      Don't think Haase was trying to tamper with the mark. He was actually being a good sport and saying it was in and that it should be replayed. His opponent asked if it was out, he went to check and he wiped away the mark. The umpire actually punished him for good sportsmanship and honestly his opponent was an a-hole as well for claiming the point when your opponent is actually being a good sport. So bad umpire and Basic is a bad sportman

    Can someone explain why Monfils was lecturing Sonego about respect?

    • @GregLohr

      I believe it's because they're not supposed to call the physio for cramping.

    • @bestbetta
      @bestbetta Před 3 lety +2

      The way the video is edited, you can’t tell this but basically Sonego thought he was cramping, the physio came, Sonego seemed like he was out of it for maybe 2 games and then started moving and playing better tennis than he did before the medical timeout. Monfils saw it as gamesmanship and just wanted to make his voice heard.

      @nicolashermosomartinez670 Před 3 lety +27

      @@GregLohr is right! Calling the physio during a game is just allowed for really bad issues. Cramping can only be taped during the turnover. Monfils just told Sonego that he should not play with those tricks and should keep the respect to the opponent.

      I'm pretty sure people are completely misjudging a simply language mistake by Monfils confusing respect with self-respect/confidence. It just doesn't line up with the other things Monfils was saying since he was clearly being very positive to him so theres no point in lecturing him.

      @@achnix3167 actually it's a dirty practice some players carry out to break the opponent's rhythm as well as to take a break as you said. Physio isn't allowed for cramping so he deceived both the umpire and Monfils. Sonego was 3-4 40-15 probably wanted to consolidate the comeback saw the chance and didn't waste it. Monfils as an experienced player tried not to cause an incident and let him know in a roundabout way. Tbf the rest of the match was quite good with Sonego playing at a high level as Gael says
