My dad's hometown is the next town over from Monowi. His town is a population around 225. This is a large farming community. Almost all towns within an hour of Monowi have strong farm exposures. This is also a big fishing and hunting area, particularly for deer, turkey and pheasants. For all seasons, people come up to this secluded area for hunting. This is what keeps Elsie and the Monowi Tavern running. I haven't been there for a few years, but I know if I need a $3 beer and a $6 meal, I know exactly where I'm eating.
