While I don’t have a pc to play Kingdom Hearts (only the PlayStation collection) I’m glad the games are coming to Steam soon. Lots of people will be having fun now

Wish they would implement an option to use the original PS2 soundtracks. Yes, there are mods, but I feel this option should be standard for any remaster, and most remasters let you do that.
Vim and Vigor original is way better
Not to mention original voice lines. I think Roxas' battle lines in OG KH2 are better than the lines in the remasters.
i also want german voice acting back for KH1 and 2. It was just so good

what ive noticed is that somehow, the texture were HD in the ps3 remakes, but then got compressed for the ps4 versions.
Probably a result of the change in architecture.
They probably had much lower and much more intimate access to how the ps3 handled the textures, where the ps4 was much more like a pc, and pcs nowadays have VERY public and VERY easy to use libraries and file formats, now sure, maybe sony stepped in and told them "they have to be in a proprietary sony format" but I'm sure they have a few options to choose from. So yeah, why not save some space and performance by compressing the textures.
@@paulbunyangonewild7596 its possible! And it won't even be super obvious to the average person. I just remember playing 2.5 on ps3 and thinking wow they really made the default face textures look so good! (there were some doctored images they used as promo for 1.5 so it was a nice compromise) and then I played kh2 on ps4 and noticed they were more compressed
I'm so glad you brought this up because I've been thinking that exact same thing for a long time and never seen anyone else mention it... Every time I boot up and play the PS4 version I ALWAYS get this feeling that it used to look better and sharper but is now somehow worse. You are absolutely correct, I VIVIDLY remember the textures being super high resolution when the PS3 version came out and now I always get the feeling that that's missing in the PS4 version.
reminds me of the sonic adventure games. Every single time those games got rereleased for some reason the textures got recompressed.
Maybe to get the game running at 60 fps idk
Heads up, just because there's the Japanese 'full audio' option in the Steam page doesn't necessarily mean there will be an audio language toggle in the settings. It might be like Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD where you have to have Japanese text/UI to have the Japanese audio (not counting mods that enable that separation). It might be that got updated since I played them, but I remember having to use a third-party tool to get English UI/Japanese voices.

We don't know yet if it actually supports Japanese audio outside Japan. Some games region lock Japanese voice acting where you can only select it if you have a Japanese steam account
Japanese voices on KH games sound so wrong though. Japanese voices work on every other game but hearing goofy or donald talk in japanese is just so wrong on so many levels hahaha
Yeah this game is rough for people who prefer the original vision because Disney characters in Japanese sound wrong and final fantasy characters in English sound wrong
Wouldn't there just be mods to fix this issue, though? There's already a modding community for the Epic Games Kingdom Hearts series so unless you dont want to touch modding either English or Japanese would be available to you regardless.
@@Rayqson imagine if there was an option for "original voice" and make it so FF characters were in japanese and Disney characters were in english lol. and we can just chalk it up to the tekken effect where everyone can understand each other lol.

The Epic Page for KH 1.5 + 2.5 also (at first) said there would be Japanese support, but then it didn't get any and that language support was removed
Odd… maybe it’s a regional thing cuz I can play the game fully in Japanese with the correct lipsync.
While I understand wanting the option to completely turn off the music, I can't imagine wanting to stop one of Yoko Shimomura's best work.
If you're livestreaming, it's a godsend.
Game soundtracks are okay to Livestream though, unless there is a licensed track
@thechugg4372 Not if it's Square Enix, Nintendo, or any game soundtrack that has its distribution rights given to any of the major Music Groups, like Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, or Warner Music Group.
@@X2011racer I think the main problem with streaming KH music wise is Utada's songs, that usually gets muted.
KH3 even gives pointers on what they think is and isn't okay to do in the "before you stream" section
Typically I prefer to listen to my own music during a grinding session, just no matter what.
I really hope they fix the annoying audio bug in the current PC port of KH2. I heard that there used to be a few sound effects in certain combat situations that would blow out your eardrums, but that they then "fixed" it by lowering the volume of the entire game when those moves occurred. Its really jarring hearing the game go from 100% volume to like 5% volume for a second or two, so I hope they actually create a true fix for the steam port.
Yeah they really messed up the audio. Also multiple instances of the same sounds get messed up really bad. Listen the sound of xigbars guns shooting during his dm in the ps2 version, and then listen to it in the remaster. The difference is JARRING

I would also like to point out that the name of the new keyblade is a reference to one of the outcomes of the three questions at the beginning of KH1
This is great, but it would be very interesting to have a real port of Kingdom Hertas 352/2 Days and the recoded game as well, not just the cutscenes in HD
That's what I've been noticing in the description, which is making me even more excited for it ^^

This. I'm not a fan of the FM recolours. Guard Armor always looks cooler in purple lol.
There are mods that change the FM heartless to the original color palette, so if square doesn't do it themselves at least the modders got you covered.
@@DJAB87 for me the FM colors look great but ya there are some original colors that look better. One thing that I love about the pc version is modders fixed the wonky combat of the command menu kingdom hearts games like BBS and DDD.
I hope this means we can one day mod the Kingdom Hearts games! I've always wanted to play as Sora in his original lion form with the chainsaw-looking blade he had.

