Jamaican Food 101 with Sean Paul and Chi Ching Ching | Curry Shop

- čas přidán 6. 09. 2024
- Sean Paul is a dancehall icon and certified hit maker. But he’s also a ride-or-die obsessive when it comes to the food of his native Jamaica. Anxious to learn more about Jamaican curry goat, Horsepowar follows Sean and his latest Dutty Rock signee, Chi Ching Ching, to Glady’s Jerk Center in Brooklyn-a new-school home for Caribbean cuisine on Rogers Avenue. From a crash-course in patois, to a heated beef-patty taste test, Sean and Chi Ching school Horsepowar on all things Jamaican before diving into a couple heaping bowl of curry goat and oxtail. The Curry Shop heads to the Caribbean this week, and who better to breakdown the dos and don’ts than two generations of dancehall legends? Jeesam peas!

Curry goat or curry oxtail?
oxtail
I'd be down for some oxtail
Curry goat
oxtail stew
Curry Oxtail!!
Dude Sean Paul knows a lot about food, give him his own show we’re he goes around Jamaica showing you the real shit
I would pay to see that.
I wus tinkin da same.
Lol, yup
In Jamaica you aren't truly a man until you can cook. Your friends will laugh at you and most girls don't want you.
When she said jesam peas after duppy I was cracking up 😂😭. Perfect use of the slang!
As a Jamaican, I found this to be waaayyyyy better than the time you guys had that guy from New York who didn’t know that you can make patties with more than just beef (ex curry chicken, callaloo and beef w cheese). Sean Paul is the real deal! Big up yahself!
Lol Oh no he knew that. He was projecting his NYC narrow-mindedness. Put down everything that doesn't line up w/ your beliefs or perceptions. In his case, he never had a chicken, cheese, nor a spinach/ callaloo patty, so the only patty he feels is the real one is the one with beef
He knew about them, he just claimed they weren't "pure". I don't know what that nonsense was about. I feel like they hyped him up to say that so his portion of the video would be a contrast to the rest.
Glad you liked it. :)
Aww I love stew peas patties!
She's a hell of a presenter, freaking natural. One of the best side shows y'all ever put out.

She's good. Relatively natural and relaxed in front of the camera. There's room for improvement but she's got talent. Also didn't notice any lisp.
Thank you for giving voice to the Caribbean.
I’m from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and I know there’s always a beef between us and Jamaica 🇯🇲...

SO glad y'all are doing curry from other countries, especially west indies countries which derive a lot of their culinary inspiration from india. west indies curry (and food in general) doesn't get nearly the attention that it deserves, so this was a refreshing surprise
India China Europe and Africa. Mostly India and Africa. But our Church beer food is god damn amazing.
Tastees and Juici makes the best patties in the world. Tell di worl dat!
manifergi tansy's and tinnels in Toronto man

I'll forever have a crush on sean paul no matter how old i get lol
Can relate 😂
Same that was my childhood
As a Jamaican, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Real Jamaicans not expats that haven't been home since they were kids.Guest speaking the way I do, the slangs were on point. The food did stay good. Host was amazing. Big up FWF, Ching and Sean Paul fi this, cause everytime i watch these lil segments on my beloved culture I ALWAYS roll my eyes and kiss my teeth, but this was great A++ 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 🇯🇲
Never heard Sean Paul talk. .he got such a strong Jamaican accent
MercyFlex DeLuise Mazmida Remember most Jamaicans speak two even three ways some time.
Sean Paul full a sense man. Hit the nail on the head when she ask the question bout why white people nuh cant cook or is afraid to eat oxtail and goat I was screaming slavery at my phone lol. Nuff respect ✊
Yes the poor made cheap food good. Now you dont want to buy oxtails because they are tripping with the price
I can't support not marinating the meat. Just throwing the spices in the pot, THEN adding the meat? No dawg, ah nuh so it guh.
Who does that?!,?
Bwoy I used to have the same view, but after trying it that way I realized that the curry had a better flavour.
That’s why him curry goat look so 💀
idratherbeanonymous I always think about that too: my meat have to seasoned deep down b4 cooking too.
Don't think u would find a jamaican cooking goat like that, the man cooking is not Jamaican. He is from the Caribbean though, but his accent isn't jamaican suh im definitely not from yaad. First time I saw someone cooking goat like that, she was from St Lucia. Plus it's not the norm to cook goat in coconut milk in Jamaica, its done here, but mostly in restaurants
If its Jamaican, I watch it 🇯🇲
For me, my favourite Jamaican dishes, in descending order, are, (1) Cowfoot & Broad Beans (w Rice & Peas), (2) A Tie - Curry Goat & Roti/Stew Peas w Pig's Tail & Beef (w White Rice), (3) Oxtail & Broad Beans (w Rice & Peas); (4) Jerk Chicken (w hot hard dough bread or festival); (5) Ackee & Salt fish (w Roast Yellow Heart Breadfruit, Boiled Dumplings, Green Bananas & Yellow Yam); (6) Mackerel Rundown (w same food served w Ackee & Salt Fish); (7) Mannish Water aka Goat Head Soup; (8) Red Peas Soup (made w Pig's Tail & Salt Beef); (9) Stewed Kidney (w Green Bananas, Johnny Cakes, Boiled Dumplings & Yellow Yam), (10) Salt Fish (w Johnny Cakes aka Fried Dumplings)...Note : All above dishes, preferably, should be served with Avacados and Ripe plantains.
That may be the best looking jerk chicken I’ve ever seen
Sean Paul is amazing. Love that guy.
JEESAM PEAAAAAAAAS!!!

