Thanks for the reaction, always love yours! This song was actually released in 1980.
I see that it's live from 1984.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🇨🇦
👍👍👍👍👍
Roll the Bones 1992 and Time Machine Tour.
Primus was the opening act with them and it was the first time I had ever heard Primuses music at all.
Lyrically the song is talking about the business and integrity of the music business. TSOR is one of Rush's most popular radio hits. Rush overall were never a radio friendly band in their early years mostly due to the length of songs. According to Donna Halper (credited with discovering Rush in the US) has stated Rush throughout their career were blackballed with many US radio stations. When you get around to hearing Rush's full discography, you'll be scratching your head wondering why so many Rush radio friendly songs didn't become hits in the mainstream. I think the SARS live in Toronto is the best version on YT for energy and video/audio quality.
It was a great show 🤘🤘
I’d be interested in what you think of the band Marillion. Try the song Easter live.
Vitamin C, sure but watch out for Xanadu ESL: pure musical heroin! 🎉
Geddy's family were from Poland so maybe the finger thing is Polish?
You should listen to My Immortal by Evanescence. It is exactly your thing.
Also try Wild Horses by The Sundays. Its a rolling stones song but that version is my favoirite
You need to go back to their 70’s video we’re their wearing robes
Please React to Rush live medley YYZ/2112/Tom Sowyer live toronto 1984
Im a new sub guys love you...please check out Led Zeppelin..."Dazed and Confused" studio version...its another masterpiece.
This song is a great performance. The Duran Duran attire however is an embarrassment and the beginning of the Rush downfall.