There's already been plenty of mods since it has been out on Epic Games Store, but it would be super cool to eventually have that original lion form

The Epic version also said it would have japanese language support, but it never actually happened.
Worse that that, if you bought 1.5+2.5 on Japan, the game is locked to Japanese only. kh3 doesn’t have that region lock.
only KH3 do have that bilingual option,...KH1.5 + 2.5, 2.8 technically do have japanese voices in the files but its was disabled for some reason,...mod allows bypass that.
Yea but epic is awful so it's hardly surprising.
You forgot to mention the Steam Input API! This will mean ALL controllers will natively be supported and in theory should have all their buttons show in-game without mods (specifically Switch controllers and Steam controller/Deck). Even though the PS controllers already show button prompts correctly, this will mean that it's not game dependent and Steam will handle it direct instead.
I'm kind of bummed out that only the PC version gets the Japanese audio
My limited Japanese from my language lessons cannot take me through the game without getting confused once in a while

I really do hope that it's not like last time where they said it would be there but then wasn't for the Western Release.
As someone who owns the Japanese Version of the series on Playstation but only English on PC,
the Japanese versions' audio is so much better imo and there's no translation errors, KH1 and KH3 particularly have horrible English translations that I can't stand.

I am beyond excited to play this series on the Steam Deck. I wanted to play KH1 and KH2 handheld for so long now.

Update us when the most important mods made in EGS get ported to Steam, SE once again decided not to bring back the french and german voice acting since the PS2 so i'll be waiting for the voice ( and music ) mods to port over before settling on steam for good. I'm glad i didn't get 2.8 nor 3 on EGS.
If the mods are coming from the nexus and so long as the steam versions don't actually differ THAT much coding wise from the epic games versions, I doubt there's gonna be any need to wait long.
I’m almost positive that you can’t completely mute music or sound Fx because square was trying to stop people from making audio rips.
It’s a kind of stupid because you can just dig through the files but I can’t see any other reason for this not being an option
How would people muting BGM to zero let people make BGM audio rips? 🤷♂

I really hope they at least slightly modify the models of some of the keyblades. Specifically in cutscenes the Kingdom Key in KH1 and 2 look pretty rough.

4:44 I mean Kingdom Key D is a recolor of Riku's Kingdom Key that chose Sora after Riku lost his heart to darkness and decided to stick with Sora even _after_ Riku returned to the light in KHII, leading Riku to obtain Braveheart by unknown means (I'm sure we'll get a spinoff game with the only contribution to the plot being explaining how Riku got it, this IS Kingdom Hearts after all (See also: Mickey's shirt in A Fragmentary Passage, Re:Coded with Maleficent's interest in the Book of Prophecies leading into her appearance in Union χ and Memory of Melody revealing Tera-Xehanort was the one who sent Kairi to Destiny Islands)) when Way to the Dawn broke in the World of Darkness.

at the start of this year i upgraded to a top of the line PC with a really nice OLED ultrawide monitor, absolutely cannot wait to experience these classics with my setup

It's a crime they won't restore the german dub for KH1 and KH2. Those were one of the, if not THE BEST german Dubs in all of german gaming history. I'm not even kidding or exaggerating. This is just a well known fact.
I've also been missing the dub ever since the first HD collection, but I get why it's not possible. All the final mix exclusive voice lines would be missing. Maybe a modder could fill those lines with the help of AI voice models, but of course the ethics of that are dubious.

The solution to camera FOV variation is to create a mod that cycles through Field of View settings using the R3 button
I love this series, but never played them again after playing them originally on PS2, had thought about getting the remasters on Epic but just never got around to it. Glad I waited - definitely will pick up this version especially when a steam sale hits.

I plan to finish the PS4 versions before I get the PC versions for mods, gotta unlock all the PS4 menu stuff before switching completely to PS5 since PS5 doesn't have the PS4 menu themes yet

Hmm you're right... This requires further investigation.
One BIG improvement that you forgot to mention is the addition of steam cloud to the games. This is great so that if anything happens you have it in the cloud. I was an isuse when I was gonna play on another device but Epic doesn't have cloud support on KH.
Having these games finally on PC will be great.
Japanese voice option would definitely give me a reason to double dip for PC version. Would wait for a sale though.

I find it funny how this announcement happened right after I watched your video about the specialized Melon emulator for Days and started playing that on my steamdeck. Now all I need is that Coded remaster and I'll have the perfect set up for the series.

