Jeff Danna is an award-winning Canadian film composer. Born in Burlington, Ontario, to a musical family active in local theatre and church choir, Danna was a reluctant young piano student but found solace in an electric guitar left behind at his home by a friend. Unknowingly following in the path of three generations of Winnipeg mandolin players, progress came quickly. He began playing professionally at the age of 15 until a hand injury brought his performance career to a halt at 22. He has composed or co-composed scores for a wide range of films and television, including The Boondock Saints (1999), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Silent Hill (2006), The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009), The Good Dinosaur (2015), Storks (2016), The Breadwinner (2017), The Addams Family (2019), Onward (2020), Guillermo Del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia (2020), Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon (2022) and Julia (2022). His older brother, composer Mychael Danna, is a frequent collaborator, and the two have received Emmy nominations for their work on Camelot (2011), Tyrant (2014-2016), and Alias Grace (2017). Additionally, Danna has been nominated for six Annie Awards, won five BMI Film & TV Awards, a Gemini Award, a Genie award, two Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and 17 SOCAN Awards. - Hudba
Happy St. Patrick's Day 2024 everybody
When my friends were still around (Two to cancer, one to suicide) we would rewatch boondock saints and get all our drinking out of the way during the opening. Now a days, when I hear this, tears to my eyes as I pour out four, and down them one at a time as it plays. Cheers to my friends and to all of you. Treasure who you have for as long as you have them. Never let that fire die.

Hugs!!
Good advice my friend. Had 2 friends die to suicide and 1 to an overdose. Did not see it coming...
I can feel your pain lad my thoughts and prayers are with them in heaven (-_-)
This song makes me want to join forces with my brother, my best friend and my father in fighting crime and destroying all that which is evil so that which is good may flourish
Good shepherds we shall be ,
For thee my Lord for thee .
Power hath descended forth from thy hand ,
That our feet may swiftly carry out thy command .
So we shall flow a river forth to thee ,
And teeming with Souls shall it ever be .

Greetings from Thessaloniki, Greece ! The first time I heard this song was on TV , late one night in the year 2000 , in the opening credits of The Boondock Saints , and I remember thinking " Maybe I should start listening to this kind of celtic traditional music, it's really good". Today , I can proudly say that I play it on the mandolin along with my two teenage daughters , backing me on guitar and ukulele, and it feels amazing. What a blessing! Thank you so very much for creating this beautiful melody. And I shudder to think what kind of music my daughters would like today if I hadn't turned on the TV that night back in 2000 !!!
wow! Thanks for such an uplifting note. And you and your family play it together , that's fantastic!
You should send me a clip of that sometime , to jeffdanna@charter.net
Celtic Music has wonderful soul , I'm glad I could help you discover it. It's wonderful that that piece of music has turned out to have had such a long life for some people. Thanks for stopping by my channel.

This will undoubtedly forever have a very special place in my heart. Never gets old.
we played this at my grandmother's funeral almost fifteen years ago and I still listen every St. Patrick's day.
Thanks for sharing that ZZ, it's great to know that the work we do goes out into the world and becomes part of peoples lives. Thanks for checking in with my channel , and stay safe !
@@JeffDannaMusic Man! Thanks so much for the response. You guys are insanely talented. I'm humbled, by your response. That really just made my day. And My Grandma's too. I listen to this song only once a year, but on that day I listen 20 times. You're the best Jeff. Stay healthy and safe. Much love.

God...to think I found an unopened copy of Boondock Saints at a thrift store and watch it at least once a month now. The music in general is great, but this is the first song I think of whenever I think about it.
This song makes me cry every damn time. My heart almost explodes with longing for Ireland, absorbing every single sound of this incredible song.
La Crosse, WI here. I first heard this in college around 2001, and it is directly responsible for getting me into playing Irish tunes. Be careful, lads...it's a slippery slope! You start off with Danna in The Boondock Saints, then you're into Dropkick and Flogging, next you're into the legendary Pogues and Chieftains, and soon enough you're down with Christy Moore, Moving Hearts, Saw Doctors, Wolfe Tones, and Planxty!
Love to hear it! Congrats on sticking' it Out .
Love The Wolfe Tones.
When i moved to Ireland that was the first song i played after leaving the plane... Thank you so much.
thanks for letting me know . I'n glad the song is still with you .
How is it there?

God, this song takes me back to third grade when I lived in Texas. My teacher would play this during our quizzes and tests in order for us too concentrate.

I love hearing that . It makes all the sweat of creating so totally worthwhile . Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your story with me !
Celtic music has such a power, such a soul, i remember when i discovered A Celtic Tale: The Legend of Deirdre, I was amazed, as a musician, it added me so much, when i moved to Canada i was so alone, so scared of life, your songs helped me in so many ways, nowadays whenever I feel sad or struggling with something I come back here and everything goes away, thank you so much Jeff & Mychael Danna for this amazing piece!
Also, I'll make my fingerstyle version of some songs of that album and i hope you guys can see it soon, cheers from Brazil & Canada!
Amazing to hear that . Coincidentally , we recorded that album in Los Angeles and Toronto in the summer of 1997. I'm glad you are still here with us . Look forward to that fingerstyle album !

