I practiced kung fu when I was a teenager and sometimes I would practice before going to school in the morning in the snow, but until now I have breathing problems and my lungs are badly damaged. You shouldn't do anything without a lot of training and practice.

As an American who grapples, the Dagestani MMA guys have the utmost respect of anyone who understands fighting. They are on another level. The discipline. I know the things I do (drink, etc) have kept me from greatness and they don’t need all the vices.

This is common in the region not just Dagistan but most parts of Russia do this. It's very healthy and boost the immune system.
Ice training wakes up every killer instinct in the body and in the mind. It makes you think faster and clearer the rest of the day as well and heals the previous days workout. The body will naturally overcome things it normally wouldn't if you do this. A lot of ppl who try ice training become addicted to it because of how it makes you feel the rest of the day.

He probably got overheated in there and needed to cool off. It's easy to do and feels great after you're in a sauna or hot tub for a long period of time Nothing better than saunas and hot tubs in the winter for that very reason.
In highschool we'd make snow angels in just our swim shorts after an outdoor hot tub session lol