KING & QUEEN are Jamaican food is spicy? I g?I Saw Jamaican food like Indonesian food
Send fi mi and I will cook for you everyday.
I love my culture; first gen Jamerican here. I grew up on all of these, my parents are yaadies to di bone lol
The richness of our soil has no words; everything I had at my grandmama's house in Kingston tasted betta. My auntie's roasted tamarind chicken was like nothing I'd ever tasted. My uncle Fatta had a farm at the house with chickens, pigs, goats, ackee trees, guinep trees, banana trees, and thyme. Tending to the farm when I visited was one of my most fun and humbling experiences in my childhood.
I have a lot of history to learn so this was informative for me. I always love when people respectfully embrace us. We have a colorful background and the world needs to know why we likkle but we tallawah
Out of one, many and wi deh yah
AHA! I fucking knew Scotch Bonnet was a Habanero, I just could never put my finger on it. Jamaican cuisine is underrated, I have a Brown Eagle by me which does decent Cari food but the best place is down in Brixton (London)
It's not really the same as a Habanero. They're both a variety of the Capsicum Chinense chili, but the Hab was domesticated and cultivated in Mexico and South America, whereas the Scotch Bonnet was cultivated in the Caribbean. They taste different too. The Scotch Bonnet tends to be fruitier and sweeter and often hotter than the Hab (on average.)
gingergreek scotch bonnet has a buttery, creamy element like a delicious kulfi that habanero can only hope to get near
Brown eagle is 👎🏽🤢
I don't know about buttery and creamy but the true scotch bonnet's fruitiness is definitely smoother, richer and more savoury than any habanero. So much of what gets sold as bonnets in the UK and US are mutts not worthy of either name and they tend to taste rather closer to a red hab than the more distinctive jamaican pepper.
Thayungflorist HAHAHA I know but it's all I got near me, but my one ain't bad tbh.
Ayyyeeee proud Jamaican right here!
Favorite Sean Paul song of all time?
stop posting these, ur cringe

All when they talking about the care of the goats at 1:42 , knew exactly what they were talking about. 100% accurate and made me enjoy this sooo much more
She's an amazing interviewer
All of this looks sooooooooooooo good
Oxtail is such a wonderful comfort food.
There needs to be an hour long video showcasing the entire country of Jamaica and its culture, especially it’s food.
Correction, Sean Paul patois is not broken english, it is a dialect of english and various other languages, including west african, irish, spanish and french mix together.
It's broken English.
shinyjewelsz it's actually not, Jamaican English is broken English. Patois is not. It is a mix of several languages including twi. Patois that is spoken back home and spoken properly isn't broken English at all 😂
I liked her as a host. She asked good questions and went with the flow. Should’ve eat some esco fish too
I don't like that the chef didn't marinate the meat first but big up still fi rep wi country 🇯🇲🇯🇲
Love how cool she is and naturally accepting of culture dishes plus she’s a great interviewer, personality on fleek and very knowledgeable so I liked and subscribed of course.
Pimpishone She is Indian American so would be more at home with Jamaican food.

