I read the books before I watched the movies and I cried so much when he died. In the book he’s literally talking about how he tried to kill himself in the maze before he dies and it’s so damm sad. I wished he would have survived
If I remember correctly in the books Thomas is the one who kills Newt. But in the movies they changed it to him killing himself so that he wouldn’t harm Thomas... I like the movie version more. They made it more emotional.

This is probably just a coincidence but when newt tries to stab Thomas in death cure he stabs on the left side of his chest which is the side you heart is on (i think)
I think my favorite scene with them was a deleted scene from The Death Cure when Newt was telling Thomas the story of how he got his limp…it was beautiful and so personal and made me cry even more than the first time when I rewatched the movie

I watched all 3 of these movies for the first time last night and when Newt died I CRIED. It does seem like Newt really loved Thomas. And according to the books it seemed like Thomas at least cared a lot for Newt, if he wasn't in love with him too. Now I'm just wondering how his feelings for Teresa came into all this, but maybe I just have to read the books to understand. They do make a really cute couple (Thomas and Newt I mean, I came to hate Teresa by the end of the movies)