Let's be honest: I think the old versions like the PS4 Versions of all the KH Games deserved to be updated too. No idea why they just ignore the other releases. I bought all the games two times now and I am not willing to buy them a fourth time. If they won't update, I stick with mods. I already have a PC version of KH. I don't need another one.
But I am happy for the people who have waited for the Steam version.
I hope theres an option to toggle final mix heartless colors, I prefer the original palette
Alternatively, I would like to have the final mix colors for recurring mobs in the other games they appear in.
I only got KH3 on EGS thankfully I'll check out the steam remasters of the collection. Coming from the PS & DS era of the games I'm glad they're finally on PC and I'm super interested to see what the mods turn up to be like

Ya know, Im kinda surprised you haven't talked much about the big mods for kh3 yet. There is alot going on that I'd think you'd like alot.
A mod recently came out for kh3 called "Another Road Young Xehanort" You can play as who was mentioned with unique fighting moves and weapons. It's in the 2.0 stage and it's crazy!
Crowbar Keyblade will definitely be a mod now...
Not from me I can't make mods, but someone will definitely make it.
Steam Cloud is another feature worth looking for (at least for me)
I just picked up a steam deck last week and the fact that just the day before it was revealed I was thinking that it was a shame that KH isnt on steam so I can play it without dual booting, only for the announcement to happen the next day. I cannot wait!

My only complaint on the visuals is the inevitable massive increase to the file size. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this pushing the 200gb range and, besides those who are looking directly for the change, nobody will notice. The ps3 release was really as good as these games “needed” to look. On ps4 we got the 60fps which was a worthy upgrade. And the EGS was the same but with hope of mods and user made content. I will be buying these on steam purely for convenience but there is very little new Im interested here.
I wish instead of slightly improved textured we had a proper option to use the original non-final mix colors of some enemies. Or throw in a new keyblade, or frankly any content, to any title besides Kingdom hearts 3 and the community would be going nuts. This release is a welcome one, but it really is the epitome of the whole joke of releasing these games, identically (almost) again for probably full retail price.
Kinda wish dead of night was a star seeker recolor instead cause shape wise it can be kinda close to steam's logo
I couldn’t even get out of the intro for KH1 without it crashing continuously for an hour and half
it's pretty obvious such as looking at the trailer that the ai upscaling has lost the depth in many of the textures and has caused artifact such as in the health bar sprite
also they modify these every time they port them because they've changed the build of the engine it runs on every time i don't know why they do this with phyreengine games but it's like this for all of them
for example the xbox version has features the ps4 version does not
also they've made no mention of steam deck compatibility
You say “for example” and provide no examples. What does the Xbox have?
among other small differences you can skip the kh1 opening on xbox and egs but not on ps4 and they remade the save load screens while on ps4 it's just the generic and that also got added to egs

Mods have go you covered for the Final Mix colorations. There is already a mod for that change for the EGS version, and I imagine it will only be a matter of time before that is carried over to Steam.

@@treddox5880 graphics/file swap mods should be based more on unreal engine than the specific Steam/EGS launcher, so I'd assume that most existing KH game PC mods should work fine on Steam too already (at least that's how most FF7R pc mods already worked correctly with EGS vs Steam)
Ive just been emulating all of the kh games on my steam deck lol im sure you know about that being a possibility. But ill still buy these versions to support
I hope they make workshop for this game so we can have custom keyblade mods and moveset mods without have to replace the old ones
One thing I want more than anything is an official option to change the music to classic OSTs

Welp, about damn time this ported to steam. honestly surprised it took THIS long for them to do it.
This was the only reason I held off on playing on console in hopes of it coming to pc along with upgraded graphics and not to mention the pc mods that will be created by modders for it I'm can't wait 😀
I am super excited to see the PC Port at last for Kingdom Hearts! I had been waiting years because I didn't had any money for Playstation to play the Kingdom Hearts games. Now that the Whole Saga is coming to PC atleast for so long. Can't wait!
If theyre gonna keep rereleasing Remix Collections, i wish theyd go back to Days and Re:Coded to update them as well!

Every game I bought on Epic Games so far - Red Dead Redemption 2, the entire Kingdom Hearts collection - I regretted.

Whats funny to me is that kingdom hearts been on almost everything except pc but because there new multiplate annoucement that thought release on pc would be mind blowing lol.
i hope there's gonna be a way to transfer/convert epic games save files to the steam version
it's really cool that Kingdom Hearts Is coming to Steam and the mods that will come out of it will be amazing, wonder if that means that KH stuff will be in Garry's mod.

I would hold off excitement over the Japanese audio though. I heard people saying that might only apply if you are using a Japanese account you can hear the Japanese audio instead of simply choosing between the two.
Apparently the Epic Game Store version is getting the same upgrades. So that's good news for those who bought it on that launcher.