DAZZLER DAZ why do ya’ll have to comment on her body fs just comment on her presenting skills. She’s wearing a baggy top she clearly doesn’t want to be seen in that way, respect women.

Jasleen, you're nailing this hosting business! Can't wait to see more. You're a natural.
LOVE THIS dutty paul is my everything
Great video, great host, def left me wanting to try Jamaican food!
I really enjoyed this episode and I learnt few things about ancient culture. Thank you very much.
The beef patty is a staple in NYC as well (especially the Bronx). I grew up eating that and didn't know it was legit Jamaican until I hit high school. Bronx bodega order: City Pop, Chopped Cheese, and a Beef Patty. A honey bun too if you're into sweets, but I don't fuck with that stuff anymore.
what's city pop?
Really cheap soda brand (makes Cola, Grape, Orange, Cream Soda, and Red Pop). Back in the early 2000s it was 99 cents for a 24oz fat bottle. If you were really penny pinching, you could go with a quarter-water for 25 cents.
Every Sunday when I was young. I would be at my second home eating Jamaican dishes 😋😘
This girl is doing a great job!
Bring this show back
He made the curry goat in a strange way. Great vid tho, Sean paul really knows his stuff
Lol.habe to laugh when Shawn Paul tell her about the Dippy and she say Jeezam pea
You guys better come up with season 2 for this show!
Im watching all these Sean Paul videos man this guy will forever be the coolest!
Why when peole meet Jamaicn people they have to ask them about weed.😡 Putting a negative stigma on Jamaicans. The majority of Jamaicans do not smoke weed.
@Brian Abisdid In this video they are suppose to be talking about food. There is a bigger picture here. There are many attributes of Jamaica and their people not just music and weed. There are scientist, farmers, and other achievers people who are trying to build the countries image and are doing good things for themselves and the country. Why didn't the presenter ask about that.
Instead of promoting a personal minority activity.
With what is happening in the world with black people we need positive imagery/mentoring for future generations to see so they know there is more to life. We have substance. We are doing good things and lead productive lives.
@Chris 2008 Smoking weed is a stereotype not a cultural behaviour. I don't see other races being asked stereotypical questions when being interviewed on food.
weed isnt negative....
Everybody loves bob Marley. Everywhere I go it’s the same old story. People of all nations they love the Rasta man vibration. Oh bob- Macka B
Lady stop chat. Wha wrong wid weed? Just because white people tell you seh weed bad, you believe it? You sound like a fool. It's western medicine by the way of Big Pharma who put a stigma on weed. They did that with all herbs. The replaced herbs with man made chemicals so that they could patent it. Patent medicine is western medicine. That is what it is. Patent medicine.
Patent drugs are toxic to the body in the longterm. Many in the short term too. Weed is not a bad thing. If you drink, you are putting a way more dangerous substance in your body. If you don't want to smoke, drink a little marihuana tea. It relaxes you. Helps with pain, insomnia, anxiety, helps you to eat if you can't eat, etc, etc. And by the way, the weed in the US is laced with man made chemicals. That kind of weed can make you paranoid, etc. Drink real Ital weed.
Sean Paul makes a great host! Depth in his answers and well educated where the topic goes. Respect
Woaaa, I'm so hungry, i love Jamaican food because like an Indonesian food, it's spicy, very tasty, and very important,, i like curry
Oh Sean Paul 💗💗💗..... the food looks soooo good! The young lady reporting you’re a 💎 enjoyed the vibe n company 👏👏
I love this guy I was waiting for him to come on the show
I haven’t seen what Sean Paul looked like in a long time. I didn’t even know that was him from the thumbnail at first. West Indian curries are awesome though. Even though Indian (the OG curry makers), Thai, and many other kinds are tasty too.
I'm from Idaho so I've never actually seen Jamaica food. ngl I really wanna try it now
Zotz Crew you may have to head further south to get some authentic jamacian food

Zotz Crew yeah, they’re good. The ones that I usually eat.
Respect Sean, smart answers boss.... Respect.
Curry goat nuh cook with coconut milk that Mi a tell unu
I love seeing different cultures versions of curry, it gives a good impression of the taste profile of a culture and the personality of the person making it