I've discover lastly this song and it's a masterpiece. Full of emotion like if future will be good and this world need this type of song.
First time I heard this song was near the time of my birth, my mother was trying to calm me with music and after twelve failed attempts she played this song and almost after ten seconds past I finally fell asleep; and almost eighteen years later I still listen to this song to sleep easy and peacefully. When I was about to go to highschool I'd always wanted to learn how to play it on the violin and many other songs like this, after looking into the history and meaning of this song thing I'd find a peaceful history I found bloodshed and death but no matter, I still love this song and hopefully have my own cover of this song and others like so. Thanks, and good luck to all.
It's gratifying to hear that this piece has always been with you. I hope it inspires your own creations and talents !
This song has always been a favorite of mine ever since I heard it on Boondock Saints. I have a daughter she’s only 2 months old, nothing would soothe her. I mean nothing, I turned this song on hoping for the best, well…it’s the one! She loves it! An it’s a reason to dance around with her in the living room while it plays. There’s something about this kind of music that I think heals the soul. ♥️ It’s a masterpiece, an often played in this house hold. 🥰
Simply astonishing. So much emotion and history in this song, it makes you feel transported to another place and another time completely. This was a treat for the ears and the soul

A song from the boondock saints
I was looking for this song for about an hour on my old hard drive, I just spontaneously felt nostalgia and an urge to hear it after 21 years, irish music is something else.. Just found out two of You are the original composers, nice to know, all my love to You

Bravo! My girlfriend hums this piece all the time.
like so many before, I first heard this in The Boondock Saints. I immediately fell in love with it. years later, I'm in my childhood home with this playing on my iPod on the hi-fi system, and Mom is inspired by it and makes a painting. she called it "Irish Jig." this song is so beautiful. I've put it in a special 6 star playlist in my music library. thank you, Jeff and Mychael. it's so good and is still amazing all these years later.
Great to hear it , Josh. Glad you are still here listening with us !
@@JeffDannaMusic such an honor to read your response.
This song is my soul
So here it is! After 13 years!!
When I was young, my mom would put some CDs on by the morning, just after waking up. I was 13, maybe 14, and I had just started going after my dreams.
Among many songs, this one was specifically the one which made my heart and soul burst with courage and a deep feeling that everything would be ok. I remember listening to it and feeling the sense of adventure, will and faith that would guide me for so many years, giving me strength and pushing me foward when things felt dark.
So when I was around 15, my mom stopped putting the old CDs on, including the one containing this song, and eventually lost a lot of 'em. Still this song remained within my spirit, and I would search for it endlessly. I would tell friends about it and try using music finder apps, but with no success. Untill now. Untill today.
Suddenly, the whole Unverse seems to make sense once more and we are exactly where we were ment to be. Anything is possible through the cosmic synchronicity.
13 years later I find the one song. 13 years later the song finds me.
I'm grateful.
Really appreciate you letting me know that . That's why I get up in the morning and work the long days on this stuff. The whole 'Celtic Romance' CD that your mom used to play is on this site. Glad you found me!
@@JeffDannaMusic thank you for your fond reply. I'm definetely checking out the whole album. Also thank you for your music and inspiration. It changes peoples lives!🙏🌟

“Shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth Thy hand.
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti”
Used to wakeup daily to this song all throughout high school and college.

Not gonna lie I re-watched the parts of the boondock saints that had the song just to listen to it, it wasn't until a few days ago when I realized it was a real song that I could look up and listen to at anytime, absolutely love this song
We originally wrote it for our album 'A Celtic Romance' - which is here on this channel - as part of it's enclosed storyline. Long story but - it wound up on the film I was scoring shortly after that ,The Saints. And the rest is history ! Thanks for stopping by.

I'm proud to be an Irish-American! 🇮🇪 🇺🇸 🍺 🥔 🍻
Great job on the music. I'm an Ashkenazi Jew from Long Island. I should have no relationship to this kind of music. But all I can tell you is that from my earliest age that I can remember, when I was somehow introduced to bagpipe music, which for reasons I'll never know my Dad liked, I learned to love Irish folk music. Maybe it was listening to the soundtrack in John Wayne films, especially "The Quiet Man." Or watching the St. Patricks parade in Manhattan. Or who knows? But ever since, I've always managed to find an Irish pub and sit in to listen to a set of good musicians passionately playing for an audience and the rest of us clapping and stamping our feet in time. There's something about that fiddle, bodhrán, flute, and tin whistle that just rings with me, let alone the Irish countryside and my love of horses.
I hear ya!
A Celtic Romance: Legend of Liadain and Curithir. Oh, My! What a tale of woe. One of the saddest stories ever...and the one that has rattled around in my head for two decades that cries out to be told anew. Jeff or Mychael, why not pitch this to one of your movie making contacts? Hell, the soundtrack is already here. This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all times, any genre.
