  • Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes intramuscular injection of the vastus lateralis muscle in the thigh.
    Vastus Lateralis Intramuscular Injection
The vastus lateralis muscle is a common site for intramuscular injection. To inject, first locate the greater trochanter of the femur. The top border of the vastus lateralis muscle can be found a hand width below the groin. The bottom border of the vasus lateralis muscle is found a hand above the knee. The side borders are from the mid anterior thigh to the mid lateral thigh. Squeezing the muscle before injection increases the thickness and depth of the muscle and avoids nerve injuries. Make sure you do not advance the needle deep to touch the bone. Aspirate before you inject.

I’m helping my son with his IM injections and have watched 5 videos on this site. This one is the best by far. No music (thank goodness), clear instructions and the only video to mention the squeezing of the thigh muscle. Thank you.

    • @tiffsaver
      @tiffsaver Před 4 lety +14

DON'T "squeeze" the thigh muscle, simply push DOWN on the injection site, then spread the area taut with your fingers and inject the very tip of the needle, then immediately release your fingers from the site and fully inject the needle all the way. The only pain come from the initial insertion of the needle, but absolutely no pain should be felt after that. Only the skin is capable of feeling pain, unless you hit a vein. Once I mastered this technique, I never experienced pain or discomfort again. Check the other videos on this channel to find the technique I just described, or just contact me here. I'd like to help if I can.
Btw, if your son is also using HCG to counterbalance the negative side effects of the testosterone, THEN you should use the "squeeze" technique. The perfect place for this is in the looser skin of the belly area. Just squeeze, and insert.

I was giving myself butt injections for years as most of the leg injection videos just tell you to inject right at the top of the leg and it hurts a ton. This is the best video I’ve found that explains the placement and reasoning for injecting into the Vastus Lateralis muscle and since finding it I’ve had zero pain and much better success in not hitting veins. Thanks much!
Edit: A year later and I still come to this video to re-review its contents. The only issue I have is the squeezing of the muscle to make it more compact and avoid the nerve. I never seem to get that part right and just end up grabbing skin.

good video to the point - literally! was using the gels but they were not very effective on my levels and hard to get approved by the ins. company as it is a controlled subtense... just injected my 3rd T in the leg. use 25G needle. once every two weeks. no issue or pain (except for an expected pinch when the needle penetrates).
no side effects or bleeding, so I don't use a bandage. I will try pinching the muscle as described as it makes sense, and the needle is 1.5" but too long.
When the nurse was explaining to me how to use this method, she asked me if I want to do it myself, I said sure, that is why I came, she said she has seen guys faint, I assured her that with my 3y middle east military experience and almost 2 feet of scares, I am not going to drop on her. I did it myself and it was fine.
Besides, no pain, no gain. PS. someone said that coughing right before the injection helps to distract.

The 21g was 1" 1/2 and I was always hiting something vein or nerves it was rough the first 4 shots but the smaller needle and experience and watching videos I am getting better. The only time I ever experience pain, is when I'm using the 23g. Those needles are just too wide. But I refuse to throw them out.

I've been rotating thighs, every week, for about 12 years now. As time goes on, we are making scarring issues, at least that's what the doctors all tell me. I don't inject in exactly the same place, on each thigh, so I'm hoping that'll help in the long run, because this weekly injection is for life.
Based on what the doctors have told me is, over time, the injections may become more painful, from scaring, which mine have, but as long as I use the higher gauge needle (25g), it's much less painful, compared to when I use a 23g needle.
I often think to myself, "and I have to do this every week until I die?!??"
I feel for you as well.

I hit accidentally a vein a few times, too. When you do, it really hurts, and blood immediately enters the syringe, giving you an immediate warning that you injected the wrong spot. If you see this happen, immediately pull out the needle, then just try another area. DON'T INJECT ANYTHING IF YOU SHOULD SEE BLOOD ENTERING THE SYRINGE.

I hope I didn’t mess up, I’ve been injecting it in my buttocks like the doc told me to do but that’s very hard doing that by myself of course so I came across the thigh tutorials. I injected mine in the dead center of my leg right in the middle of the knees and hip but it hurts so bad That when I put the slight pressure on it, the pain slowly grows and starts hurting pretty rapidly where I can’t hold my finger tip on it anymore with even the slightest of pressure when I was rubbing the muscle to spread the testosterone out faster like my doc said.

I always use the quads because you can accurately place the needle that way, which you are limited to when injecting your glutes. But you should NEVER inject directly in the center of your quads, only the upper, outer quadrants!! Check out the other injection videos on this channel to see the actual diagrams. Placement is everything. You should feel no pain at all, especially when using a 23-25-gauge needle. Good luck.
